The majority of modern western music uses 8 bar (measure) "phrases". In electronic music you'll typically hear new elements introduced every 8 measures. Of course, this is music so people can break the rules, but to make your track as DJ friendly as possible you don't want anything that doesn't conform to this at the beginning. One or two phrases of drums to allow the beat matching, and then another couple of phrases introducing elements in key to allow to clean mixing, then start the real portion of your track. Nice track!

The Future of DnB seems to be a simple Loop of Drums&Bass. Ive seen so many DJ Sets lately playing on 4Decks not even 1 Minute of any Track. Missing the good old buildups where Drops started arround 1:50.
@modulednb

I like to have a good variation of the two, I’ve got a tune out called harmonies where the intro is like 1:20 long and very intricate, but sometimes you also want something a bit more simple and stripped back like this. Both have their own rightful place. I agree about the djing side of it though it’s annoying when the DJ keeps chopping 10 drops in the space of a couple minutes. It’s all about riding out the mix and blend instead
@PG-wu7zu

Hopefully that fad goes away, I miss 7 minutes tunes with a few drops and breakdowns, most of today's music is hectic. No one let's it roll anymore...
@ThePurpleSnork
@ThePurpleSnork Жыл бұрын
That's how most music is these days. If you look at the top 40 right now a bunch of the songs are under 4 minutes, and sometimes they're way shorter than that. I love a nice long song, so I agree with you. I also think DJs feel compelled to be constantly dropping in a new track otherwise people will think they aren't doing anything special.
@shroomologist

@@PG-wu7zu It probably won't anytime soon. It's a product of formats dictating how tunes should be arranged which has been a thing for the entirety of recorded music. It's easier to get people to sit through a 3-4 minute tune than a 7+ minute tune for obvious reasons so until streaming services disappear (highly unlikely) or the way they operate fundamentally changes this is the way to go if you wan't to maximise your listener base. At least we now have DVS systems and the like that can make looping and beatjumping, the latter being very underrated, pretty much trivial for DJs to make use of. Of course it would be far more interesting to have tunes that roll out with subtle changes than have to resort to these measures but DJs just aren't the primary demographic like they once were. Honestly though I think things will stay the way that they are until technology becomes good enough to break down tunes into individual stems without compromising on quality, giving you the ability to rearrange tunes or tweak elements on the fly. At which point tune structure will be irrelevent as it will be down to the "DJ" to decide how things progress, if you can still call them that at that point lol.

Fuckin hell I got my mic. I died right there bro. So serious before that. But very informative man. Thank you. I also have never been taught this stuff or at least never found it through years of digging the basic explanations of the structure specifically for djing. Thank you.

One of the clearest explanations I've seen, but maybe its also the genre. Dnb producers tend to explain it better I got a creative method that works well before this method to. You can record automations while you play with the knobs of the sounds. So I just record and fuck with everything, split the automated parameters and shift around. Than you'll automatically notice things like that lfo'ing the pitch sounds like an outro (beats) etc (Which you than can set aside to pull inspiration from when arranging with a clean slate in this method)
@modulednb

That’s a great idea, so much to experiment with automation

For your whole track for me the first hats in the build up and break are to piercing. Maybe the idea is to get them through the track it gets mixed in. But maybe they could get a tiny bit more reverb or de ess just for the first ones fading out. The basses are super cool and interesting to listen to 😱 And I like your stereo build too. Not to much not to little 👍🏼

Thanks for the feedback mate, glad to hear you like the track overall but you’re defo right about the intro hats! An oversight on my part but we live and we learn I will add though I finished this tune back in summer of 2022, a long time ago now and I’ve improved massively since. Some of the tunes I’ve got coming out this year will blow your head off 😆

good stuff, nice tune too. I'm old as fuck and have been listening to jungle + dnb since the beginning - I do like tunes like this but I feel like the big build ups are a bit bait and take away from the power of the drop. always prefer a bar of silence or just bring the bass in to a rolling break like piper. anyway I don't really have a point, just felt like sharing that cos I know you will read this :)

where do you get your samples from?
@modulednb

Variety of different places mate, for this tune the drums were from a basstripper pack on bytheproducer, but i also sometimes use samples from patreons, sometimes from samplegenie, but i also sometimes make my own. All the drums in my classical music ep were homemade
