Although they might be more common lizards, it doesn't mean anoles don't need just as much preparation and care as more exotic ones!
In today's video, we'll teach you everything you need to know about to how to properly set up one of these guys and what level of care they need to thrive!

Used to have some of these,but keeping humidity where I live is near impossible,so after they passed,we never got more,I do keep five lined skinks and they do way better in a dryer environment,the only thing I have to do is pour water over the substrate,which is soil from outside mixed with coco fiber and wood chips,and it works great for them,and these lizards are communal,I currently have an adult female and a juvenile.

Great video! A couple questions! How do you spot clean? What do their poops and pee look like? Do you have to replace substrate? Also, can we feed them freeze-dries insects instead of live? Thanks!
@TyeDyedIguana
@TyeDyedIguana 3 жыл бұрын
Spot cleaning is pretty easy, we do it on a daily basis. It essentially consists of pulling out or scrubbing off any urates or poops, pulling out any dead feeder insects, cleaning the water bowl and replacing with new water, and occasionally churning up the bedding so it stays as fresh as possible. Anole waste is very tiny, but it will show up as tiny spots of brown, with a dot of white - that's their urates. We replace the substrate every few months. It might be sooner if you don't stay on top of the cleaning, or longer if you're very diligent about cleaning and if the enclosure is setup to be bioactive. We would not feed them freeze dried insects. These guys need live feeders like small crickets, tiny dubia roaches, or small worms. The movement from the insect helps get them into hunting and feeding mode. Freeze dried insects also do not contain the same amount of nutrition and water content as live insects do.

Any tips to get my Bahama Anoles to eat? They came from Petsmart's because I have no breeders in my area and they don't want to eat.
@TyeDyedIguana
@TyeDyedIguana 3 жыл бұрын
First thing is to check your husbandry. Make sure they have proper basking spot temperatures available, tropical UVB lighting, humidity, vitamin dusted feeders, and plenty of climbing space and some hiding places. If that's all taken care of, it might be what you're trying to feed. These guys can have small crickets, dubia roach nymphs, mealworms or other small prey items. They should be fed live, as they often rely heavily on movement to encourage hunting behavior.

are dried house flies good for food?
@TyeDyedIguana
@TyeDyedIguana 2 жыл бұрын
We do not recommend dried house flies. Anoles feed best on live, moving prey, as it helps to engage their hunting instincts. Wild-caught insects may also harbor parasites or potentially come in contact with pesticides, so we recommend purchasing feeder bugs from your local pet supplier instead.

Can different kinds of Anoles live together?
@TyeDyedIguana
@TyeDyedIguana 3 жыл бұрын
We generally do not recommend mixing species. We caution that cohabitation among even the same species must be done carefully. Brown anoles in the wild are well known for displacing the green anole from their native territory as they are faster and potentially more territorial, and would likely result in bullying.

Both species are abundant in the southeastern US. The green anole is native, whereas the invasive brown anole, from Cuba and the Bahamas, has taken over much of their territory. Unfortunately the brown anole is damaging the green anole population.

@TyeDyedIguana 3 жыл бұрын
We recommend any cohabitation to be done with caution. A 10 gallon is the bare minimum for a single adult anole. More adults mean more space. Males should not be housed together as they are territorial, females generally get along okay. A pair will breed, which can be hard on the female.

We don't really recommend freeze dried insects, unless you want something on hand as a backup in case of emergency. Lots of lizards, anoles included, don't really go into "hunting mode" without some movement from their prey. Live crickets also help provide the animal with moisture and has a slightly better nutritional profile.

We all make mistakes! Years ago we didn't have near the amount of information out on reptile keeping as we do today. It's also important not to lay the blame on your younger self. We always tell parents that while their new pet might be for their kid, ultimately they're responsible for making sure the animal gets everything it needs.
