I have to say, this helped me a lot with walls that have a lot of imperfections and it makes a lot of sense. You first seal with the paint A. that you want to let through that will blend with the color of the wall. Since that path is sealed, the paint of the wall B. won't be able to go through any seam. Making the line perfect with the cut of the tape. This method is more easier and controlled than the caulking method. The caulking works but I've made more mistakes that way, where with your technique, I haven't gotten any fails.

Get a cup of water and frog tape. Mask off the area and dip 2 fingers in the water and wet the edge of the tape. This activates the glue for a tight seal. Then, remove the tape while the paint is wet. Do not wait for it to dry.

My friend and I were talking about this subject and he mentioned a youtube video. Your idea is brilliant. I'm not sure if this is the video he was talking about, but you nailed it. Your method also solves another issue we were having. Putting that thin layer of paint onto the tape where the wall meets the ceiling keeps the tape from separating from the surface ... it acts like glue to keep it in place. But the "bleed" reduction is the key point. If you came up with that idea on your own, consider yourself a genius.

Hey. I also have textured walls (brick wall that did not have a coat of filler)and have trouble painting them as they have deep pits at multiples different spots which is troublesome when changing color as the paint just does not fill it unless I press down real hard until the paint seeps in. Any tips how to make the painting process easier?

so you paint white over the tape, wait until dry, then you paint the Green over the tape and pull off slowly while still wet?

After you have let the ceiling colored paint dry, do you have to redo the whole wall with the new color? Or just paint along the masking tape?

This is brilliant man. Took a couple times of watching the video before I understood the concept but then it clicked. How long do you let the paint layer on the tape (white in the video) dry before you put the layer on the other wall (green)? My problem seems to be paint peeling when I remove the tape.

You should use a knife to cut along the edge to prevent the overlapping dried paint from flaking/peeling

At my construction company we just cut it in with a brush. It's way faster but it takes a lot of practice. But this is a good idea for people who don't have much painting experience. Takes the skill out of it but still provides good results which is really all that matters

Important question, do u let the 'sealed paint' to dry off first before applying the actual paint ? Or you just paint it over when the 'sealed paint' is still wet ?

I pull the tape of while the paint is still wet. That seems to help prevent the final color from peeling. Just peel it slow...

Hello! I did this technique step-by-step and it worked beautifully in some areas, but in others, the tape took some of my paint off of the wall 😓😓😓 Perhaps I was too heavy-handed in the sections. Any advice on how to fix paint on a wall that has peeled from painter's tape? It's only peeled on the edge where the wall meets the ceiling.

I need your help, i painted my room and did a geometric wall design and theres just paint bleed thru on every line, how do i fix that ???

That should be fixable, but its going to be a process. First, re-tape your lines, taping over the darker color. Next, repaint the lighter color. Third, remove the tape, and once the paint dries re-tape for the darker color by taping over the lighter. Then, paint the tape edge with the lighter color. Even though you will be painting over a portion of the darker color, this will "seal" the tape edge. Once that dries, re-paint the darker color. I hope this make sense...it did in my head anyway while trying to lay it out.

I've never tried caulking for paint lines. I've seen it done, just never tried it myself.

Yeah , I watched my uncle do it as a 30 year painter , mostly drunk running around with his pager or beeper hahaha . Man could he paint , I don't think his lines were as crisp as the tape method but what a great method if you have lots of money to spend on tape lol. I would do the tape method for a project but not for more than that .

I had the paint can that the previous owner left behind, so I just took the paint code on the can to the hardware store and had it matched. If it's some shade of white you could probably get by with just getting something close....maybe...the amount of paint that actually stays behind is minimal, it really just seals the edge of the tape...

@@MoonBuiltGarage Caulking is a skill, just like painting. Your method worked but is very time consuming. You can do the same thing with clear caulking and a fraction of the time.

The results look good. But you should be transparent about it and share that this method will cost more money, take twice as long, and take more work!

I never claimed otherwise, but the added cost isn't that much (some tape and maybe the ceiling paint if you don't have any already), I'm not so sure about you "twice as long" claim since for a large area you could tape, paint the ceiling color, then by the time you work around the room the tape edge may be dry enough to do your cut-in...but yes, it will take a bit more time, and as for more work...yes, a bit, but the results are worth it.... Now, all that being said, I didn't think people needed that explained to them....I think generally people are intelligent enough to recognize that adding steps would also add some cost, time, and work
