On October 5, 2018 I started my loc journey.
In this video I show you how I installed my microlocs. I will be posting updates about my journey monthly as well as hair style ideas. Make sure you subscribe to keep up with my journey. First off, you did an excellent job. But sis, you are absolutely gorgeous. Your eyes are so big and brown and your skin is flawless! I totally understand you with the price. I wanted to get sister locs and the lady quoted me 800. I was like thank you but I will do my own thing. I can’t not justify spending that much on my hair when that’s literally the cost of all my bills every month lol. Awesome job!

I am in England and was quoted over a thousand, cant justify paying that sort of money. I have grand children . It dont seem right. I started myself took me 3 weeks . Finished yesterday. I am very pleased.

Partrisha Gillett Yes that price was definitely a main reason why I chose not to go with sister locs I just couldn’t see myself paying that much for a hair style but congratulations on finishing yours and doing them on your own! I know they probably look great ! ☺️

I am proud of you. I think it is commonsense that we do our own hair. Who needs to pay $800 to someone to braid/plate our hair? Black people have been braiding our own hair for thousands of years y'all😀

I plan on installing my own during the week of thanksgiving. I had a consultation for sisterlocks and was quoted $1500 for 12in of hair. Yours came out so pretty and is giving me my motivation to do it

Bethany Kemp Yayyy!!! I was quoted the same price but I just thought it’d be silly for me to pay that and for micro locs it would’ve been $1000 so I just saved my coins and did it myself. Which I feel so happy that I did do them myself. Good luck on your journey! ☺️

Beautiful. I started mine with very very small two strand twists. I’ve self retightened with interlock method as my hair grows. I’ve received numerous compliments on my hair of ladies saying “I love your sisterlocks.” Every time I correct them, letting them know that it’s only twists interlocked at roots and not sisterlocks. I started my daughter’s hair in very small braids over two years ago and have been interlocking the roots as it grows.

I haven’t attempted to count mine. As my daughter would say, “it’s like counting the total strands of hair on the head”. Maybe one day I’ll count them.

Thank you for making this video SiStar. I've been contemplating sisterlocks for about 3 years and because my hair is growing longer the price is growing as well. I can't phantom paying over $1500 for a hairstyle! That was the last quote I received almost 6 months ago and at that point I decided to do microlocs instead. I watched this video while researching for a method for my locs and ended up doing the 2strand twist method. That didn’t last maybe because they were to big but I decided on interlock method and came across your video again and now I wanna change it again! Lol love how yours came out🥰

I’m happy I was able to inspire or help you with your decision. I really like the size I chose. I would recommend getting them twisted in the beginning to help the two strand twist lock better but yes have fun on your new lock journey! 🥰💕

Found this on quarantine/stay at home order. I had locs for 16 years, cut them off and been wearing various natural hair styles since. Now I’m really thinking I want to go back to locs. Thanks for posting!

Yes, you are gorgeous. I've been looking for about 6mths for a decent price for microloc and the prices are not my speed lol. I have been looking for some type of tutorial that I wouldn't discourage me and make me feel I just have to settle with paying between 500 and 1000 and I'm so glad I found yours. Thank you hunny. You literally just gave me the confidence to just go ahead and start mine by myself, I’ve been searching and being picky with who I pick to do them lol. Plus that price point and my pocket don’t align 😂😂😂

Yes! The price is ridiculous but if you find someone who can continue the maintenance for you after you do them yourself that’s more realistic considering they will install them with two strand twists or micro braids. And I go every 8 weeks to get them retightened and washed for $100.

@@SincerelyNatashaxo I'm going to follow your lead. I just don't have $700 to give a way. One thing I also realize is they won't be as small to eventually pop. In plus if I don't like them on me I'll be able to take them out. I got 4C hair and went to 2 consultations and had to end up cutting out my tester locks. They was too small and wouldn't comb out. I just pray it come out right. 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

Thank you so much!! I maintain them with interlocking and I use Dr. Bronners Peppermint or Rosehemp soap to wash, rose water and castor oil to moisturize. I have a video up showing you my updated wash routine with all the products I use that you can check out!

I have a question.... did you just go through and pick up the hair that you wanted to twist or did you make small little parts? I’m thinking I can do my 5 year old’s hair myself. I remember when I was lose natural I didn’t make individual parts I just grabbed and twisted but I also knew that I was taking them down. So does the individual parts matter?

Katoasha Smith yes I made individual small parts with a rat tail comb. I did that because I wanted mine to look uniform when they are freshly done and mature but I’ve also seen them done by just taking small sections and they look just as good so I say it all depends on how you want them to look once they mature. Even as a loose natural I made individual parts but it’s definitely not necessary it’s all about personal preference. Show your baby the two different ways and get her opinion I’m sure she can help you make the decision. ☺️

Yes they are just two strand twist except for the very back row which I interlocked like how you install sisterlocks.

Definitely understand the price I didn’t even do them as small as sisterlocks and it took 8 hours so I get it but I just couldn’t pay it and I love my locs either way you’ll decide what’s best and I have more loc videos on my channel if you want to see how they look now at 2 years 💕

Thank you!! 💕 You didn’t miss it. It’s just a 2 strand twist I couldn’t get a good view of me doing it but that’s all I did. And I currently interlock them every 3 months and wash whenever my scalp feels itchy or I feel like I can smell my hair if that makes sense. Spritz with water add oil 2 times a week. That’s pretty much my routine.
