Today I will teach how to talk about
１. what OTHERS want to do.
２. what OTHERS feel
If you have been studying Japanese for a while,
You might have heard of
たがっています(Tagatteimasu) /
ほしがっています(Hoshigatteimasu)
And you might have learned you can't use "たい" to talk about what others want to do.
So today I will explain A FEW EXPRESSIONS you can use to talk about what people want to do and feel.

Me too. I think Japanese don't say much what people want because it's not in the Japanese culture to say something that strong. I guess they will say ミクの誕生日って、プレゼントはいいかな and not that much ミクの誕生日って、プレゼントが欲しがってる The second sounds like Miku requested it. So it's super strong, and sounds like a kid's request something. Even, if someone said they want, they will probably say プレゼントが欲しいと思う

A couple of videos ago I hear "Miku eats five cakes".... In this video I hear "Miku wants to loose weight"..... 😂The continuity in your videos, not just in the amazing skits, but also in the meta, is amazing! 🤣 I just want to say that I watch a few good Japanese teachers here on YT, and there can often be an imbalance between English and Japanese.. You get that balance absolutely perfect! There's enough English for me to understand the lesson, and also appreciate your humour! However, you also provide so many opportunities for listening practice, sentence and grammar practice... Miku-sensei, thank you so much! Your videos are wonderful, and for me I think the most effective of all. I know this is an old video.. I am up to date with your life updates, but still early on my Japanese learning! Be well Miku 🙏

Love this video, and all other videos from you. Amazing teacher. Before watching this video, I didn't realize/know that I can't use -tai form to express what others want. So, thank you!!! As a quick feedback though, I may suggest, it would be useful to introduce garu as a verb before using　がっている。

Thank you for the great video, Miku. At school we‘ve also learned the combination of an adjective and がる like かとうさんがいつも暑がる or お母さん、まさおが痛がってる．If I didn’t miss it, this combination is not mentioned in the video. So I would like to ask whether it’s maybe not really used in „real“ Japanese?

It’s interesting how in Japanese they don’t assume to know what people want, think or feel, yet it’s perfectly fine to say what someone likes using suki. Liking something has to do with how we feel/think/desire, so it’s a weird contradiction.

Thank you for the lesson. Regarding the subtitles, I kept matching the red colours but then I realised they are not related at all. I think it's definitely nice to separate certain parts with colours, but maybe also separating their context would be even better. Like furigana characters are red, so is the word "said".

Wow! 今回、たくさん微妙な事を習ったと思います。ありがと! すでに，ファンになった。 Dear Miku, I wish you could use a different font for the texts that you display during the lessons, so that the details of the Kanji characters are easier to identify. For me as beginner there are many unknown Kanji, and so it would be helpful to really see more details - to memorize them more precisely and for writing them down. For people who can already really read Japanese the font doesn't seem to matter very much, even if many complicated kanji look just like a blob. But that is not so for me as a beginner. Thanks a lot. (BTW, I looked up that big word I tried to use above - subtleties, and found: 微妙, びみょう, na-adjective)

Hi Miku, I love your videos, you do a great work. I have a question though: In the beginning you say, that you use らしい、and そう, because you can never be sure if the person you talk about is buying a house (verb +らしい) or is happy (adjective + そう). But in case of a negative feeling you can? Why can’t you say 怒りらしい？Love from Belgium

S. Magnus the correct grammar to say will be 怒るらしい if you have to. But 怒っているらしい is closer because 怒る means about to get angry, but still it is weird for らしい has “I heard...” or “I believe...” meaning. Actually 怒っているみたい(よう)だ (みたいorよう has “look like” meaning, you can tell if the person is angry using your eyes) can be correct. 怒りそう is OK to say, but it will also mean looking like the person is about to get angry. So how about...怒っていそう? I don’t know about that. As you ask Muku 怒っている (which has equal certainty to うれしい as I understand) sounds like you’re hundred percent sure the person is angry and I’m also confused here.

Why is it 「お姉ちゃんは新しい携帯を欲しがってる。」here using を but 「私は新しい携帯が欲しい。」using が？

「欲しがる」is the verb form of 「欲しい」. Because「欲しがる」 is a verb (and, more specifically, a transitive verb), the particle used with it is 「を」. I hope this helps! ^-^
