Thank you Jed, I usually have to spray my mixed paints but they eventually end up drying on me. The process of pouring and mixing paint is a bit difficult for me being a quadriplegic. The crazy thing is I never painted before I lost my hand function. I think the paper and sponge is going to help me greatly.

Getting ready to use acrylic for the first time, have never touched them. Actually it's painting for the first time. I've drawn for years. I experimented many years ago, had all the equipment, and someone came along and stole all my art supplies. Haven't tried since, but I want a medium that can cover some area. I draw with colored ball point ink pens and it takes for ever to do anything large especially large areas with one color. I had oils but acrylic seems simpler, I don't want to start getting hung up on all the oil paints stuff, maybe later. Your videos are what I need, thanks Jed.

For me the Masterson stay wet palette is a God send. However I use a sheet of glass over the sponge so I can more easily clean off the paint I no longer need leaving a fresh area to mix the next color. My MSWP no longer seals a well as it use to so I also place a small sponge on top of the glass before closing it up when done painting.
@KeeperOfTheGoats
@KeeperOfTheGoats 5 ай бұрын
Do you have the glass in-between the paper and the sponge or do you actually just use the glass as a palette? I ask because I'm switching over from using a glass pallete to the MSWP. I haven't used it yet. Just curious about your setup because it might be something I could like

I use paper plates. I use two. The top plate I cut a wash cloth the diameter of the eating surface and glue it the the top plate. I spray the cloth with water and use binder clamps to hold the plates together and put it in the fridge. The bottom plate is disposable. The top plate is not.

I see this is like a year old video so you probably aren’t responding to comments at this time but I would like to talk about keeping your brushes moist while painting with acrylics. I use a product that I dip my brushes into periodically while I’m painting and clean them off with it because just rinsing them in water sometimes isn’t enough. The Farrells have impacted paint and by the end of the day your brush is pretty much ruined if you’re painting outside in the heat of Florida. So this brush cleaner I take with me. Clean my brush off and work the cleanser in well and rinse it really well in the water and then go back to painting with it. I have to keep my brushes reasonably clean as I’m working with them outside. Even inside the house I will go to the sink and clean my brush periodically and then go back and use them some more. Because the acrylic paint dries out on the brush just like it does on the pallet. And you can run through a lot of brushes that way.

I have two of the Masterson Stay Wet palettes. One has a blue cover and one has a red cover and they are the same size. My problem is that the tops have warped and won't close tightly. I have the medium size palette/box and also the little Handy Palette. Both of the lids of the smaller palette boxes fit nice and airtight. Any idea how to remedy this without buying another palette box? Thanks.

my biggest struggle is that I feel like i never have enough paint on my brush. It takes so much to make the canvas not show through. I'm using Merriy primed canvas pad. Is that not a good kind or do I just need to use more paint? I did your intro acrylic series (it was great, thank you!!) and it seems like your paint was covering your canvas more effectively than mine, as I followed.

Im new to acrylics - what are the best colors to start with (for mixing the widest range) when you have a limited budget.
@mssusanmarie
@mssusanmarie Жыл бұрын
Cheryl, the only colors you really ever need are the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, and white. Every other color is made from these colors. Pure black is good to have to, but you can make many shades of "black" with blue and brown. Brown is made via equal parts of the primary colors. Making any color from primaries is very satisfying. Enjoy the process!

So when you use either of those two things, you don’t need to store it in the fridge? How long does each of those last with paints? Thx 😊
@JedDorsey
@JedDorsey 3 жыл бұрын
Good questions. No, you don't need to store it in the fridge. I have a set of paints in the paint box that have been sitting around months and are still usable. Of course, in normal circumstances, you want to use them regularly, but if you do, they will last a long time. On the palette the paint will last for quite a while, too, but the problem there is that the moisture will dilute the consistency of the paint over time and also your paints can get moldy. I usually change my palette paper and paint every week.

the problem many people have is that they want to paint with acrylic paint as if they had oil paint. But that is wrong. With acrylic paint you paint in a different way. A different technique is used. If you want to paint with acrylic paint as if you had oil paints, it is better to use oil paints straight away.

you can buy retarder to prevent to dry acrylic paint fast, but you can buy glycerine or propandiol, both mixed 50/50 is known as fogfluid for fog machines. 5% mixed to your color will retard your color for the next hours or day. the problem is that the color tacks not so good as before on your underground.
