The thing is, despite all of the lasers and plasma weapons you see in sci-fi. Kinetic weapons like ours are a very efficient way to inflict damage upon an enemy. Even if their weapons are more advanced, our weapons still send dense pieces of metal at supersonic speeds towards their bodies.

@@jameswhite3415(Mb, I didn't mean to make it this long) I'm just saying who would be the victor shouldn't be painted in black and white, especially considering all the factors that would be in play. There was a military exercise near Iran, I dont have all the details, but the basis of it was American military tech vs an under equipped terrorist group under the command of an experienced commander, long story short the terrorists won because the commander knew the enemy would rely on their tech for communication, logistics and all the other important stuff to win, I'm not sure how he did it, but from what I can sum up for myself, he didn't rely on the expected equipment (or just modern day equipment) to gain the upper hand, plus the American team was a little overconfident. I'm not saying that we would have the same luck with aliens, especially if they were vastly superior to us. But we can't exactly say that they would kick our asses just because they made it into space. America specializes in military tech because it's literally fighting wars on a daily basis, and the government is spending nearly the entire economy trying to figure out to kill quicker and better, there are countries like Japan and South Korea that have better tech at home than we do in America, a world superpower. Sorry for the paragraphs, but what I'm basically saying as that better tech doesn't always mean victory, especially if if you're not investing in what's needed to take on an enemy.

Way back on IMDB--Rip! :-( -- somebody compared this to the novel 'Third World War' by Sir John Hackett (a veteran of Arnhem, it must be said) that wrote about an 'all out war' between the Warsaw Pact and Nato. Some years later, Harold Coyle wrote a novel called 'Team Yankee' about a mixed mechanized unit (Abrams Tanks, Bradley APCs and supporting vehicles) having to deal with this 'Third World War' on a 'company level'. So this other poster said THIS movie is like the 'Team Yankee' version of 'Independence Day'.

One thing you left out that the movie actually handled pretty well: Information. You're facing unknown enemies with unknown tech and unknown capabilities. They did the whole camcorder autopsy but you can go deeper. Saw the arms off some of the infantry drones, hand them to your civilian evacuees to pack back to the nearest FOB or COP. Find a tow truck and drag one of those cannons out if you have to or put it on the flatbed if it is one. Pickup truck full of corpses will go well for research and something like an F250 or ambulance can clear a road pretty well if you need to. Tap into phone landlines at things like offices where they are likely to still exist if comms won't get out of the city. Marines are from across the country and the modern world means that the few numbers you do know in let's say Kansas where internet and things like that are still likely to work, let them figure out how to patch you through to higher commands, or at least pass your info on if you can't stay. Figure out how well the drones react, are they thermal? Can they detect an ambush if you are still? Can they be tricked by smoke? Every piece of information you can get out is a human life saved on the counterattack.

ThrawnFett123 first marines aren’t armed with saws and aren’t allowed to make any civilian carry important research second you have your objectives and stay with the plan other lives are encountering aliens while you go back to base and bring research third landlines are dead first responders are gone the only way to get communications is to bring a radioman the internet may be going but isn’t the right tool to use research is deemed obsolete the counter attack was supposed to kill every thing if it is successful we can salvage parts since the invaders are gone we can take much tech as we want so getting information is only done after the battle is done getting information while in combat is also helpful but risky and your not a scientist probably the leader of your group would just call you out and say stop staring and resting we have a job to do and a race to save and yes this is crucial to victory but if we have more research maybe we can make technology ahead of our time and find there origins and go there and bring the fight to them
@ThrawnFett123
@ThrawnFett123 4 жыл бұрын
@@theoneandonlyjazztheautobo8597 you are in an american city, firetrucks and ambulances are usually equipped with metal blades to saw through wrecked cars and theres plenty of burnt out ones in the movie since aliens also attacked first responders. There's also hardware stores and garages. You can order anything you want when you have a gun in a warzone, but do you really think the average person would deny carrying a couple of alien parts when you just saved them? Landlines are often one of the last things to actually die in emergencies, they have their own power supply, their own lines, and their own redundant hubs with multiple routing options available to any that work. The biggest problem is finding one in the modern world, which is why I say stick to offices, I reccomend medical specifically since they usually have a fax machine and those commonly require landlines still. The internet is important in that your contact can find a number or location to call or go to like the nearest arsenal. Let the military actually get it up the chain, the working internet sections will help the contacts get to the military. The movie itself provides the reasoning on why that informations so important, they took the time to do the alien camcorder autopsy because the enemy recovers their wounded and is a superior force. The military needs any information it can find on their capabilities, especially actionable stuff, like say that the enemy rifles overheat after 20 rounds, or when fired directly up or down they tend to jam, or they are susceptible to certain chemicals like bleach making them overheat and explode. Or the autopsy itself that showed where to shoot them. All of those allow new tactics and weapons to be fielded, but won't do anything if no one knows because the enemy has prevented you from recovering intact bodies and weapons back to your HQ. As for no one agreeing or telling you to stop wasting time, again the camcorder, they know already how crucial information is. They have been fighting the aliens too, and know any edge is definitely important. It's why the US puts bounties on the latest tech from our enemies, like the north korean defector that was set up for life when he surrendered a new MIG, all military knows if you are getting your ass kicked, next best thing to improving your own gear is breaking theirs. All's well and good to recover tech if you win, but you also need actually win and no one but a suicidal medal chaser would ignore basic intelligence if they could get it on their enemy before sending in everyone to die in the counterattack. Again, every piece of tech and information now is a human saved on the counterattack.

I like how this movie made the aliens have an actual military command structure similar to human ones. Instead of the old boring hive mind. Also really appreciate that the aliens are just blatantly OP, they have better tech yes but it’s not like they are unkillable and the Trauma plates are useless. The fact that the Aliens lack heavy artillery makes sense for an initial invasion force into a dense urban environment, making their walkers much more practical. One of the best alien invasion movies in my opinion because I think it’s more entertaining when it’s more of a fair fight.

i belive that they modified themselfs, all the charateristics of them suggest they are an aquatic species that modified their bodys extensivly to prevail in terrestrial enviroment. Also, they aren't all that advanced than us, they have equivalent weapons and have tatics that are very similar to our own, but that is the problem... How a completly different species even modified to become humanoids, are able to replicate so well our tatics and even our manerisms? That suggests that they at least study us extensivly, and maybe by don't have our knowlosge of war in our enviroment, they try to mimic what they knew about us... But that is where the problem start... At this point, if they are able to mimic us, they probably have the capabilitys to do bio weapons against us (that would be the most eficient way to take us down), their bio mechanical nature even suggests that they are really good at this field. The only thing that could prevent them to attack us first with this kind of tatic is if they don't know what exactly they will be dealing with on Earth, and then, the whole ideia of them mimic us is flushed to the toilet because they will be uncapable of know exactly how we are. So yeah, the movie has some plot holes... I really like the ideia of this alien invasion, but you know wich movie got it really right? The movie Oblivion! In that movie the alien AI, use one of the best tatics of all, turn us against us! One Tom Cruise against humanity is bad, millions of them is a cathastropy!

Elson Felix Maybe aliens won’t be as different as us when we meet them, you see the aliens point at enemies, share ammo, care for their sick, this shows their intelligence and Cognitive agency and awareness is on par with us. To be honest, the alien invasion in that movie is pretty damn unstoppable (if it wasn't for the germs). Like these guys use EMP to disable all electronic devices, then pop up and start attacking in such a fast pace, that where ever they pop up, no more news comes out of that area. And they have energy shields. So basically it's an invincible blitzkreig that nobody expects.

yea but the thing is, before the 7-hour war, a lot of humanities forces have already been scattered due to incessant portal storms spawning Xen wildlife. Id imagine Los Angeles would be mostly empty and void of life with humans mostly seeking rural living environments as large concentrations of humans were more prone to head crab infestations. if it wasn't void of life a lot of homes and businesses would be boarded up with convenience stores and malls looted and streets empty or scarce of life.

I really like this movie, since it's release. What I like is that the alien forces power is not exaggerated like in other movies and that it was not just one human character that knew everything and took the hole aliens down single handedly. In most movies just because the aliens can travel in space, their weapon technology must be overwhelmingly powerful and advanced and every alien (even the grunts) must be 100x smarter than humans. The alien crafts, apparently, were hydrogen powered and not some magical tech that let's them hover/fly with no apparent physics laws being broken. Well this is a Scifi movie, but I like that humans were given some credit in this one

This alien invasion has elements of the blitz and the Tet offensive. The surprising speed and effectiveness of how they land and establish themselves is of the blitz. The fact that this is mostly a series of tactical battles makes the invasion much more like the Tet offensive. Each target for invasion is its own fighting force with its own immediate objectives. There is no mother ship in orbit directing the invasion, like in Independence Day. Each invasion point has its own equipment and objectives. They either fail and die on their own or they succeed on their own. For them its do or die.
