2022. It’s a new year. A moment to start fresh. Clean slate.
Maybe you are new to learning English.
Maybe you have tried and failed many times.
But if you’re watching this video it’s because you have a genuine desire to succeed at learning English.
But the truth is that you probably won’t. Because you have one thing in common with most other people: you are the victim of a system. A system that begins at primary school, continues through high school, and then into adulthood. And what is this system?
The education system.
And in this video I’m going to explain why you’re a victim, and how to break free and really succeed at learning a language.

I'm studying to be and English and Spanish teacher as a second language and I really enjoy your videos! I always feel the same about language education, it's boring, and unpractical, and it takes years to reach a level that you could learn in months... I'm in! let's make a revolution 😛

I agree with your opinion about education system, because I also think that it has given everyone a false idea about language. I have been learning English since I was 8 years old. All my school teachers said that grammar is very important, so they force me to learn it. And that’s the reason why I didn’t really like English. But from the moment I started watching your videos, I understood that English is truly interesting subject which helps us communicate with other people. You’re the coolest person who tells students about “how language works” and “how we can use it” I have ever known Thank you, Christian

@@morpheus759 , hi David. No, it is not dangerous. Only Fox News mudslings us. I am a civilian living in the most misunderstood place in the world which is Mogadishu. If you want to know more about Mogadishu, please, write the Somali name of it (Muqdisho) on the Google engine. Then you will find extremely alluring and rosy images. Mogadishu is an English name which was maligned by Fox News and the like. So use "Muqdisho'' instead of "Mogadishu'' to know about the real place where I live.

It's easy for me to hate exams because I was never any good at them. I never saw the point. I wanted to know why we needed to study the material, but nobody ever gave me a satisfactory answer. So I left school a failure. Now, many years later, I am an English teacher, I have even passed an exam to become a recognised teacher (a rite of passage you could say). I've found my motivation. I like to study! I began teaching in Italy only because people asked me for English lessons, now I teach because I have a passion for culture and communication, and because it's one of the most challenging, rewarding and enjoyable things I do in my life. So, I subscribe to your crusade Cristian. I see it as one of the biggest and most exciting challenges in teaching today. However, I have some tricky questions: How do teachers effectively tap into the individual needs and passions of students when the general mind-set is "we need traditional grammar courses and exams" ? How do we re-educated the minds of students (or victims of the education system) who now feel abandoned and incapable? Then, what methods can be created to introduce this approach, as opposed to simply learning a set of language rules? And can this even be effectively taught to a class of multiple students? How do we set goals to measure improvement if we remove exams? We need objectives and we need to feel accomplished. As I type this I'm arriving at new conclusions - a few break through thoughts maybe. Thank you Cristian.

Hi Christian, I am a native English speaker having been born and educated in the UK. I am currently teaching myself French and have of course watched no end of videos by many experts. I can whole heartedly that say I totally agree with all that you have said over the course of your posts. I am a failed product of the way French was taught at my English grammar school. Had your ideas been in place when I was a young lad, I would have no doubt continued with my French studies rather than abandon them at the earliest opportunity.

All of these ways of language learning really are existing for all of us since the day when we come into the world. But we always expect that only a school and a teacher are the best instruments for man's learning. We are afraid to do the first step to conversation with other people without helping...
