I just got my ringneck today! He bit me like 6 times the first half hour lol but 6 hours later and he's asleep on my chest and I'm rubbing his head 🥰

Ringnecks are very wild, but very motivated and energetic birds. I’ve worked with a lot of birds before, but Niko, my ringneck, has been my absolute favorite to train and bond with. He’ll do just about ANYTHING for a banana chip or a pine nut, and he’s always enthusiastic about training. Ringnecks not being cuddly, at least from my experience, is a myth. Niko loves to cuddle, he’ll sit right up on my neck, they are just very selective with who they will and won’t cuddle with.

I got an indian ringneck because I absolutely adore them, i love how they look, sound, their flight ability. You name it. My ringneck, Snips, is definitely happy with the company but doesn’t want anything to do with hands, which is no trouble atall, she goes to bed at night on her own, i know where ill find her at any point in the day. She isnt a chewer, shes more of an observer, she will sit on a makeshift perch i made out of my wardrobe and sit and watch the world go by out the window, or will hang out on or in her cage, has zero interest in destroying anything (but has plenty opportunities to do so) she will sleep, preen and eat while im around. Only thing is, she was cage bound all her life til i came along, so has a fear of being closed into her cage. Which is why i keep her “cageless” she has a cage and uses it to eat and sleep in. She is not responsive to target training, which i know many, if not all, of you will suggest. Theres no doubt in my mind that i have a neglected and abused bird. On the plus side though, she came with all her feathers intact with zero sign of plucking.

My first Indian ringneck was a rescue, I had no experience with them previously. She was injured, wings got crushed by a child of the previous owner. According to the previous owners, she was "extremely aggressive". She wasn't at all aggressive, just misunderstood and in pain. One of my best rescues ever.

I got an Indian Ringneck because I love their voice and didn't want a needy/Velcro bird. But my IRN is super attached to my husband and I and loves to cuddle.

I simply love everything about them. From them long gorgeous tails, to how animated they can be. I’ve had ringnecks growing up, but never intuitive to their dietary needs and proper care, as I was young. 5 years ago. I decided to get Milo and it’s been such a joy having him around. They are challenging birds to have. You can either get a super chill ringneck, or a very high maintenance bird, which was my case. The key to owning any parrot is observing and respecting their boundaries.

1st time Indian Ringneck owner. My birds chose a Ringneck based on lots of breed specific videos. He only cuddles with me after the flock has gone to bed. Doesn't like to be handled or hands over head. Clipped wings early to facilitate communication and building trust. His first words, GOOD BOY, says it loud and proud every time! Has been more cuddly since moving him into a HUGE cage with a male Dusky Conure, who is a serious cuddler.

Oh I know more than a few ringneck owners who would kill for their bird to be like touché. He's not even close to being a problem bird luckily for you.

I found that my male Ringneck loves having bird friends and I think they do better with a flock. When I met Touche at Ronie's he was talking and so interested in my Ringneck I had brought for a nail trim he was so cute. My Ringneck learned a lot from observing which they enjoy doing. I kind of like that they are independent but enjoy being near you. Love seeing Touche and Lefty again.

always LOOOOVE and appreciate when you guys show the fails!! it’s so important. i fostered a bird last week just for a few days, and it was my first “my bird” experience ever (where i was the one completely in charge) and even with all the hours upon hours of videos i have watched from you guys, i still felt so stuck at certain moments. i had to go back to videos i thought i had “memorized” and look for all the “fails” to correct myself!

Touche's "word" that he says reminds me of Britches, another Indian Ringneck, who is famous for saying "really."

Funny when they talk it's as if they ingested helium, really cute. I've also noticed Ringnecks and Mustache parakeets have an extreme dislike of fingers wanting to rub their little heads, or any other part of their body, sure their may be exceptions to this rule. I love how you talk about the satisfaction and joy when they fly! Me and my partner have had this recently with our latest rescue conure, Olive. She was in a tiny cage with no interaction, then a huge cage with forced interaction and no flight experience ever. She now actively enjoys flying and hopping, she doesn't mind being touched and actively wants to be petted. It's so rewarding seeing a bird do what they are meant to do and to gain their trust to help them do it!

We got ours for looks and hopes he talks . So far, yes, it feels comfortable enough to get close, won't let us touch him, or hold him. It's only been a few months so far. The best thing has been feeding and watching him enjoy veggies, fruits, and salads , he looks super cute eating.

My friend is looking to rehome her 18 month old ringneck. I was looking for taming examples on you tube and your video really made me excited! I have experience with Eclectus’, Cockatiels, and Parakeets, but never had a ringneck. I’m meeting him later today. She has 6 other birds and just hasn’t had time for taming him. I guess he’s really chill and just hangs out on top of the cage all day and watches everyone. Just doesn’t have an interest in being social. Touché is very similar to my lovebird. My bird was insanely hand shy from the beginning, and even after months of training and trust building, he still gets nervous when I move my hand over him or other movements like that. But he’s definitely improving, and it’s reassuring to know that other birds like him also have these worries that can be mellowed out

Yesterday I just brought home an indian ringneck whose 2 years old, she was really scared and timid, it’s my first time with a ringneck although I have had experience with conures and budgies. Today she was eating bellpeppers from my hand, I hope she will get more comfortable around me so we can bond. Her previous owners couldn’t take care of her so they gave her away, and she was usually alone at her old home, her cage was very big but it had very few toys and only 2 perches, but I put in more toys and perches.

To answer the “why do people get an Indian ringneck” question (from one Indian ringneck owners perspective) For one they look really cool. And my ringneck doesn’t talk, I went into owning him knowing full well he doesn’t talk, since he was a rescue. But for me it was that separation. My female quaker is kinda a Velcro bird and I wanted a less cuddly bird to offset her actually. I mean it failed, my ringneck is extremely social and wants to be on people all the time. He’s the bird that gets put on visitors hands because he just loves people. I find the ringneck stereotypes are often exaggerated, but maybe Charlie is just an oddball of his species.

I got my female violet IRN in April of 2020, she definitely went through her bluffing stage from about 7 months to little over a year old. She is so wild and peels the paint from the windows, bites at the wooden structures built in the house, and is just a pooping machine. She loves to fly around the house and is obsessed with my boyfriend, it’s challenging though because she wants his attention but she is “mating” mode and I’ve learned to not acknowledge that behavior and try to ignore it rather than encourage it even though she’s being friendly and lets you pet her when she’s in those moods. She still doesn’t let me get even close to petting her ever, but she genuinely likes to hang around me and is always super interested in what I’m doing. She just spoke her first words a few weeks ago, “what doing” and it is super adorable lol however I wish the people I got her from wouldn’t have recommended her to me as a first time bird owner, I feel like that was just a push to sell her.

I just adopted an IRN from a parrot rescue and he is displaying the "bluffing"... I did research this particular species and didn't read anything about the no touchy part...lol but birds are individuals and I know nothing about his life before me. I have 3 of these weird and wonderful birds. They're so much fun, but you can't get the cute ringnecks you see in videos, without a lot of work and a good bond. They're wary at first, while they try to figure out what kind of person you're going to be for them. They're very sensitive birds that go through sudden fears similar to African greys, during adolescence. My oldest ringneck is blind and the sweetest bird ever that wants her head scratched for hours, but the other two are babies and haven't learned to like scritches yet because they literally don't sit still 😂

I got a Indian ring neck because they are adorable and aren’t as loud as other parrots that talk. Mine is sweet and likes kisses and scratches. He loves to sit on my shoulder and watch tv and loves dancing. He’s also good with my kids.

Not exactly an IRN, but around 2 months ago an alexandrine landed in our backyard and we took him in, as most of my pet experience is with reptiles it was challenging at first but he adapted really well to my family (FYI we searched for the owners and couldn't find them, and wild individuals live in my area but they have been much more rare to find in the recent years) watched a lot of your videos to get the hang of understanding and dealing with birds Alex just loves hanging around wherever we are, no cuddles but will climb on hands and shoulders no problem, if he is annoyed he will give warnings like a distinct low volume sound, or he might push my hands away with his beak, he rarely goes for a bite though. we didnt clip his wings as he loves to fly around and follow sounds of people talking, but he can be destructive to furniture he is a good boy though, when its bed time and i take him to his cage he doesnt resist and he gets a treat for it, but he will try to come out if we put him to bed while we are still hanging around his cage

Judging by his appearance, Touche is at least 3, his previous owner likely didn't socialize him properly..caged him, didn't hold him etc. Our ringneck is very affectionate, likes to be nuzzled etc He's happy on a perch in my office, but knows he can fly downstairs to his cage when he feels like going "home"..which he taught himself, down a flight of stairs and across an 1800 sq ft house, pretty cool

In answer to your question 2 yrs ago. It might of helped if you played with him. They love to play peekaboo, which is why he loved training. They love toys and puzzles and they love that they make you happy. When being held from a baby on they want to be on you. They are very social with everyone that will play peekaboo with them. They don't just say it.. they love the whole game. Hiding and popping up. They are fun

I live in india and there are soo many ringneck around my balcony about 20 -25 , they come every day for food and I feed them mix seed.... Edit : and some of them are tamed also.

I went for an Indian Ringneck because I loved their cute voices, their social nature and their curiosity (though I suppose that's almost every parrot huh?). My ringneck Alex is definitely social, he loves people and loves to hang out with me and any guests I have. He can be quite demanding when he wants attention however, he pretty much always takes the initiative when he wants to hang out. Sometimes it can be quite tiring, but I wouldn't have it any other way honestly. At first he was totally against any contact beyond kisses, particularly with hands, but after having him for a year and a half he does actually want head scritches from time to time. Though always on his terms, he lets me know when he wants to be pet, any other time and he will scurry away. At the moment he only lets me pet him, he's shown no interest in others petting him, maybe that will change? He does indeed know how to speak, which I was excited to see. His first word was "Ok" which was hilariously mundane. He also learned "hello" before "hi" despite me saying "hi" way more often. I suppose he wanted to be formal, which I can respect. He does only speak when he's very excited, so he'll often follow it up with loud noises or getting into stuff he shouldn't. He tends forget the rules when he's excited Overall I love having Alex around, he is a total handful and can be a real pain in the ass, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. He brings so much life to my place and always keeps me on my toes, for better or for worse lol

My teil Olivia, that I rescued. She is like this, she is fine in the same room as me, but, hands are to scary, she does GREAT with stepping up, she just doesn’t enjoy staying on my hand, so I used some of your methods, I figured out she loves millet, and used that to clicker train her and target trained her in like a few weeks, I will also just have her step up on my hand and just sit really close to a play gym super still, this way she can get off but doesn’t feel threatened Love the videos!

I got an indian ringneck and he is just the sweetest little thing!

I'm part of a lot of Facebook groups for ringnecks, and I strongly believe that most of the issues with ringnecks are due to outdated information being spread by other owners and breeders. It's frustrating the BS that people in those groups spread when it comes to nearly everything. Also about 30% of Indian ringnecks usually will be receptive to cuddling. The rest usually will not, and it's somewhat the species, but mostly how they're handled as babies. They are pretty wary of hands early on, and if they are always pushed past their comfort zone, it takes a lot to get them to trust again. I got mine because I also saw the hilarious videos, and was obsessed with the species and needed one. I wasn't concerned with not petting them-- I have kakarikis and a rosella, so it's not like cuddling is on my must-have list of things I want in a bird.

I have a 2 year old ringneck, so still very young. I’ve had Asriel since he was a few months old and he still is very nervous about things. He’s come along so well, loves doing tricks, and will let me pet him (only in certain areas he’s comfortable with, aka on his cage). He also steps up perfectly and is a non stop chatterbox, except when he’s around me! 😆watching you progress with a matured ringneck is so interesting! Definitely much more of a nervous type compared to our chilled out Amazon

It's not that they're not cuddly, they just have their own 'I need cuddles' moment a couple of times a week. We have an IRN and he is extremely social and always wants to be around people, but doesn't really enjoy to be touched and that's fine with us. The truth is, we didn't really want an IRN, we wanted a Patagonian Conure coz cuddling :D Things didn't work out and I couldn't wait for another Patagonian, so I acted on impulse and bought an IRN. BEST DECISION EVER :D He's been with us for three years, he's bilingual :D, super talkative, completely freeflighted(he's outside in our back yard all day long, he does fly around the neighborhood but never lands anywhere else except in our back yard and this behavior wasn't trained, we're still shocked about it :D), and surprisingly, not that interested in destroying everything... except smartphones :D He's flying skills are amazing, I just wish I had better camera recording skills to catch all of his air shenanigans on video.

Not all Indian Ringnecks hate being toched. I think we all hope we will get that one because if you can get an Indian Ringneck that likes physical touch it's one of the best parrots you can have. Mine is independent, large vocabulary and very chatty, he doesn't get into stuff he isn't supposed to, he's really smart and he learns quickly. Also, Indian Ringnecks are so beautiful and their voices are so cute. This hatred of hands can be trained out of them. They may never like to cuddle but they can be taught to accept a pet. I've had mine since he was 5 months old and it's taken 6 months of constant work to get him to somewhat accept petting.

Here in the UK, Indian Ringnecks are one of the cheapest almost guaranteed talking parrot. ours was £350 ($497) hand raised but can get them as cheap as £200 ($287). So far our Ringneck says 'peekaboo', 'Come on. step up' in a really cute punch and judy voice In the UK, Ringneck's are the only invasive parrot species to live all year round in the UK. There is a large group in London and in Birmingham. They are mostly green though and ours is yellow with a nice red beak

My IRN loves cuddles but I have had him since he was a baby; he was also hand raised by his breeder. Their level of comfort differs GREATLY depending on how they were raised. It also depends on the age you got him. If you get an adult bird, it will be much more difficult to bond with that level of comfort. On the other hand, getting a baby and bonding at that stage makes all the difference when it comes to whether these parrots are comfortable being affectionate or not with their human flock mates.

Touche sounds like he's saying here I am. He looked like he was playing peek a boo with Capri. He hides saying "where" lifts the head says "Here I am!"

I remember being 9y.o little girl who watched RIO all the time, i was admiring the beauty and glory of them. Now 10 years later i got my first parrot Koko, who is a ringneck parrot. He has gone through 1 owner and a bird breeder before i got him. He lived with his first owner for 2.5 years, who never let him out, didn’t give him any fruit only seeds and the owner was never home, myb once a week. He was in his cage all the time, dog barking next to him. Owners friend came from time to time to change water, put more seeds and to take the dog on a walk. He was never trained to be on the hand or anything, he was just a pretty exotic bird for his first person. Fast forward the owner sold him to a bird breeder and they were very kind to him, for the first time in his life he could come out of his cage, he got fruit and everything he needed. There were other parrots too so he also had company. I visited him for couple of times, first time i saw him i was just drawn to him. Every time i visited i tried to get closer and give him fruits, but he would just fly away. Once again fast forward i got him for my birthday. Few days later we got him a friend, also a ringneck parrot, we don’t know the gender yet since the other one is 5 months old. They get along very well, if we leave out few times they have fought for a toy or a food. Koko has been here for 2 weeks now and he is a lot calmer. Before he would start screaming when i was within >1m radius, but now sometimes i can change the food/drink bowl without him making a noise. Eventhough he let’s me this near outside of the cage he doesn’t let me super near and it’s quite sad because i really want to teach him tricks and everything. I know it takes time and it’s okay, i’m willing to wait. I wanted to ask a little help though. How can i get him to trust me? Rn i’m spending time next to their cage everyday watching them and movies. I try to give them food by hand, if they dont take i just put it on cage and stand there. It is not that Koko doesn’t like socializing, i think he is just scared of me. Because when i go somewhere for a long time he lands on the door and searches for me. And when i try to do powernap on the sofa then he lands on chair, looks at me and does some kind of whining sound to wake me up. If you read this and have any suggestions for me then you are more than welcome to reply, i would be very thankful.

This is exactly where I am with my sun conure. He likes to be with me, but afraid of my hand (but he does step up). He already how to spin with voice command, though. But it’s the only thing he does 😂 Oh, and we can also free fly, but he just gets spooked when my hand goes near him.

At first I wanted a indian ringneck cuz' they talk, and also for my sun conure to not be lonely. Now specially they are free flighted together they never leave each other when flying. But due to the indian ringneck flying so fast the sun conure falls behind a little bit.

I bonded with one I the pet store I go to. She was expensive and I put it off for almost 8 months. But that is my bird. So I put a deposit and visit her every day until til I can take her home. I can’t wait 🎉

I bought a blue indian ringneck from a pet store, I apsolultly love her but she doesn't want hands anywhere near her, she is free flighted in my house and she shares her space with a goulian finch, 2 budgies 2 love birds a Scarlett parrot and a rainbow lorreket. I have 1 large cage in the kitchen that is always open and the birds choose if and when they go in. I also have a large tree with strong branches that they share near the windows. Amazingly they all get along but Princess (indian ringneck) is the boss. She is the only 1 that will not leave the kitchen area where all of the others come into see me in the lounge room or in my bedroom. I am more than happy for her to call the shots as to how close I am aloud to get to her. She is the quietest and the rainbow is the noisiest as well as the love birds.

I have a Indian ring neck and we got him like 4 months ago he’s still getting “use to” my house and me and he came in a cage that was small and I felt really bad so I bought a slightly bigger cage now he has a longer cage with natural wood that keeps the top he can perch on but it’s still not enough I know I’m determined to make him have a happier life so I’m starting a new job so he can get toys and a bigger cage I’m trying chop for the first time today so we’ll see how it goes

There beautiful 😍 have beautiful eyes, and there talking abilities are awesome and they can be great pets but takes persistence or they can become not tame easy and quickly.

My tainu was given to me as a baby chick and he loves cuddles and he is also very talkative Most of us in southern India have had a ringneck in some part of our life

When I first glance at the title I thought it read Timid Indian "Redneck" Parrot. LoL

My IR Spyro barely makes any noise, like a squeek twice a day or less, he does not talk at all. But he is really active, so he climbs all over the cage, jumps from one perch to another and chews and destroys all his toys, ropes, wood, cardboard etc. He is on top of his cage most of the time with his toys. He is currently in his bluffing stage so he hisses inside the cage but not outside. His ring is starting to come through but it's not fully there yet (not fully black like touche) Hopefully this summer. I'm not sure how old he is though. I'm guessing around 2 yrs old. The reason why I got him is because I think these birds look beautiful and are very active.

My brother wanted a bird, so we got an Indian ringneck, his name is Clover is mischievous and he poops everywhere. He also makes a lot of noises when he wants to get out of his crate. He loves kisses and he’s very hard to get in his crate. He’s also very talkative and timid. He also makes a mess when we give him some food out of his crate.

My 4 month old IRN Sullivan is the biggest lover I've ever met. He's super playful, he's so smart, and his bluffing phase has been incredibly tame. He loves getting hugs, especially if you're lying on your back, he'll run to your face to press his chest against your cheek for a hug and kisses. It's really sweet... I have yet to be bitten by him, meanwhile, my other supposed "good starter birds" aka my blue-headed Pionus, and my cockatiel have both bitten me hard enough to draw blood. But, my motivation for getting an IRN is because they are so playful and intelligent, and their voices are very sweet obviously, but to me, I wasn't really expecting that I would get a talking bird. Just in case my bird didn't talk, it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, but I do love their sweet voices, so it's a plus for sure. Also, They're independent and self-starting, and I love that about them. I also love budgies, and since they're a parakeet, I figured it would be a similar experience. Also, they're SOooOOooOOoo cute, like... just the way they look warms my heart. I also wasn't expecting to get such a loving bird, I was more anticipating a more reserved bird who likes to hang out, but to my shock, my Sully has turned out to be such a lover, and I'm very pleased about that.

My INR is the same way! He doesn’t like to be touched! The reason I got my INR is because of they’re very social/talking ability and there appearance!

I got mine because I went to buy food for my conure and she was throwing herself at the bars of the cage she was in. It broke my heart seeing her so distressed so I bought her. We're three years down the line, she will step up onto a sleeve covered hand and will land on my knee. The only downside is she attacked my conure through the bars of his cage when she taught herself how to open up the seed trays. I adore her and in all honesty my conure speaks more than my irn.

Holy short shorts Jamie!

I got my Ring neck several months ago and she’s so sweet but so shy! She never bites and will step up but not want to stay on you and fly away soon after she’s gets on me. She likes to be near and watch us and get close but not want to sit on us. With my other birds it’s was so easy bc they love food and treats but she will not eat from you or even eat out of her bowl if you watch her. Most difficult bird I’ve ever owned shes very tricky! I want her to like me so bad!

I know have 4 Indian rings from wanting them for a long time, I love that they like to just be around and entertaining wether they talk or not or not wanting pats just wanting to be on my shoulder be Into anything that I’m doing I want to be a part of it and they’re just absolute characters I’ve also got to Cockatiel’s I have them for pats and cuddles they’re my cuddly type the birds but the ringneck are good company and entertaining

I definitely DONT have the patience to deal with the amount of fear these animals exhibit

My indian ringneck is 6 month old, and his sacond name is liberty. He hates his cage, always wants go out buting his cage, even if he stays at the cages just a few hours a day. The other time he is flying through out the house He is the same as Touche doens't line cuddles, but he like to be close to a people. He wakes up early and flies to person and starts biting ears or thumbs =) He flies as a rocket thorugh out the house. He always superactive.
