Brother Sergers have a very common problem of making a loud squealing noise. See how to stop and fix the noise by adjusting and tightening the drive belt. My machine is noise free now!!

Hearing the sound for a second would be good but this video is still very useful, thank you.

This video was very helpful, thank you. I fixed mine with a belt that went loose upon shipping and now it works! I bought it @ a amazon auction house site for only 94.00 because the person who orig bought it just sent it back.

THANK YOU! I bought two of them and they told me nothing was wrong with them, they are supposed to make noise but I knew that was not a normal noise. So happy to have found this, I will be fixing today. I fixed my other Brother PE400d that froze up on me last night, feeling like I accomplished something! 😍

Thank you for this helpful video! I was so frustrated when my machine didn’t work correctly out of the box, and hated thinking that I would have to pack it back up, reship it, and wait and hope to get a better one - and this video showed me that I didn’t have to! My belt had slipped right off the gears, so that pressing the pedal didn’t even move the machine parts, and once I’d put it back on, I was able to follow your instructions for tightening it up, too. You saved me a lot of time and trouble!

My 4 year old machine was making a knocking noise, to which I was sure was the sound of it's own doom. Thanks for the information, I checked the belt and it was barely holding on. A slight tighten and it runs like new again. The sharing of your experience with your machine saved me a ton of trouble. Not all of us can be expertly skilled in machinery, like some of the other lunatics like to yell about in the comments. :P

You guys are so brave.. I don't know if I would have been brave enough to open my machine like that. I've saved this for future reference. *fingers crossed I don't need it anytime soon. Thanks for taking the time out to record it.

Would have liked to hear the noise you had so I would know if mine is the same. Also, at the end, the man in your video commented that Brother is zero help, however, you may appreciate knowing that they are the ones I got your link from ;)). Good video, guys!

I'm sorry, you're correct I should have (I thought I had) recorded the noise. Haha that's good to know they share my video. Hope you got your machine working.

@@TheCraftyKraut Hey, Tasha, Yes, I figured out the noise on mine. In my case, it’s a quiet noise at the end after I lift my foot off the peddle. Mine didn’t need the belt tightened, it was perfect. My husband oversaw my analysis and there is a tiny disk at the small gear in the back of the belt that spins freely and according to him, that is exactly what it is supposed to do, but when I tan the machine while open (I know, that’s a no, no). We could hear and see that the sound I have is just that little disk continuing to spin for a second after the gear has stopped. I am hypersensitive to sound, but now that I know what it is and that it can’t be helped, I’ll be ok with it. I appreciate you and people like you that show us his to get in to our machines and troubleshoot! I have made several “professional” adjustments on my multiple Brother 1034d machines (my own little self) through the years thanks to people like you!! Best, Donna

I just got My serger tried once but it's making a cracking noise like something is breaking inside but it works fine it's so annoying.help please!
@TheCraftyKraut8 жыл бұрын
+Helen Grace Kirsch - I would make sure it is threaded correctly and that your needles are straight and not bent, if those are all good, watch this video, it's probably the same problem I was having. You probably just have to tighten the drive belt. Hope that helps.

Hi! I wasn't able to hear the noise your machine was making, maybe I missed a link or something, but my machine is making a noise, a loud sound like a cat with it's tail caught in the door !...LOL. But I appreciate this video, and will have the hubs look at it over the weekend to see if this remedy will take care of that racket it's making. Thanks again !

How long did you own it before the noise? Mine is on the way...now I'm scared. My hands are not able to do such things. Think such a repair is covered by Brother?
@TheCraftyKraut10 жыл бұрын
I only had it for a few days. I think it came like that from the factory. I believe it would have been covered if I would not have waited past the 90 day warranty. ;(

It should be pretty easy to do with the video as a reference. Make sure you pick up your machine by the handle and that should help prevent this problem from happening.

Mine is a 3034d and the drive is very stiff. The two needles doesn't go up and down. What do I do ?
@MrsCiel10 жыл бұрын
The instructions in this video may make the noise go away, but they are WRONG. I appreciate the intent to help others, Crafty Kraut, but you are steering others incorrectly. Please do not tighten the belt, the slowing of the motor is a screaming sign that you are putting too much stress on it! I found the actual service manual online, and it very clearly says the belt should flex 5-6mm with 500 grams of force (this is fairly light pressure - try pushing on a kitchen scale with the tip of your finger to get a feel for it). It is also important to keep the motor level with the oil pan/bottom of the machine. I took off the right, left and back covers, adjusted the motor position per the service manual's guidance, and then oiled all the moving parts I could see/reach (excluding the motor shaft and belt, which should NOT be oiled). This significantly eased the force necessary to turn the handwheel, took the stress off the motor, and completely fixed the noise. My machine hums like new now, and it took less than 15 min.

Could you post a link to the service manual?
@MrsCiel10 жыл бұрын
I found it on a site called Maisie Manuals, but I will warn you that it's one of those sites littered with garbage links, click bait and ads and probably makes its money selling your email address. You have to add the manual to your shopping cart and make an account to get the file. I used an email I keep just for that type of purpose, and I was able to get the file.
@MrsCiel10 жыл бұрын
Tommyknocker45 I can't give a direct link (see my other reply), but if you search for Masie Manual 1034D it should come up as the top result. Just be very careful working your way through the checkout, or you'll find yourself downloading a bunch of garbage.
@gracejones996210 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the hints about where to find the service manual! I got it the same way you did with a junk mail email address and the manual does specify the amount of pressure on the drive belt as you mentioned.

When I started using the first time my serger. The asswhole neighbor upstairs started getting annoyed without right because he is the one that bangs the ceiling for many years, hours and hours, day and night, and daily, and I am just using my serger around 10:00pm. I wonder if I put a felt beneath or towel.
@TheCraftyKraut6 жыл бұрын
Maybe put a non slip silicone mat under it. It should be making so much noise that it bothers a neighbor.

"It goes slower but it doesn't squeak."??? If he tightened the belt so much that it is pulling on the motor enough to slow it down, be prepared to buy a motor REAL SOON. I hope you guys aren't airplane mechanics, like Vince J. Arcuri here on KZfaq.
