This was thee BEST Vid on this topic I've seen to date! You can tell when someone is gifted and he is very gifted at teaching and motivating. I needed this during one of my 10 minute MCAT study breaks in the library today! LOL Yes it went over by 6 minutes but it was worth it! As an extremely nontraditional applicant, Im even the more encouraged today that I can and will do this. I will not become my own obstacle. Thanks for uploading!!

Great video! For the commenters who mentioned their ages thinking that its "too late", it's NOT. My friend graduated from dental school at 30. He had a classmate who was in her 40's (with a family) who graduated with him and she was at the top of her class. I'm 31 and I am pursuing my goal of becoming a doctor. The bottom line is when you finally reach your goal your age is not going to be attached to that MD, DO, DDS that you earned. It doesn't matter!

I've applied to medical schools twice already and have learned the hard way that EVERYTHING THIS GUY SAID IS TRUE! I've done the low MCATs, research, Masters in biomedical sciences, talked to admissions faculty, and THIS GUY IS RIGHT ON POINT!

It's the day after Christmas, and I am all alone late at night thinking about my future. I was literally visiting suicide again because how hopeless I felt due to my low GPA from my first years of college. THANK YOU for bringing me out of this hole. I know I can do it with enough work, I know that it's never too late. Thank you for your encouragement. Hopefully I can get into the same school you did and get to talk to you in real life one day. I'm about to start studying for the MCAT for the next 4 months. Didn't get my GPA yet, its my first year, I probably end up with a 3.0. This whole thing looks so intimidating. I'm an army reservist, I know some stuff on fear, self composure, and intimidation. I can tell that when it comes down to what you want to do, your dream, your future, it's a different caliber of emotion, way higher than what I've ever seen.

My preparations for the MCAT were my high school and university education. Period. In fact, I was running a lab experiment during the test and had to hike across the quad to check on it during our lunch break, so there was a lot on my mind at the time. The result: I had one of the highest scores in the Country. No, I'm not the brightest guy in the world. My point is that, if you chose your college courses with some thought to a medical career, you are well-rounded not only in the sciences but in the humanities/liberal arts and know what's happening in the world, you already ARE prepared. Read the questions then answer the questions. That's all there is to it.

***** Best of luck. You should follow your dreams, but, truth be told, while the practice of medicine is both interesting and emotionally rewarding, the business of medicine certainly is not. I would advise any young person contemplating a career in medicine to strongly consider dentistry and the dental specialties instead.

Mine is January of next year. I got a 20 on my practice test doing it dry. Hopefully I'll get a 28-30 when I take mine next year

When I took the MCAT, I didn't specifically study for the test at all. My whole high school and college careers were preparation for the test as they were for much of life. Interviewers subsequently told me that I only missed one question. So don't worry. Just read the questions carefully and answer them. Maybe you'll be surprised by how much you really know!

because it takes 10-12 years of dedication... The MCAT is hard because it is a standardized test.. you are competiting with other potential doctors.. it is harder tahn the SAT because instead of being against universirt applicant you are against med schoo, applicants... Plus the MCAT is a different kind of test than studenst areused to .. 70% of the material on the exam is from passages.. meanng you must be able to internalize information quickly

Note: alot of people and my family told me that MS is verey hard and its really worthless ..but just lknow who you are..if you like MD you will be a doc some day .. Thanx man :)

because it takes years of hard work...for example to become a orthopedic surgeon you need a minimun of 13 years of post-highschool learning before becomming a orthopedic surgeon.. And in those 13 years you're paying a whole lot of money that you dont have.

@diesel5355- that's my POINT! Critical thinking carries over into EVERY field-medicine, law, business, etc. Teaching weak shortcuts sets these poor saps up for failure. Getting a good score in the MCAT is like an eighth of the battle (if these tactics work at all).

i say do the UKCAT and move into uk. it's more like the SAT'S and more of an intelligence test than, a science test.

not too late to still apply to it. there is no age limit to apply to medschool if u really want to do it. don't give up.

I have watched your videos, and I really would like take your advice about me staring to prepare for medical school. I'm 34 years old I have studied Computer science and was graduated in the year 2000, my GPA wasn't that good it was 2.3,I was a surgery lover since I was a kid, my dream is to become a great surgeon! after I spent all of these years working in my studied speciality I woke up one morning and decided to become a surgeon.... to be con. next com.

I am in similar situation. When you do find the answer to your question, please let me know. I am considering nursing school, accelerated program, to find out if I really want to be a doctor. The thought of becoming a doctor is always a nagging one but I'm still unsure...not sure if I can deal with blood and guts and death.
