How To Sync Carbs Honda CBR900RR Fireblade Motorcycle | Balancing Carbs With One Gauge | 010
In this episode I balance the carbs on my Honda CBR900RR project bike. I am doing a full service on this bike and I have set the valve clearances as well as all of the other usual service items first.
Aquarium airline 4 way splitter valve: ebay.us/2XS9v3
Single carb dial gauge: ebay.us/j0s1Ag
4 cylinder manometer: ebay.us/lxrvuA
I discovered that my trusty 4 column mercury manometer I'd had for balancing carbs for many years wasn’t working properly. This was because at some point it seems that some of the mercury has gone missing. And there was not enough of it to work on all four columns of the manometer.
At first I thought I would need to buy a new one, but then I remembered a technique that I had seen where you can use one gauge. This required buying a simple piece of equipment which could be available from a local pet shop.
I had seen this done with a dial gauge before, mainly to avoid the calibration problem with multiple dial gauge setups. I thought that as my manometer had sufficient mercury to use one of the columns that I could use the same technique.
I purchased the appropriate 5 way air distribution block, and plumbed my gauge so that it could be switched between any of the four cylinders. I then went through the process to make sure that all of the carbs read the same.
Cylinder number 3 is the master cylinder, and the others are adjusted to match this. I had to go through the process a couple of times to get them all the same. When I say the same I mean within spitting distance of each other. Every time you blip the throttle they change slightly, the trick is to get them all as near as possible.
Once I had done, the throttle response does seem to be a hell of a lot crisper. I can’t wait to get out on this Fireblade project bike.
