I live in New Hampshire and have a 120' driveway. Keeping my Ariens in top shape is a MUST!! I always add fuel stabilizer and turn my gas valve off to drain the fuel from the carb. When I start it in the fall, I add fresh gas to what is left over from the Winter and let it run for about 20 minutes or so. Then after it cools, I always change the spark plug. So far, so good, 6 seasons with my Ariens. I'll be needing new belts and a friction wheel replacement soon. Great job with your videos, your work shop looks immaculate!!

I completely agree with you on running gas out before summer storage. My Ariens Compact snowblower will be 11 years old this Fall 2022 and I have been running gas out every Spring. It depends on who you take advice from. Donyboy73 on KZfaq also suggests the same. I do all the maintenance on my snowblower, except I did not want to change the two belts or friction disk I have noticed wear & tear after 10 years last Fall. I had a dealership change the belts and disk and the serviceman said he added more gas and a stabilizer to the gas and he told me I could store it as is. He did not tell me what kind of stabilizer he added, but he said he does not recommend Sta-Bel which I have used in my gas year round for my snowblower and Honda HRX217VKA lawnmower during use. I also use Sea Foam every other fill to clean carb. The serviceman did agree with me on that. Thanks for the info and I just wanted to mention I agree with you on running gas out before summer storage, or Winter storage for my Honda mower. By the way, it's snowing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today April 2, 2022. Don from Milwaukee

I agree 100% with you about storing the snowblower with no gas left in the tank and draining the remainder of the gas out of the float bowl. Often people run it out of gas but forget about the gas sitting in the bowl. I have to say I learned a new tip from this video wiping down the machine with a moisture displacement to prevent rust but this was a awesome video for tips on how to summerize a snowblower. Hi JB. Well, here in Montreal, after a full winter, my Arians blower hours were 3.8. (I have a 3 car garage and front walk in the city). I know it to be the hours, based on the attachment you recommended. We had dustings, but only three storms where the blower was worth taking out from the garage. I will definitely be draining the tank, I alwas let the engine run dry after every use. As well, I will be flushing the oil and checking the filter for particles(brand new engine). The gas for the blower that I bleed, will be used for the lawnmower. nothing to go to waste. My blower has two grease nipples in the auger shaft, one nipple midway between two augers on one side and one on the other. I don't know what grade of grease to use. I will be purchasing a home-owner grease gun. Following what I saw on an earlier video about coating parts of the machine with epoxy paint, I will do that for the shoes and the bottom lip of the blower. I followed your videos, Thanks for producing them.

When is a good time to change the spark plug, I do it every year on my lawnmower, should I do it for my Ariens snow blower as well. Also, can I wait until right before the winter season to put in the oil instead of immediately after dumping out the old. Thanks, love the channel.
@GarageGear
@GarageGear 2 жыл бұрын
Hey SMM! You shouldn’t need to replace the spark plug every year. Spark plugs can last a very long time. In many cases I just clean them and put them back in. My ariens spark plug is almost ten years old and has never been changed. Cleaned twice and still runs fine. I would definitely put oil back in because that will keep the inside of the engine block from corroding. Especially if you like in an area with muggy summers. Thanks for watching!

Hey BTC! I would say a couple hundred bucks but I would really have to see it to determine that. Working order, newer parts, paint and overall condition play into that a lot. Those are generally good machines. I’m sure your dad would be happy with it. Thanks for watching

Does it make sense to leave the gas cap off and unscrew the gas valve under the carburetor bowl in order to limit condensation in the empty gas tank?
@GarageGear
@GarageGear 2 жыл бұрын
Yes those are both a good idea! I usually will just slightly unscrew the gas cap to let air in to dry things out. I usually don’t like to mess with carburetors if I don’t have to. Thanks for watching BL!

Is there anything that you do to prevent or slow down the rust on the pulley systems within your snowblowers? Drive pulleys and auger belt pulleys? Not sure what to hit it with to prevent rust but that won’t cause the belts to slip or degrade, thanks

So Ive got the same snowblower.. well its a platinum 30, 16.5hp. I cannot just pull the cord as there is a ton of resistance during some point in the stroke.. not sure why but once its past that point, I can rip thru and it starts right up. So much resistance the cord knob is ripped from my hand! Thoughts? Resolution? Other than that, its a great machine! Your videos are great! Thank you! Cheers from the Hudson Valley 🍻🤙

Hey Eric! I’m not exactly sure without seeing it in person. That is a big engine though so I wonder if it the size of the piston causing that. I don’t think it’s anything to be alarmed about because of its size. If you want to send me a video feel free to email me. Thanks for watching bud!

Hey Todd! I have the regular deluxe 28 and it has worked perfectly for me these past almost ten years now. I installed an impeller kit on it after year 2 or 3 and it’s an absolute animal! If you have a really wide driveway you may want the extra power to send the snow so it can make it across other than that you should be good! Thanks for watching!

Godday to you JB. Your precious and expert advises are always very important for me Let me ask you an important question about the snowblower maintenance. Is it safer (in order to avoid oil spills from the filling cap) to turn the snowblower up to service position after you have drained the old oil from the engine sump, but before filling with the new or you can add the new oil too and then turn the handles up to service position ?? Or it makes no difference even if you have added the new oil in the engine ?? Grazie once again and Ciao from the Italian Alps
@GarageGear
@GarageGear Жыл бұрын
Hey Giuseppe I would say drain the oil out and then tip it up. Leaving a snowblower in the service position could allow it to leak oil. I’ve seen it before on a machine that was in that position for a long time. Hope this helps and all is well my friend! 👍

@William Healey if you're changing the oil every year, no matter when you do it you are already doing better than the majority of people. I personally change mine before storage as well. I actually buy a new Honda snowblower every 5 years. The amount I get on the re-sale of my old one pays for 75% of the new one.

I store a motorcycle for 6 months here in Canada and the general consensus is to fill the gas tank. This prevents the steel gas tank from rusting inside but the recommendation for a snowblower is to drain the gas tank which also has a steel gas tank ? Which is best for a snowblower ? I always store the bike with non ethanol gas.
@GarageGear
@GarageGear Жыл бұрын
Hey James! I’ve always drained my gas tank bone dry for the summer months. About 6 months goes by each year. No rust inside. 10+ years doing this procedure with success! Worst case scenario if your tank is rusted, buy a new gas tank right? Thanks for watching!
