Falling into the water safely and getting back onto the board is the topic of this episode #6 of How to Stand Up Paddleboard with Verena Mei. Please subscribe to the blueplanetsurf youtube channel for new videos posted on a weekly basis, Aloha!
Summary: If you are loosing your balance on a Stand Up board, it's best to fall into the water and not onto the board, as you can hurt yourself and/or damage your board by trying to catch your fall. Fall flat into the water and don't jump in feet first to avoid hitting the bottom. To get back onto the board, kick your feet behind you, not down or under the board, while sliding your chest back onto the board, it's easy if you do it right.

Went out for my first time ever today and after watching several of your videos last night I had so much more confidence and did great! Was out on the water for hours and only fell in twice. Each time, it was a breeze getting back up! Thank you so much!

This video was recommended by the folks at Serene Life, and it is really helpful. I just got my first Inflatable Board and was concerned about falling off (the wrong way and hurting myself), and then getting back on the Board. This video addressed both of these issues and I can't wait to get back on the water this weekend. Thank you.

On iSup is very hard to get from side. I get from behind. Put paddle on the board or leave in the water, you do not need it for now. Get behind the board, grab metal hook or leg strap cord (holding on the sides of board does not help, too thick). Swim a bit forward, so you have some speed in the water. Quickly pull the board under yourself. Usually it goes only half way (because it's too buoyant). Then grab carrying strap in the middle of the board with other hand and pull board more under yourself. After second pull you'll be on the board. To fully adjust your position use sides of the board, which will be easy at this point. Hopefully it will help.

I have a new iSUP, and first time i went out on it, I've hurt my ribs getting up on it. It was very choppy and i ended up falling a lot. I used hard board in the past and had no issues, pure fun. I will try this method next time. Thank you!

Thank you for the video. Very well explained. Today I tried SUP for the first time. Fell into water and couldn't get back on to the board. I had a life jacket and I was using a hard board for beginner. Next time will definetly try the method showned in your video. Thanks and appreciate it.

The rail thickness makes a difference, thick, high volume inflatables can be harder to get back up on.

Are you kicking your feet behind you to get your whole body close to the surface before you slide your chest onto the board? A thicker board can be harder to get on and a pfd can also get in the way but with good technique it should not be difficult.
@Kwood10
@Kwood10 4 жыл бұрын
blueplanetsurf I was kicking my feet behind I think it was hard because I’m overweight (wkg on that ;) & my ISUP is 6 in thick . . I’m thinking of practicing in my community pool so I can get the technique down
