Hello, Happy Holidays to you, WOW the bare minimum, that what I ask & say back in 01/1979 when I started my Owner Company. After I got my 1st load on my 40 ft trailer step-deck spread. I did not have enough chains or straps. Then when the Government pulls you over because you did put on enough strap or chain, & my tarp, was flapping in the wind. But occurs, I knew everything then being young, Nobody could tell me nothing, I knew everything. Boy, was I WRONG? Ever Load is different. better to have too much, than to lose the load, because, I did not have enough, tired down. I am still being taught, & a learning experience. 45 + years. Great video as always bro!! I finally just finished up my 6 month project. Going over the road next week. I hope people interested in their own hotshot business know it can be very expensive getting started. On top of the $60,000 I spent on a new truck and 40’ trailer, I spent another $15,000 on on setting up the company, items needed for the truck and trailer (registrations, taxes, fees, lots of equipment, load boards, ELD, hotspot, iPad, on and on and on), and then $11,000 for my insurance ( I’ve had a clean CDL since 1997). This is kind of a hobby/retirement plan for me, but it can get expensive quick. People also need to have low personal bills (my children are grown and all my house bills are only $1,100 a month), and also know if they like being on the road or not. It’s not for everyone. Just my 2 cents. Thanks as always for taking the time to make these very informative videos! 👍✌️

Great info like always. I'm a few months away from hitting the ground..Got tired of class 8 truck life. I've been eyeing the hotshot industry for a while. What brand of trailer would you, or anyone else in these comments,most recommend if you had to start with a used trailer?
@LoadMizer
@LoadMizer 3 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome man. I’d honestly worry less about the brand and look at the features and tire wear on the trailer. The biggest mistake I made was buying a flat deck. Most definitely get one with flip out ramps, full width. Equipment is a hot commodity and it’s just almost impossible to load with pull out ramps.

What’s your opinion on a 53 foot step deck with a chassis cab, versus a 40 foot gooseneck?
@LoadMizer
@LoadMizer 3 жыл бұрын
You’d definitely be privy to loads specific to step deck and have a lot more space for loads, you’ll be countered by added weight of a step deck. I think it’s a good idea though. That or a 40’ with a deck on neck. It wouldn’t limit you that’s for sure.

@LoadMizer
@LoadMizer 3 жыл бұрын
Food and drink and storage is pretty much determined by how long I plan on going out, but space is limited. So even when I was staying out for weeks at a time I would always pack 2 weeks worth of clothing and weeks worth of food and just restock at Walmart as needed. In my eyes if I have to do laundry, I’ve been out too long lol.

Yoo do you think a 14gn big Tex 25+5 with mega ramps a good non cdl trailer setup? That’s all I can find in IL
@LoadMizer
@LoadMizer 2 жыл бұрын
I personally think 32-36 range is perfect for non cdl. 30 would definitely be starting to get short in the world of flatbed. Like I tell everybody though, I generally ran out of weight before I ran out of room on my 40’ at cdl weight. Other than a few good grouped partials I only really used the full 40’ for single or dual containers and even that was rare because of the fuel impact.

You mentioned long or shortbed trucks,isn't a shorted ideal with a 40' trailer due to ifta regulations?
@LoadMizer
@LoadMizer 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the neck length of your trailer. The closer you can get to 8’ you can hit the 65’ mark. The longer wheelbase is a much smoother ride and if you have the bed on the truck it gives you a lot more room for storage. IFTA doesn’t regulate that though. Each state’s DOT regs determine the overall length of a truck and trailer combination.
