Hello world it’s me ksy elf and I’m here to take you to the Imperial Academy of Arts! Take my hand and I'll show you how wonderful studying can be! You will come with us on some of our lectures and art classes, I’ll show you how we make canvases with our own hands in a special workshop in the basement of the academy and then use them for our paintings! This place is insane and i have so much to show you !!!!
my Boosty blog (same as patreon): boosty.to/ksy_elf/donate
I have here blog with a bunch of useful information about admission to the Academy and some painting and drawing technology texts! NEW post about HUMAN FIGURE DRAWING with detailed explanation and photo examples is already available here!
Here you can also support my channel if you want and donate a dollar for brushes/paints/paper etc (payment is only available in ₽ so please check the dollar rate before donating)
I had a lot of questions from you guys on how to apply to the academy if you foreigner, and in case you interested I write about it sometimes on my boosty page, so if you wanna find answers and other useful information about admission like what you need to admit, how your portfolio shoud look like, a lot of examples of artworks for exams - just come and check anytime)

When I studied at an art school in France, I kept asking about academic training in painting because our focus was so much on conceptual, my only teacher trained traditionally told me that I would need to go the “east” to learn them. I thought it was a shame, because we couldn’t produce works we could see at the Louvre that was so close by. Kudos to your school for keeping tradition alive. I wish I knew about your school earlier.

Exactly. The same hapenned in Brazil some decades ago. There is no place to learn to draw over here. But I think in Firenze Fine Arts School is still possible. Unfortunately, at my age, the only possibility is a free studio _ in France , Italy...

@@antoniocarlosrodriguescamp1497 actually there is currently a revival of traditional training in painting (and drawing). I am in the US now and see it happening here too. Look up ARC (Art Renewal Center) they list all the atelier like schools in the world, it’s not only in Florence, there too it’s almost gone, there is the Angel academy or Florence academy but still it’s not all. I am currently starting from scratch after graduating more than 15 years ago, it’s never too late!

It ssems to be the same in all of western and central europe. A couple of years ago, there were still some art schools which stood out among this homogenous mass, but even those seem to have vanished - your art teacher surely knew what he was talking about! I think that it is fairly understandable, though, of course, lamentable. Here, to me, politics seem to matter a lot, because in some sense they decide about the nature of education for the next generations of artists. If the people in charge are unable to see the value of tradition and are unwilling to *conserve* its values (and this is in my eyes often a political problem more than an aesthetic one), then individual artists and individual ongoing artists can value tradition and reality all the like, they won't be able to find proper education which values what their leaders do not value. "Multiculturalism" is always one sided. Let's face it: conceptual art is the art form of the ruling class, it is the art form of leftists and liberals. No one who values tradition will value a can of excrements in a museum or a signed urinal. Beauty matters, and the desire for it is a basic human desire. The forced popularization of conceptual art is just another political programm, which is just as utopian as many others, and just as much in conflict with basic facts about human nature as other such programs.

Hi, I'm French and since I was a child I wanted to learn traditional fine arts but the only thing teachers were teaching at school in France was modern art. Since the advent of impressionism and modern art, traditional fine arts have been stopped from being taught in France. It's such a shame. I was feeling so frustrated and, later on, so sad about this because it was everything I loved, and in despair to learn. Not so long ago, I learned that we had the Bargue-Gérôme Drawing Course, which is a method created by two French artists. Fortunately, you can find a complete reprint of this famous, late nineteenth-century drawing course. The Drawing Course consists of three sections. The first consists of plates drawn after casts, usually of antique examples. Different parts of the body are studied in order of difficulty until full figures are presented. The second section pays homage to the Western school of painting with lithographs after exemplary drawings by Renaissance and modern masters. The third part contains almost sixty académies or drawings after nude male models, all original inventions by Bargue, the lithographer. With great care, the student is introduced to continually more difficult problems in the close observing and recording of nature.

@@ekaterinaobraztsova4631 I'm pretty sure whoever wrote this meant a war between Russia and the US and Europe, because Russia is not fighting against Ukraine. Ukraine is just a place where the future of the world is being decided: whether the world will forever be American or multipolar, as Russia wants it to be. That's why I asked him/her: is he/she Russian, American or European.

Flea markets are a good source for still life objects. As Cezanne noted "still life does not move", and as I will tell you (who paints out of doors) winter is long, and you need something to hone your observational skills. Attending to the archival quality of your work is very professional. However, work place health and safety is an important science. Manganese Blue can be absorbed through the skin and poison you. A lifetime of small poisonings can lead to hardships in old age. This is something you might implore your university to look into. My College completely neglected the issue.

Beware of art academies - I have first-hand knowledge of the dangers of studying under a rigid 'traditional' programme. The Old Masters were contemporary artists of their own times, and they were often innovators despite the scarcity of possible subjects and techniques. They had no other option than training in a workshop but most of them would not attend an art academy today.

While I fully support traditional methods, materials, and goals, --- I feel that mediocrity exists just as fully at the academies as it does at more typical modern art schools. I think all the basics of preparing canvas, drawing, color mixing , grades of paint... should be taught throughout elementary and HS. Then college years can be focused on greater in depth painting. Throughout most of the U.S., art teaching in early education is extremely lame. It leaves the students already way behind while starting college art lessons. So not much gets done throughout college and they end up either taking private lessons or struggle for many years learning on their own. With exceptions of coarse. It is really sad that a country so wealthy and so many more assets than most, fails in supporting the arts. It's the old thinking of creating students o supply the work force so the wealthy can become wealthier and have an angry society. with low purpose in life.

Hello, good day. I have watched your videos and I think I can boost your audience in Spanish-speaking countries. We can translate and do voice-overs in your content so that it can reach more people. I hope you are interested in our proposal. Greetings.

And how are you going to earn money doing that? I know, art is more about doing something with love, it's about process not money. But, there is no way of doing any art if you don't have a roof over your head and proper meal to not die starving. Yes sure, there are someone who loves art and will buy your works, but they are rare, especially in eastern side. How can you rely on such an occasional thing?

Yeah I would like to know about that, everyone looks pretty relaxed. Money isn't an issue?

A good artist is going to find a job easily in Russia. You may open your own studio and teach people to draw commercially, which actually brings a great amount of money. You can also become a drawing teacher in state school or university and have a few positions to gain more money. You can easily transfer to digital (we have such examples on youtube) and work for cartoon/game industry. Besides that you can draw your own paintings and send them to galleries for sale, or draw commercially. Basically, teaching people to draw in a group gives the most money and some other options can be combined with that.

I graduated master’s degree of design in Moscow and we had there some tutors who would not only teach students of our uni but also schoolers and adult people who just want to draw for $50 an hour. If you manage to get a group of 10 people you can easily make $500 per day and work 2-3 days a week, which would give you total of $4500 monthly income plus your university position wage, and you might have a few of those

All artist I know who studied here (and you can see many of them in the internet) are just academic clones with no creativity at all, not even personal style. You can focus on classical academic skills (like many good schools in the world do), but that doesn't mean you have to be a retrograde whose mind lives stuck in XVIII century, as this art school does. When I was in Moscow and Peter I knew many painters who studied in this place, and they all had this hyper conservativa and anti-Western thing in common, like you can tell in that place sell the idea that Western art (and society) is decadent, and so on. Art as propaganda. There are many places in the world where you can get high classical skills plus having big space to creativity and personal development, instead of this hyper conservative thing. For instance, especially in North Italy you will find many schools where they teach you much higher and more varied classical skills than this place from Moscow, with much space to self creativity too, and without all the arrogant, toxic and retrogade mentality of this Russian schools (where they seem to be mostly interested in confrontation and comparison).

This place is not in Moscow, but in St Petersburg. You probably have been unfortunate in meeting the artists you describe. Get out more.

@@dmitryivanoff2799 Nah, they're right. You can just tell from the artwork that this school is stuck in the 1600s. Imagine going to art school and never learning about Modernism. It's craziness.

Oh no! They're cookie cutter XVIII c. style artists instead of cookie cutter modernist or (n×post)-modernists artists! And they have a conservative disposition instead of a leftist one! The horror 😢 Get a grip. People want art that aspires to the older ideals. We're done with neo-liberal and leftist """art""" (although even the Soviet era had better art than what we're forced to consume in the West). You speak of retrograde but that slur has no power when we see what's considered art now in the present. The fact that the worst you can say about the most mediocre students churned by this school is thay they're too academic (concerned with fundementals like anatomy, light, and line quality, etc.) is not as bad as you seem to think it is.
