in sentence : お兄さんはお父さん見たいに背が高い。Why put に after　見たい? 背　is a noun. i don't understand. 助けてください。

Does that word really mean Ghost? 3.27 Do you mean "You look JUST like your mom." ? 6：1５　人はケンみたい 10:30 このアパートはホテルみたいにきれい。 Is mitai acting like a adverb in this example sentence you made rather than a suffix or adjective? What if I changed it this way what does it become? このアパートはホテルきれいなみたい。

Why did you use な at places like 5:48 & 6:20, but not at places like 11:04 & 11:19? Are those not seen as nouns there? Also ありがとう for all your amazing videos! I think of your videos every time someone compliments my Japanese. よろ！

一つ目の間違えは「薬みたい　な　味がする」。「な」が必要だと思います。二つ目の間違えは「ヨーグルトみたい匂いがするやつ」。また「な」が入れなきゃいけないかな。たとえば、「ヨーグルトの匂いみたいなやつ」かな。

Thanks for the nice video! One question though: In the sentence "My older brother is tall like my father." the 背 is a noun, isn't it? So why is it not みたい+な instead? The 高い may be the corresponding adjective, but it does not follow up right after. This leaves me confused.

I think it’s because you’re just describing the height of the brother. That’s why it’s お父さんみたいに。Delete that and you’ll still get お兄さんは背が高い, which is still good. If you replace the に to な as in お兄さんはお父さんみたいな背が高い。For me, it sounds like the brother looks like the tall height of the father. Which doesn’t make sense.

I think its because se ga takai is a construction and passes for an andjective. se ga takai means "tall". So in this case its an adjectiv and doesnt need "na". Hope it helps!

Hey sensei, little confused, when you used みたい on the 東京はロンドンみたいに人が多い, the 人 is a noun, so why is it みたいに？ then on the 薬みたいな味がする.. the 味 is a noun yet みたいに is used on the first sentence. Kindlt explain. Thank you so much :)

らしい is more about a property of something or behavior. for example 男らしい is "manly", but 男みたい is "like a man".

Question!? you said if mitai is followed by a noun you should put na before the noun. but what about the below sentence you mentioned. london wa tokyo [mitai ni hito ga ooi] should you say [mitai na hito ga ooi] miku-sensei itsumo oshietekurete arigatougozaimasu.

ひとがおおい is one phrase and it’s considered to be an adjective! So みたい is modifying おおい, not ひと。 If you say ロンドンみたいなひとがおおい。it means there are a lot of people like London. You’re saying people like London. But the focus on this sentence is that “London has got a lot of people” like Tokyo. So that’s why it’s みたいに。

Hi, Miku-sensei! When you say おばけみたい without looking the sentence, how do you differentiate it from being “you look like a ghost” to “I want to see a ghost” since 見たい means “I want to see”?

Maybe the を particle can be a hint for 'I want to see a ghost', like: お化けを見たい But I'm not sure if this is how people would say this. If I recall correctly, みくさん told us on another video that the を particle tends to be omitted when speaking casually, so there probably wouldn't be a way to tell them apart.

I think you're overthinking it, I mean how often are you going to say "I want to see a ghost" in real life? Sure you can try to listen for pitch or something but It should pretty much always be clear from the context whats actually meant

I think maybe the difference is that みたい is used when things are different but similar, and っぽい is used when something is a certain way. I saw っぽい get used like this: 日本人: アメリカ人ですか？アメリカ人: はい！そうです日本人: ああ､アメリカっぽい！ Hope this helps! I'm not entirely certain but I've noticed this.

It's to describe something as having certain characteristics like that of something else. If ぶたみたい is "Looks like a pig" then ぶたっぽい is "Pig-like"
