The easiest way to start Cross Stitching is the Loop Start. It's simple and efficient and Jamie "Mr X Stitch" Chalmers is here to show you how!
It's worth noting that the Loop Technique isn't suitable for all cross stitching - if you're using variegated threads, folding the thread to create the loop will mix the colours up - but if you're using a single colour, then this is the simplest technique, and it'll keep your back nice and neat too!

Wow, I have been stitching for almost 20 years and I didn't know this technique. I usually just stitch over the hanging thread in the back, but this is much easier and much more secure! Thank you!!

I love that a guy is teaching this! Most sewing/knitting/embroidery type hobbies are majority women. I'd love to see more men engaging in these activities and more women enjoying carpentry etc.

I am just a beginner, but I have been loving this art for a long time and wanting to begin some day. I am waiting my first embroidery set to come to me from online shop. But I have figured out that I don't know some basic steps, how to use the key etc. In particular, I have been searching how to do this loop method. I have watched several videos, especially of Russian women (known as good at this craft), but haven't got a proper tutorial ANYWHERE. Everything ends in few seconds and she is already working and I, being a beginner, feeling frustrated for not being able to follow up. And then I've found your video, dear Mr.X Stich and caught it finally, God bless you! Thank you very much!!! And P.S. I lick the ends too )))) My best wishes to you!

@DarrelDavis
@DarrelDavis 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks much for this. As a beginner this looks awesome. Stupid question: Does it change the way you end the thread since I now have 4 strands at the end? I’ve been running the needle under other finished stitches.
@MrXStitch
@MrXStitch 5 жыл бұрын
Your wheedle the needle technique for finishing is bang on, but it's worth noting that I recommend using one strand of thread that you'll double over to get a two ply strand to work with. Hope that makes sense! :)
@DarrelDavis
@DarrelDavis 5 жыл бұрын
Mr X Stitch It does make sense. Thanks again.
@christinet2089

Nice technique. But it only works for even number of threads right? Or how does it work if I need 3 threads?
@hannahlynn8028
@hannahlynn8028 5 жыл бұрын
do you still use two strands or only one?
@MrXStitch
@MrXStitch 5 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna say one strand if you want a two ply stitch (two strands on top) but if you wanted a denser looking stitch, you could do two strands, which would become four strands when folded over. A single strand is generally your best bet.
@winningnumbers

How do you stop the needle coming off the thread?? Do I knot it to the needle or just pray I don't keep pulling needle off the thread?? lol
@MrXStitch
@MrXStitch 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah, I press the eye end of the needle against my second finger to "grip" the thread a bit so it doesn't come out too easily. You'll get the hang of it, don't worry. :)

So! Brand new to Xstitch... but I'm struggling to understand what happens straight after the thread goes through the needle. I feel like it's something I'm not seeing right more than tecnique. I think I've watched it around 12 times on that one bit and I can't get it lol 😳
@MrXStitch
@MrXStitch 4 жыл бұрын
On the first stitch, when the needle goes through the fabric you put it through the loop and pull it (not toooo) right. From then on you can just stitch normally. Hope that's what you meant!
