Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it. Indeed, we ask for help not because we are weak but because we want to remain strong 🖖

My boss just had to announce to our whole retail team that our hours are being cut due to recouping for losses made in 2020 due to covid (this was a decision made from her bosses!). And we all knew this was coming either way, but she showed vulnerability and we support her all the more for it. I’m thankful to have a real leader in the workplace

I remember my boss showed her vulnerability two years ago. I don't think that she's weak. It made me feel that I want to support her, fight with her during the time of uncertainty.

Having that *one person* you could call for *candid unbiased feedback* after a meeting, is soooooo key🔑 and unfortunately rare to find. I had one and I can't tell you how much it's helped. Also recording Zoom meetings and replaying it back.

Hey Simon. Part of being raw, vulnerable, authentic, bold... etc. includes the truth. Why can't we tell the cold, hard, freeing, bare bones, uncomfortable truth all the time? Why can't we just let our yes be yes and our no be no? Literally.

Another way to start small is to first ask yourself: "When's the _last_ time I was vulnerable with my (team, dept., company, etc.)?" If you've never been vulnerable with them before, chances are it'll be weird for them, maybe even backfire a little. But it paves the way for more vulnerability to be welcome in the future if they know *why* you're being vulnerable now, and it helps establish that culture of trust.

It works on the family level, too. About 30 years ago, we lost a baby. Our 8-year-old son said he was keeping all his grief inside because his father and I were because that's what we'd been taught to do. That's when we realized that "being strong for him" was a bad idea, so we let him see our vulnerability and let that grieving process be the family thing it really was. He saw our pain being expressed and knew it was okay to express his. He saw us rely on our faith in God to help us process it and knew it could work for him, too. I can't tell you how scary it was to be that vulnerable with our child. The fact that we gathered courage to go against what our parents were telling us was "right" and let our son see our pain and fear along with the reassurance that we could get through it together was powerful for all of us. It brought us all closer to one another as we mourned the loss of his little sister.

On-point, Simon! No matter how much we talk about it, it’s never going to be enough to emphasize the fact that it’s okay to be vulnerable sometimes. It’s most definitely okay to ask for help too! A true mark of strength is the ability to recognize when you need a helping hand.

I have a few people who are interested in helping starting up my New Earth Collaborative, but it doesn't seem cohesive yet. I have a girl who's offered her part time assistance as an executive assistant and she has the skills but she dips in and out, and old like to be vulnerable with her, and I know it sounds weird, but my guides are telling me to ACT AS IF, so, tho I'd like to be vulnerable but I feel conflicted. Maybe the act as if is related to the overall vision, idk ☺️

Vulnerability without empathy and positive thinking in leaders can work in wrong way. Such leaders’ “I don’t know” might leave the team lost and feeling they are left alone - need to figure out way forward themselves. Some other leaders think they are practicing vulnerability and share their challenges and weaknesses as a one-way without paying interest / acknowledging their team members’ personal issues and challenges - and thus, they keep being perceived as selfish and distant

You're not wrong, but how about pointing your thumb instead of your finger? What are *you* going to do to change your situation? Simon would say, "Start with the person to the left of you and the person to the right of you". If change doesn't start *with* you it won't start *for* you. Sometimes that start means giving your best elsewhere, because talent walks. The real talent doesn't have to put up with bs like that. The real talent has other options. Ever wonder how it is that you find yourself surrounded by idiots in a business culture like that? It's because of people pointing fingers. "It's someone else's problem". If you want to be a leader, lead yourself first. Maybe that means leading yourself right out the door. Maybe it means sticking around and standing up for yourself. If you can't stand up for yourself how can you ever stand up for someone else? for your team? for your company? for your family? Leaders don't point fingers.
