Crimper is being used backwards. Indent is on the 'back', the curved part of the tool supports the split area. Soldering - heat up the wire, then flow solder in.

But I have always found it easier with small crimpers to crimp large terminals this way but soldering is even better but can really burn the jacket

Thinking about doing something similar. Those. We’re cold solder joints by the way mr engineer. Lol Heat the wire from bottom and let the wires melt the solder on the top. A little flux would help too.

OMG. Try learning how to solder bro. Put the iron under the wire and let it heat up. Then apply the solder to the hot wire. East peazy. And, you cut the heat shrink to the size to cover the bare wire. You’ll get more than one use out of that length of heat shrink.

Much cleaner install than what the directions suggest. Good job.

On your fuse box, do all the older chevy trucks come with that type of fuse? Like the larger ones that you normally see in car stereo amps? I thought you had to run relays or whatever you call those metal looking fuses..... If they can be swapped out to fuses, I know what I'll be doing to the old probe!

I think you needed more solder.....😂 I wont go into the merits of how you twisted the leads, but you had about 4x the solder needed. 😊 What if the relay, remote or battery fail? The veicles start relay fuse can be used to do this with a simple remote switch. The entire installation also could have been done under the dash, less work than running wires. You're thinking in the right direction. Good job.

Read my note above THAT is NOT the way to solder! Exactly. its much better to target the "START" fuse in the cabin fuse panel by lifting it and inline fusing it to a SPST switch. yeah screw the huge 200 amp remote relays. You'd also wanna place a 0.1ufd capacitor across the output of that relay or they won't last a year because the contacts will weld themselves closed.

Not bad, but a simple hidden switch interrupting the starter solenoid wire or fuel pump ground would be easier.
@leecowell8165
@leecowell8165 10 ай бұрын
Lotta times its not easy to locate the fuel pump leads or access them. Its much better to go after the starter circuits. However I'd target the starter relay not the starter solenoid, you're correct. There's always a starter relay in front of the starter solenoid and THAT'S what you wanna target. He's targeting the "end game". In my Kia Soul the "start" fuse is right there in the fuse panel. Lift that fuse and wire it to an inline and hidden SPST like you're stating a LOT easier and you don't have to access the engine at all. In my Kia you can't even SEE that starter cable hardly much less access it!

According to where on the brake pedal you're a 2-footed driver. The prior owner used the right foot. Usually, a 2-footed driver has problems adjusting to a manual transmission.

i would actually just wire a switch or something similar to the fuel pump relay. Then just wire the switch to a spot where the thieves wouldn't look.

If this devise stays conected all the time wouldnt it drain your batery? What if you dont drive the car for a few days? Would drain the battery?

A reasonable question. I purchased a homelink remote relay with fob and measured the quiescent current for this very reason. I measured 40mA, which shouldn't kill the battery unless it sat for a few weeks maybe.

Soldering skills could use some work, add flux to the wire then heat the wire from one side and add solder from the opposite side.

@SouthSantosCustoms

It doesn’t automatically turn off when the vehicle is turned off. It stays set to whatever you set it on, you have to remember to turn it on and off with the remote, it’s just a switch that cuts the ignition.

The problem here is the quality of the Chinese manufactured switch and key fob units. No comparison to the key fobs supplied by automotive manufacturers.

that's NOT the way to solder! You heat the WIRES NOT the solder! When the clean wire is heated you then apply solder to the WIRE NOT the iron. The solder should "wick" into the wire by continuing to apply solder iron heat to IT, BTW its better to jump the "START" fuse in the cab rather than the heavy wire from the starter solenoid to the battery. And those fobs ain't very reliable... better to mount a hidden SPST somewhere inside the cab. Throw the switch (to its open position) prevents a start by failing to engage the start relay and subsequently the starter solenoid, see?

This guy doesn’t have a clue how to solder a splice. You heat the wire and run the solder on the other end. The solder flows to the heat. Those splices will come apart.
