👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my KZfaq channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, KZfaq channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

I want to be a guitarist but I found I'm pretty good on bass and the world needs more bass players
@MidlifeRenaissanceMan
@MidlifeRenaissanceMan 5 жыл бұрын
Jason Milller having been a bass player for 30 years, and only in the last 6 jumping on guitar on stage, as opposed to just using it as a writing tool, I found I lost a lot of _control_ over the band. As a bass player I drive the drummer, hold them to the groove and push the pump or swing, or whatever I’m feeling in the song. It’s great when you have a drummer you can _play against_ and who also pushes back. That really brings out the energy in the rhythm section You also control the harmony as you’re the anchor there too. You can reharmonise on the fly playing different notes to the chords the guitarists are playing. Holding the A while the guitars play a D power chord and you get an ASus4 feel which is more unresolved and tense than a straight D chord, meaning later on, when you go to the D chord, there is a greater sense of release. Bass is a seriously underrated instrument. In my current original outfit, I’m playing guitar, but writing on the bass from a bass driven angle. I’m playing guitar as I can’t find a guitarist that will shut up for long enough to let the groove breathe

@@stevenswisher4339 I've been playing bass for years and learned guitar within days. Funny how easy it is to learn one of the insturments after playing the other for a long enough period of time :P I've found that guitar is slightly more finicky at first, but bass always takes more effort to play well.

@@asylumrain don't worry about that. if someone blatantly rereleases your music, that's an easy sue. if they sample it without a license, you might be entitled to some royalties. but if they just use a chord change or a section of a single melody? get used to it, that is pretty much the norm, and every musician does it. you can too, just take an idea and turn it into something completely unrecognizable. you'll have inspired someone else and that is quite valuable, artistically speaking (you don't get payed for that one though). most of your early stuff will suck major ass, by the time someone is going to steal your stuff you might already have a stable fan base.

In 1968 (18 yrs old) I joined the Army for 6yrs as a Bandsman. Military BS was the price I had to pay. After 50yrs of playing Musicals, backing Acts & touring in Horn sections I should be in "retirement"? No, at 75 I'm still playing. It's the most fun you can have standing up. The industry has changed, there are fewer live gigs & technology has changed the scene. You have to adapt to that. Thanks for your video, the advice is spot on for a young players starting today. Is it even worth focusing on being purely 'the guitar guy' anymore? Feels like every man and his pet dog has a guitar and is looking for gigs. I'm thinking of diversifying into keys / bass / vocals, and backing off guitar a little.

Pretzels722 good choice, there is so much you can do with keys and bass. Keep in mind rock music doesn’t need guitar like many people think. Listen to Jumpsuit by twenty one pilots for inspiration, it is completely guitar-free but kills it as a hard-hitting hard rock song.

I want to be a singer & songwriter! I play 2-3 gigs per week right now so I’m successfully avoiding the J word. As a solo artist…. It’s just really rough doing everything alone! I’m good at social media marketing, can sing bvs, am learning sound. Excited to watch your other videos.
