Oh wow! I’m so glad I found you!! This is a fantastic video and exactly the info I needed to hear… I was always big on the desire to learn and become a better artist, but then had no clue where to start or how to put a plan together to teach myself. (You don’t know what you don’t know… 🤷🏻‍♀️) Thanks to you I now have a game plan!! You are brilliant! ❤ Thank you!

Aww thanks so much. I was the same when trying to figure out how to actually do some focused learning on improving my art skills! I'm actually going to be doing a longer video on this one as I've been working through my own curriculum and refined it/learnt from doing it!. It will be more in depth but I'm going to try to keep it simple and actually doable so other people can do the same if they want to with their own goals/learning. 🩷

I really enjoy your personality and this is a huge synchronicity because I have this very morning been trying to figure this stuff out. I started using youtube videos based on the pomodoro method of 50 minutes work and ten minutes break, they have them like with a Hogwarts theme, or LOTR. Which, I know it might be slightly pathetic that I need that but I do. It’s like being in highschool with classes. To then the thought…. What should my classes be? and here you are!
@louisecreatesart
@louisecreatesart Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment. It's really hard knowing how much personality to put into videos! Glad you found the vid helpful and hope it gave you some idea on how to pick what your classes should be! Pomodoro method sounds really handy! Honestly my life naturally is set up to be compatible with the pomodoro method as I basically have my sons nap time (1.5hrs) and ~2hrs before bed to focus on creativity! So would very well have a short break in-between two chunks of 'study".

Also there is nothing pathetic about Harry Potter or LOTR. They are my go to chill out films. Same with the hobbit! Or even the jurassic parks for me as well if I'm feeling old school. Easy watching!

Hi Louise! I’m a 16 yr old self taught artist from India. What a brilliant video and really amazingly explained by you! Thank you so much for making the art curriculum so easy for me. 👏🏼 I just had a question that how much time shall we give per unit?
@louisecreatesart
@louisecreatesart 11 ай бұрын
Hi lovely, so glad you found it helpful! I didn't set myself a Time for each unit as I think if you don't 'achieve it' in the time frame it can make you feel demotivated. I think the most important thing is just to stick to working though each of your topics step by step in that unit. As long as your moving forward, learning and practicing the time isn't so important. If you really want a time frame it will depend on how much time you have to dedicate to it. Very personal to you. I personally only have 2 hours in the evening or naptimes for my kids so it might take me 2 months to do something you might have time to do in 2 weeks. Some of your topics will also take longer and be more detailed etc, for example my unit one the drawabox lessons took me 2 months whereas the life drawing challenge is only 10 days that I can spread over probably 3 weeks. So honestly setting yourself a timeframe might be not be helpful. Id set long term time frames instead. For example ive said id like to do my first 3 units within 2 years (but ill probably do it in 1 year!) So im making sure i have a realistic time frame that wont leave me feeling dissapointed if i dont meet it. Hope that helps 🩷 let me know how you get on 😊

@@louisecreatesart WOW! That’s just so amazing. You’ve really taught me how to stay disciplined and have inspired me in so many ways!! I’m so happy that you took your precious time to answer my question in such a detailed way. I’m surely going to follow what you explained and will make sure to not time bound my goals. (And if I do, I’ll come and read your response again😁) Thank you so very much for the guidance. 🤍

wonderful tips and resources here (drawabox and LLD are amazing resources!) i'm also a self-taught artist myself and i quite like a more structured approach to my learning as well but not too rigid as that often leads me to burn out or boredom. i just end up making broader plans of action and carry them out over time. i do end up jumping around a bit but it works for me and i've seen progress so i'm fine with it. sprinkling in personal or experimental projects along with my learning helps me out a lot since it helps to bring your skills together to see where you've grown and still need work. i think i may try to create more "clean" versions of my learning "programs" (makes what i'm doing sound more fun ^^) after watching this video. it helps to know where you're going so you don't feel lost or like you're not getting anywhere :) great stuff!

This helps me sooo much thankyou. Just one question, how do you suggest working through the 3 Units? Is it better to work through unit 1 until you 'finish' it, or keep going back and forth between the units every week/month or so? Xxxx❤
@louisecreatesart
@louisecreatesart 5 ай бұрын
Glad you found it helpful! I do one unit at a time but if your finding you don't want to do part of it and it's blocking your progress just move that part down to the next unit. Feel free to move stuff around if you feel like it. It's a tool for you, you make the rules, see what works for you. I've moved stuff between units a few times to keep myself motivated and progressing.

Love life drawing youtube channel is a great resource, they also have a short challenge which is useful. I like the loomis books on drawing the figure 'figure drawing for all its worth' Honestly the best thing for me has been going to weekly life drawing sessions (2 hour sessions) which has really made me stick to it and practice even at times when I didnt feel motivated.

How'd you handle the 50% rule?
@louisecreatesart
@louisecreatesart 6 ай бұрын
I think I do more than 50% as just for fun and for me most of the time! Some of it is still practice type stuff but I'm not focused on trying to improve anything specific if that makes sense. I think the 50/50 is important! By doing your own stuff your still putting what you've learnt into practice but just in a low pressure way. Keeps it fun as well!
