Let us know in a comment if you are in a long distance relationship OR if, because of everything that's going on, you are now...I'd love to know how you're finding it! And be sure to reassure one another too and offer your own advice! These videos are always to spark discussion and to have a big, global chat! xxx

I’ve been in a LDR for several months now, separated by UNI. I’ve always looked up to you and Thomas, and was a viewer from the very beginning of your relationship! (Was a viewer when you mentioned being not sure about monogamy, even. It’s been so amazing watching your journey) Anyway, this gal I’m with is totally the one for me. I can honestly credit you for being the one to help me feel comfortable with my bisexuality, and now I credit you for being someone to look up to in my LDR. I’d say we handle it as best we can, but I absolutely relate to all the crying and difficulty. Now because of the virus, we don’t know when the next time we see each other will be, which is something we usually count on to get through. But I know we’ll make it.

I was in an LDR for over a year!! (Nov 18 - Dec 19) We were friends for almost a decade and things finally grew together. We talked on the phone every evening and did Skype calls almost every night. We'd watch TV/movies together by being on the phone together and synching up our streams. He's a night owl but I'd have to be up for work at 7 AM so I would often fall asleep with him on the phone and he'd wake me up in the early morning to tell me goodnight. I love him so much! He moved in December to be with me and now we're quarantined together and it's actually been so nice. We're settling down a little now (coming out of the "honeymoon phase") and I love seeing him every day and not have to leave him to go to work in the mornings, which was always hard. If I get stressed he tells me to go to the bedroom, turn something on the TV, tucks me in with my favorite stuffed animal and leaves me alone for a few hours. I'm so thankful to have him in my life and I feel lucky to be in love with someone who works so well with me and knows me so intricately.

amy victoria I’m in a relationship with my boyfriend 5 months this Friday but we’re very lucky that we’re together during this hard time he arrived at my house just 2 minutes before 12am when the lockdown was announced after Leo made the announcement my boyfriend was going to stay with me anyway during this time he just came a day earlier I’m very fortunate ☺️ I don’t know what I would’ve done if I couldn’t see if we could only video chat, call and text I’d find that so hard I’m so happy and lucky for his company. But I really feel for the people out there who were gonna or plan to go on a first date or 2nd/3rd when the lockdown was announced

In my experience losing the feeling of love can sometimes be because of unrelated difficult times your life... I felt i was falling out of love with my partner but waited it out - looking back I realised I had just been really depressed but was projecting it onto my relationship and generally feeling numb, not just in my feelings towards my partner. Now that I'm doing a lot better I have no doubt I love him still :)

My boyfriend (Australian) and I (Spanish) were in a long distance relationship for 3 years, until last September. Watching this type of videos helped me when I was sad about the situation. It was one of the most difficult things I had to deal with sometimes but it was all worth it. Now we are stuck in quarantine with each other and thanks to our experience we appreciate every second of not having half of the world between us. So to anyone dealing with a ldr, don't lose hope, your time will come too 🥰

When me and my (now husband) were dating for around 2 years, i had to move to Cork from Galway on my own for a year. He proposed when i left. I missed him so much and we visited one another much like you guys did. My college course was soo busy that i rarely got home to galway but my fiance cane to visit me and would stay a few days at a time. I literally had no time to do anything with him when i got home every evening but to be in his presence while i worked on my college work. He was amazing and i appreciated him still visiting me even though i was so busy. x we are now together 11 years and married 6 years with 2 lovely children. That year away from one another was hard but we managed x

me and my partner are seperated for a month now, the longest we had to go without each other was six weeks when i temporarily had to move away for uni, we don't even live that far away from each other, only about 200km and before we saw each other every week for 2-3 days, but due to closed borders in europe bc of the coronavirus, we don't know when we'll see each other again. it's breaking both of our hearts and there's been phonecalls with us both crying at the other end because we just want to be together but we can't. so far we're managing well, our communication is way better now, we're texting everyday, talking on discord everyday, watching netflix and youtube together and playing videogames. I just want to lay in his arms again tho. Thank you melanie & thomas for being such incredible role models when it comes to LDRs and in general, I really look up to you and best of luck with the baby and all!!

A long distance relationship would be the best type of relationship for me, cos I wouldn't have to see them very often. I love being alone and especially living alone with just my cats, having to see someone all the time would really get on my nerves.. and I like doing what I want whenever I want without having to consider someone else. If I only had to see them once every few weeks it would be ok.

My now husband and I were in a LDR for over a year before we closed the distance. We had 200 miles and a country (I was England, he was Wales) between us. We relied on facetime, texting and royal mail in between the visits. I remember we always tried to have the next visit planned in before the one we were on ended. It would be a weekend of time. Friends told me it wasn't a real relationship, that I couldn't possibly get to know him properly, but he never let me down, and I knew that physically being together, didn't mean that you would know someone more. I clocked up over 10, 000 miles on my car driving to and from South Wales/London. He did similar (although his car often ended up being AA relayed home!). It was so, so hard leaving each week - there would be so many tears! We finally closed the distance a year and 3 months later and I truly believe that our LDR roots have made us the couple that we are today. We are able to communicate so, so well because, in an LDR that is all you have! We got married may 2019 in Gretna Green with our closest friends and family with us ( there were 13 of us in total including 3 children) and it was perfect. I still look back fondly on our LDR days - although glad that we no longer have to say goodbye!

Currently in France, I am in a 4 years ldr for work reasons. We were suppose to finally live together in April but now we can't. I just want to say that sometimes it is normal to not "miss" the other person. I'm still in love but I am used to not seeing him everyday so sometimes I don't miss him but the thing is that I'm still thinking of him everyday and when I wake up or when I go to sleep I have a thought for him. But I would say in my opinion it's normal to not always miss your partner. You are right communication is a key in a relationship and it so important in ldr! We’ve been dating for almost 1.5 years now, and we’ve been consistently apart for about 10 of those months now (although I visited him for a week in winter). Surprisingly, quarantine has allowed us to call each other more often, but we’re now uncertain when we’ll see each other next. Thank you for this! My boyfriend and I were abrupt put in a long distance relationship because of the lockdown (the last thing we said was "see you later!" haha). The first weeks I found it very hard, like I didn't want to accept it. Now I see the positive part of this experience. But at the same time I discovered how much he really means for me, the way I miss him and how much energy I get just from skyping with him. We also learn how to communicate better, and how to share our love in words (something that we found difficult before) instead of actions and affection. It makes us more emotional open. This period also learns me to let loose of control (not knowing when we see each other again). I just try focussing on today and reconnecting with my mind, fantasy and nature. I think our relationship with each other and ourself will have improved after this.

Me and my boyfriend are LDR and have been for 7 years. Even we are struggling not seeing each other for this amount of time! The only thing I can suggest if you have been a couple for a while is don't worry about the texts and calls do what you want to do for the day and you'll have plenty of things to tell eachother in the evening and even doing that can add a bit of excitement because you'll both be wanting to spend time with each other in the evening and will want to speak to each other more!

My partner and I are now in a long distance relationship - this year he took a job in Sydney and I live in Melbourne. We’ve been together for 2.5 years and it is so hard - I can’t leave to be with him as I only have one year left of my nursing degree and I’m currently working two jobs as a disability support worker. We’re best friends and it’s hard not seeing your best friend anymore and then not being able to see your other friends due to isolation. However I have noticed I’m reading more, I’m hanging with my family more, having board game nights with my siblings, I’m painting more and I’m loving it. I have more me time. Although I want to be with him more than anything - I need to use this time to finish my degree, work hard and enjoy my family time before I leave and be with him next year.

I’m in a LDR with my boyfriend, me being in Australia and him living in the UK. We try to set times for FaceTime but because of the time difference it doesn’t always work, but that’s ok! We trust each other and it actually makes it easier in isolation because both of us aren’t doing much in our lives so we aren’t missing out. I haven’t seen him since January and the longest I’ve been without him is 3/4 months so this time will definitely be harder with the travel restrictions and not knowing when we can internationally travel. We have been together for over a year now and wouldn’t change a thing 🥰

My partner and I have been in a LDR for about 3 years now (5 years of relationship in total) as he is working in England while I am finishing my degree in France. The quarantine had his job asking the personnel to work from home so he actually came back a month ago and we've been living together through this isolation period. We are really grateful for this unplanned time we get too spend together ! Some pieces of advice we collected allong our LDR : be grateful for the little things, make a big deal of seeing each other (organize a little surprise when they visit you for exemple) , share your dreams for the future (we love house hunting online or looking up the profiles of shelter dogs), COMMUNICATE a lot, trust the other to listen and make them understand when and why you have been hurt by anything they could have done (without judging them), know than no one knows what is on your mind except yourself so you have to tell if you want to settle en issue, also tell them when you feel positive things (I still get butterflies whenever I receive an impromptus "I love you" in the middle of my day), understand that the other may want some time for themselves as you are also allowed to get some time for yourself, try not to stop having fun while being away from each other. And maybe you won't work it out, it is ok bc LDR is hard and not for everyone, try not to beat you up if it doesn't. 💚

I’m in a LDR for over a year now. We haven’t met in real life though, but we were looking forward to see each other in november. With the virus being around, I don’t know if it will still be possible to meet each other (I keep hoping). It’s kinda difficult to see people complaining nowadays because they can’t see their loved one for a few months. Like my boyfriend and I literally are 5000 miles apart from each other. We have been calling every day, a whole year round. So I think you will survive those few months. And if not, then you gotta take conclusions out of it. It’s harsh but true...

It all totally sucked, but really encouraged us to build some VALUABLE relationship skills. All my love to you and Thomas!

Use to be long distance with my boyfriend, now husband about a year ago, and it was so hard, especially going back home. We are happily married for 4 months and letters and video chats were essential. I didn’t have an iPhone, so we used Facebook messenger video chat and it was a game changer. We fell asleep over video chat and phone call, watch Netflix together, and just got to know each other for who we were on the inside. Love my new hubby so much ❤️

I‘m in a long distance relationship for 9 months now. I live in Germany and he’s living in New Zealand this is why we haven’t seen each other in 8 months. It’s not easy but we facetime daily, watch movies and stuff for it to feel less lonely. Guess it’s good that we both like to talk everyday because that’s not for everyone. Planning to go visit him after my studies in September for 3 months, hope it works out due to the situation!

My boyfriend and I recently celebrated our 2 year anniversary over Skype. I'm currently living in New Zealand, caring for a family member, while he is in australia where we met. With the border restrictions it means I won't won't know when i will get to go back. He is still working during this time so he can distract himself during the day, whereas I'm not so it's much more difficult. Keeping busy is so important or else I go crazy overthinking. But I cherish every phone call, face time and random message. I cant wait for this crazy time to be over so we can be reunited. Love you mel and thomas, thanks so much for the reassurance on the topic xxxx

Because of the self-isolating quarantine, this is the longest me and my boyfriend have spent apart in the 7 years of us being in a relationship. We're both considered at risk due his asthma, his parent's age, and my t1 diabetes, so it's safest for us to not risk spreading anything between our households. But it sucks. This video is so helpful for us, even though the 3 miles distance between us isn't exactly 'long-distance' 😅

My fiancé and I are long distance, he works in the merchant navy and unfortunately lots of methods of communication aren’t possible for us, sometimes no internet at all. He’s generally gone for 2-3 months at a time, longest has been almost 4 months. He’s been gone since the start of March and don’t know when he will be able to come back. It’s so worth it though, but not going to be closing the distance until we have a kid in a few years. We take every day as comes but it’s getting easier after a year and a half of doing it.

My boyfriend and I have been in a long distance relationship since I moved away for uni in February last year. We miss each other so much, but we also FaceTime often and visit each other every month or so. Now I'm isolating and doing uni work from my home town, except we're both social distancing with our parents and we still can't see each other. We know we can manage but it's really frustrating (especially for me, since being home=seeing him almost every day). Only thing keeping us sane is the amount of work we both have to do. Thank you for the videos that never fail to cheer me up xxx

You are goals! My partner & I have been long distancing a few times already and now we are separated as we're self-isolating with our families. I'm glad we have learned what is best for us, good morning texts and late night calls will do most days. He's not much of a texter so I don't flood him with messages and I don't like being interrupted so just like you guys, we ask before we call. It's so nice to hear someone else's tips and experience, thank you for this video, I really appreciate it 🥰

My now fiancé and I spent our first two years long distance when we went to college and then again for our eighth and ninth year because he became a commercial fisherman. I thought the second round would have been easier but it wasn’t. It didn’t help that I was constantly worried about his safety on the boat. That position actually opened up because a man had fallen overboard the year before and my fiancé was brought on. I grew a lovely friendship with one of his crew mates’ girlfriend because we would travel together to visit them. Her boyfriend would also have a stronger phone connection so she would get more updates when my fiancé’s phone wouldn’t work. She would send me daily updates that they were safe and I truly appreciated that ☺️

My most recently started relationship was mostly long distance. We became partners after a few dates and a LOT of talking via OKC then they moved about a month later to another state. We had weekly video chat/video game date nights, weekly overnight voice chats (falling asleep together on the phone and waking up the same), and a whole lot of talking via various digital means. Everytime we had a trip planned we would do countdowns of how many sleeps were left until we'd see each other again. They've since moved back to the same state as me (well, into my home with my other partners) and it's glorious but definitely was a bit hard during the away time.

I'm in a LDR and thank youu for being so open about being in a LDR and giving realistic advice. I'm currently in France, my girlfriend is currently in Canada, and we've been together for 16 months including a year long distance... So 6 hours of time difference (most we had was 9 hours when she was living in California), we usually only see each other every 2-3 months for 1-2 weeks. And as were both still pursuing our studies in our respective countries, the end date is not there yet... And now with the quarantine and borders closed, she probably won't be able to visit me in June, and I don't know if I will be able to spend a month with her in August-September like we planned... So we might have to spend like 8+ months apart for the first time. Which isn't fun. But we're very happy, in love and dedicated to making it work! Thank you again for feeling like this older sister full of fun and good advice!

Thanks for the video, tips, and because I'm going thru this now. I'm in a long distance relationship now,and I'm praying it will be over soon. But I'm trying to be humble, strong, positive, and motivated. It's not easy, but trust, loyalty, faithful, and communications goes a long way in a realtionship. And also with the conovirus going on as well makes it harder, and mix emotions at times. Please pray for us. I truly appreciate you guys taking the time out doing this, and because I know so many individuals all over the world is going thru this same situation.

I've been long distance (Brit dating a Canadian) for the last 2 years, and have only been spent a total of one month with my SO in person! Quarantine is in many ways easier for us at the moment because we've both finished school early and so have nothing to put barriers between us spending time together (apart from timezones), and it's been so interesting seeing our friends who have been forced to go long distance working it out for themselves. We've made long distance work for so long that I'm actually very comfortable with it, but it has put a spanner in the works with our plans for me to go to prom with them in Canada this summer... Still hoping that I'll get to see them again this year though, I miss them dreadfully!

I was/am in a v similar situation to yous back then! We became best friends all last summer, started dating at the Very end of summer and then like 2 weeks later I left for an Erasmus year in France lmao.... Navigating the dating stage long distance is a Mess and I definitely relate to the insecurity/not-sure-if-they-still-like you feelings. Definitely also agree on how long distance puts a gigantic microscope on the relationship and forces you to communicate a lot more than you normally would early on. I came home last month and thought that was the end of long distance but evidently not 🙃 . Really liked the video!

My (now) ex-boyfriend of 3 years and I had been doing LDR for half a year because we went to Universities in different cities and I think that loving one another isn't really the key to dating long-distance. The key is having a future together... So my ex and I realized that we did not know what our future would look like together thanks to this quarantine.

I've been with my boyfriend for a year, and he's moved out to another city far away, and it's been three months since we've seen eachother, and I feel the same way as you said in the video! I need constant reassurance that he still loves me or for him to text me or send me photos of anything just to know that he is thinking of me! Also I'm very much a "clingy" as telling him sweet things and constantly remind him that I love him and miss him, but then I feel like I'm a pain in the ass even tho he says I'm not hahah, so yeah. In general, I can say we're okay, but sometimes it is a bit difficult

My bf and I did long distance without seeing each other for a full year. Then we had 10 days together and another 4 months till i moved to his country. We lived together for 2 years (i think I can count on my fingers how many nights I went to sleep without him there) but now we are stuck long distance again as I was visiting my family in my home country when all the flights cancelled. Because of the time difference I leave him an audio before I go to bed, so when we wakes up he has something for me. Then he records one for me so when I wake up I have something from him! And we talk after he finishes work. We either face time/skype or call everyday, varying lengths, depending on how we feel. We used to do it 3 days a week though, but now we don't have other things to do and are used to living with each other, we hadn't been apart for even one night since I moved there! We are pros at this now, and like you said, so much detail, we agree to be honest about how we're feeling about everything, contact wise (if we want more/less/different). LDR needs are different, our love languages are physical touch also, and we just had to learn how to communicate love through the other ones! Honestly I still have this anxiety, or worry, that the longer this goes on it will be harder. I don't know when I'll be able to get to him (or getting a work visa for him to come here?), it's not so easy for me to get from New Zealand to Argentina...
