This video shows the two-step process on how to perform the proper carburetor synchronization on the Honda CB350 / CL350 / CB450 / CL450 and CB500T family of motorcycles.
Step one - setting the idle speed synchronization, aka "bench sync."
Step two - adjusting the progressive synchronization, which means having the carburetors open and close at the same rate when the throttle is twisted.
New throttle cables and a throttle sleeve ensure smooth and proper synchronization.

Instead of putting a wire under the butterfly would it be okay to leave the butterflies totally closed and then come down with the idle adjustment screw until it just stops and use that guideline? I would think so

I don't own a guitar but I do have a carb jet wire gauge set. If you could mic the guitar wire for me it would be helpful so I know which gauge wire to use from my set for a good idle speed starting point. TYVM

Great technique but usually not all things are exactly equal, and sometimes you'll find that it is better to fine adjust idle while motorcycle is running. Provided both cables pull and retract roughly the same.

When your working with clients, just how often do you find the bike's troubles are linked to this seeming insignificant maladjustment? With these tandem cables, it must be a pretty common ill with variation of cable deflection as the throttle wears and stretches over time.

I have been chasing my tail trying to tune my carbs and I think I just stumbled upon my problem and I feel like an idiot. Can someone confirm my stupidity for me? Is the choke , with the lever "open", physically in a vertical position, in the farthest notch from the two that are close together, the riding position it should be in after warm up? I think I have been using it backwards thinking that "open" was for cold start warm ups. PLEASE HELP.

I wish the 360t was this simple. Is there an advantage to the complexity of the 360t carb sync process?
@MrTexMart
@MrTexMart 8 жыл бұрын
+ArchSmith - The 360 design allows the carbs to be more finely synchronized. Also the 360 design allows you to adjust the sync in real time as the engine is running based on the engines' unique fuel flow demands. The 360 is like the 350 2.0, it is a higher precision engine, but on the flip side there is a much smaller margin for error.

Do you have a video on how to tune both carbs on a 350/450 while the motor is running?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 4 жыл бұрын
No. The only adjustments you can do on the bike running is idle speed (1200-1500 RPM) and idle mixture. Start with the mix screw 1.5 turns out from seated. Turn clockwise in 1/4 increments till you find the spot where the RPM increases the most. Adjust down the idle speed. Repeat for the other side.

Great video! Question: Any sage advice on why my '72 CB350 is buzzing/vibrating so much, especially at higher speeds?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 8 жыл бұрын
+CriticalThinker02 It was Honda's way to address keeping the circulation going in your feet and butt when riding for long stretches of time. ;) They all do that and it is just the nature of the engine architecture. You have to either have a balance shaft or have more pistons to smooth out the harmonic vibration.

Common Motor Collective Had another question for you... Hopefully you'll receive this. I feel like my 350 is really loose in the front, almost like it could start oscillating at 55/60. I don't notice that on my CB160. It's just really loose, like its too easy to turn the wheel (feels like a bicycle). Is this also a thing with the 350's (like the buzzy/vibration is) or could it be the headset needs tightening or something repaired?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 8 жыл бұрын
+CriticalThinker02 Sounds like you need to rebuild your headset. Could be loose or missing some of the ball bearings. Got an upgrade kit to change it out to tapered roller bearings, which will help smooth the steering out. www.common-motor.com/honda-steering-bearings Also you tires could be out of balance and causing a vibration at higher speeds.

If the chain appears fine, how will I know when to replace the chain vs. move the real wheel?
@hiscifi2986
@hiscifi2986 2 жыл бұрын
The usual trick is to measure the length of 10 pitches, for a 1/2 inch chain it will be ten inches. The chain is considered to be worn when this becomes ten and 1/8 inches. For a 5/8 chain, the ten inches will occur every 8 pitches. The other method is to see how much you can pull the chain off the rear sprocket, not too sure of an actual figure, because the size of the sprocket affects the result, but you should not 'uncover' any teeth. The 1/8 inch in 10 is the usual standard, even on industrial machines, forklifts, conveyor belts etc.

The most common problem is a clogged Idle Jet and that's probably what you have going on. If you look where your float is there's that float stop bracket you'll see two little round circles one is the main jet the other is the idle Jet they need to be cleaned out. I use welding tip cleaner you could get an any Harbor Freight type place for like $7 little fine wires that you can use to clean through the Jets
