Tan suede with rubber sole for me. Have been wearing them often this month. Got a same style pair in black suede that I look forward to wearing in the fall (CA).

I have those exact Taft boots (saw them on an old boot video in the old video) I have Common Project olive suede boots (on clearance because 500+ retail is too much) I think a black calf skin leather with leather sole is what I will be getting next for the dressy situations I work in and do not always want to wear my standard black dress shoes.

Can the suede be cleaned if you take it it to a shoe shop? I like suede Chelsea but they seem like a pain to keep clean

For the most part yes, I recommend treating all your suede before you use it. It's much harder to clean when it's untreated. -G

If you want to wear chelea boots as a dressy casual thing, then you go with the leather and the suade. Suade gives off a more casual look, and if you want to turn it up a bit, cuff the end of your jeans.

You can combo them with medium brown, charcoal, grey, white/off-white pants, even black and light blue jeans. Make sure that any pants you wear are slim-cut (or skinny, depends on your body type).

As we approach fall...I'm watching Chelsea boot videos again. I can't help but agree with your final point on the effect of the the pants/jeans and its fit towards the ankle. Too loose and it just takes away from the boot.Too tight, someone might call you out for skipping leg day!

I think it kinda depends on the pants color. I have black and sand Chelsea boots that I rock with a dark grey overcoat. Both can work just depends on how you do the rest of the fit

is there a way to keep the dye from dark denim from staining the suede on the boots. I noticed blue dye stains where the hem sits on my Timberland 'classic yellow' boots so I would imagine that dye bleed would also ruin nicer suede boots.

When you are wearing Chelsea boots that are a light suede and dark jeans that may bleed the trick is in the socks. Put double tube socks and let the outer sock be black. When you put on the Chelsea boots roll down the black outer sock over the Chelsea boot. The entire top part of the boot should be covered with the black sock. Then let your jeans rest on the black sock rather than on your boots. If the jeans bleed, it will do so on the black sock, not on the boots.

I don't hate them. I just think they are a fading trend that I can't justify spending $600+. Also, I think the fact that I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of those style shoes that weren't Gucci (aldo, steve madden, etc) says something about that style to me.

Don't ever try to wear chelsea boots with a suit saying, "you're trying to dress it down." That is not the proper way to do it. The way to do is instead of wearing a tie, you unbutton two of your dress shirt. To turn up the heat in an all casual look in terms of foot wear, chelsea boots are not the way to do it. Niether is any other type of dress shoes.

Also, please take note that I did not make the comment to try to tare him down, but rather to build him up and let him know what's good and what's not. My advice to you is, before you try to make comments based off of what someone has said. Rather ask questions as to why that person, or myself made the comment in the first.
