+Phạm Tiến Hùng You could then teach Vietnamese in, say Germany. If you wanted to really rip off the poor Germans you'd charge about €1000/hour. That would be the same relationship as $20/hour is to the average Vietnamese wage PER MONTH.

I agreed to a price with a motorbike in HMC. The first time I used the guy he was honest. The next day I used him and we agreed for the same price. But when we arrived he asked for more. I couldn't believe it. Being honest the 1st time and a crook the 2nd time was very unusual. We started arguing and some police came up to us, and I thought I was scammed and screwed. The police made us split the price down the middle. So, at least the police tried to be helpful. But the motorbike driver lost a customer.

Hey Alex! Haha my name is also Alex. Lately I been thinking about what i want to do when I graduate, I've always wanted to travel the world become an educator. I came to the thought that maybe I should move to Vietnam and teach. I am of Vietnamese heritage and born in Canada. I was wondering if I had a good chance of being hired? I was maybe thinking of going for an English Degree and perhaps teaching kindergarten starting off. Ideally if possible - I like to be able to work on some personal things. The fact that you said 1hour of work literally pays for 1 day living cost makes me thrilled! 1 hour of work in North american can get you a combo at a fast food restaurant. >.>

+Alex Nguyen Dear Alex. My name is Fiona. I was born in Vietnam, raised in Oregon and came back to teach English in Vietnam. They did test my fluency to make sure that my English is at native level. They did however told me to never speak Vietnamese around school area as well as trying to act "non-Vietnamese". I enjoyed the people and the culture but didn't like that kind of treatment. I realized that my students would prefer me - a Vietnamese American - over a caucasion America. However, to maintain the "foreign" look for the schools/language centers, management tend to discriminate Asian Westerners. I remember there were 2 Spanish teachers teaching English at my school. Their English were not fluent and their accents were heavy. They didn't have teaching credentials. However, they got the job as foreign English instructors!!

Is this really a good way to live in Vietnam? people should not be encouraged to have this lifestyle. Unless they have savings or rich parents? I advise people to look for steadier jobs in the cities that will give you fair hours and reliable work. This a little a day lifestyle will not help you if the worst happens!

I'm so glad you chose Vietnam to cover in your videos, I'll be there for vacation soon and possibly considering coming to teach if I can land something appealing. But I have to ask, do you find yourself able to save in money in Vietnam or are you just breaking even?
@bosuaandcarot
@bosuaandcarot 9 жыл бұрын
+Kimmyonaquest It's true, there are a lot of Vietnamese only earn 150usd/month. But for english speakers, they can earn 15-25usd/hour of teaching if you teach at Brishtish Council Vietnam or ILA,... Basically you can save more than 1000usd per month.It depends on you. If you need someone to help you in Vietnam in term of information, feel free to reach me :)

This may apply for those who just arrived in Vietnam. Few hours of teaching per day is not enough to pay all the bills, especially if you decide to rent. There are much better options. Private tutoring or personal approach to schools are much better ways to get a permanent job. Agency will collect half a money you earn. Also, a teacher could go to the Communist Commission of Vietnam, with all the documents (BA, MA or TESOL certificates) translated to Vietnamese. They will certify these documents. It will cost you a little bit to do that, however, when schools see these documents, you can get a job much easier. They will trust you more. Look for a big building complex, where lots of people live. You will find many small, private classes there. Most of them will pay weekly and it is s good salary. Do not worry about the negative comments. They either never traveled in Asia or they are jealous, or they see you as their competition.

Veery funny. You forgot to deduct 160,000/day for commuting. You also forgot to mention that teaching without a permit is illegal. And for "picking up a scooter" don't forget that you need to be licensed to ride it. Just because it's easy to break the laws of the country you visit, it doesn't make it right. I'm just saying. By the way, you were lucky a drive by didn't snatch that selfie thingie out of your hand. It's a very easy way to have a camera gone missing in Vietnam.

well he should be charged that amount, given that he himself charges $20/ hour to teach shitty English. This guy can't even speak good English. his English sounds good enough for conversation only, I bet anyone learning from him would only be good enough to be a tour guide. People been talking about a Chinese economic crash for over a decade. China has the manufacturing capacity, while the West's manufacturing has declined. Japan brought down Detroit, and Detroit has been dismantled, and the steel sent to China to build new cities there. There are no PC hardware production in USA, all of it is in Asia now. Mandarin is learned as a 2nd Language all over East Asia. Koreans do it, Japanese do it. I'm sure Brazilians prefer using their version of Portuguese than English.
