Love the build. Have watched it from the start. Just wondering why you’ve decided to blast rather then dip? Only ask because you’ve gone to so much trouble building and blasting isn’t possible to get everywhere as dipping is. Anyway love your work👍
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert, fair call. I'm coating it a hard wearing polyurethane paint which is an economical option. I never really looked at dipping it to be perfectly honest. Agree it would be better on the inside, the 80 series frame seems to be pretty hard wearing as is, could have been dipped from factory?

Great job Richard, I really like the removable radiator support mount bracket mate, well done. Just a thought, the rear trailing arm front pivot mounts, do you think they may need plating to strengthen the bolt bolt area or not, the metal used just looks a little thin, could be thickened up a bit I thought that's all mate, well done again mate. I'm probably the only one, but... If I had a 40 series, with that dead flat floor pan, I'd have polished hardwood flooring, instead of carpet or vinyl. Some of that waterproof, click together engineered flooring from bunnings, cheap enough to replace every few years. Spotted gum, jarrah maybe a Vic ash. As, I said, I'm probably the only one.

@@DesignedandBuilt Go on, do it...... I'm no timber person, but I don't think steam bending is going to cut it, for a 60 series floor pan. Are you getting the chassis dipped or galvanized or just painted?? It's obvious to me, you do way more research than me, so, I'm wondering what route you're taking with the chassis, so I can copy it, for my next project.
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt 2 жыл бұрын
@@aaronnoyb haha I blasted and painted because it was economical. It's not going to be a daily driven rig so I think it should be fine for my user case. Sadly I think it will spend more days than not garaged....

I was interested in the build up until the point were It became obvious that the vehicles chassis and new body mounts, front grill and radiator support mounts, along with fitment of both front mudguards and engine and gearbox mounts were all fabricated by someone else.....? On top of that a Barra powered built vehicle the same had already been built... ? Next 😂

@@DesignedandBuilt So being your as suggested, a qualified engineer by trade. why is it then? that you decided to mount an engine and gearbox off center to the chassis rails of the vehicle....?
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
To make it fit mate! Sometimes there is no other option and I think you’ll find a lot of production vehicles have off-centre motors as well.
@jamestemple5696
@jamestemple5696 Жыл бұрын
@@DesignedandBuilt So being your an engineer by trade. Did you bother to give any thought at all to reducing, or increasing the amount of material in terms of the length of material supplied to the left and right hand sides of the engine mounts supplied? Instead of off Centering the engine, would it have made more sense to make the left, or right hand side engine mount shorter, or longer to achieve the required center result??
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, there are then inherit problems with the bolt ons clashing. Also if the whole motor is offset, then the COG is more likely to be offset. When it’s crooked it’s probably in a similar spot. Also having it slightly crooked worked much better for my rear tailshaft angle. Again this is not uncommon on production cars. What are your concerns?
