Also oh my goodness this makes SO much sense! I have a blue tongue who was never aggressive but not tame either. When Lockdown started and I needed to work from home , I set up my laptop and books next to her viv. Within a month she was scratching to come out and sit in my lap to see what I was looking at.

You were the first channel I found on YT when I started getting interested in reptiles and i knew instantly that you had an immense amount of knowledge!! I never miss a video. I can't help but wonder if this topic is a friendly response to Kamp Kenan's video yesterday where he is trying to bond with his croc monitors. I hope he gets a chance to see this 🤞🏻... if nothing else, it is a great reminder that we can all learn something from each other 💖 please make more vids like this!!

My girl was same way as you are doing...I included her in a lot of my activities and she would crawl up iny bed and lay on my shoulder and watch what I was doing and want me to love on her rub her under her chin and her back...and would even wag her tail while I was rubbing and living in her...soo sweet. Everything you say is exactly true. They learn to live as you live them and they return their affection to you as well.

What you are modeling in this video is exactly what I have always ( just intuitively) done with my parrots, my boas/pythons/kingsnakes, and in a more intellectual way, with my high school biology students. I suppose it's how we bond with our own children too.

Thank you I am going to give this a try. I bought a juvenile about 9 weeks ago and she is hissing and tail whipping and biting. However I finally got her to eat off the tongs and for the past month she stopped hiding and is out all day in her enclosure watching me. But I did take her out the other day to soak in a bath( she was shedding) and thank God I had thick snakes gloves onshe bit those gloves like 10xs. But when I brought her back to her enclosure and she was calm I put her back in. I don't want to force handle but she needed a soak. I really am going to try this with the books. Thank you, I really would love a relationship with her like you have with yours

This! I'm a new lizard owner, but before then I read as much as I physically could about bearded dragons. Since actually getting Goji (my beardie), I've learned that there's no better teacher than experience. Every lizard is an individual, especially the bigger and smarter ones, so not everything you read will apply/work out. After dropping out of school several times, I finally realized my passion is with animals! I'm dedicating all of my free time to my lizard (who i've had since october) and he's teaching me so much about love, understanding, and how knowledge can be updated! After Goji went through his first brumation, I had an epiphany and finally understood what I was doing wrong in my relationships with others... Animals are simply amazing! We live in a wonderful time, my friends! One day I'd like to meet you and shake your hand for all the wonderful work you do! (Not too great a goal, since we live in the same state!)

Over 2 years ago, I acquired 2 small leopard geckos. The former owner didn’t take proper care of them and the female ended up with MBD. I knew nothing about caring for them so I came here to YT. You were my first teacher along with other channels specific to LG. For months, I thought the female was going to die. She barely ate worms or crickets. She ended up impacted and I tried home remedies and the sticky high calorie goop in a tube along with warm baths. Today, she’s doing well. The MBD hasn’t progressed any further and she’s my chubby girl. But she looked at me as the problem. I couldn’t hold her and I clearly stressed her out. It took a lot of gentleness and patience and now I can hold her and she comes running out as soon as I go in the room. She has a little personality! I really believe she knew I was helping her heal. These animals are not stupid at all and need mental stimulation to be happy. I sing to her but I’m not sure if she appreciates it since I can’t really sing🤣 🦎

Tame lizards are still wild lizards! They are just less stressed than a lizard that fears or hates you. Simba likes story time! Showing them videos on a phone or tablet works too. Rearranging or cage maintenance gets them curious. Great video!

Great tips! I've been finding that my baby water monitor really appreciates it when I play piano even though she's still a little scared of me. I've started setting up my keyboard right next to her cage and I play for her every day. It's actually made a legit difference in her behavior.

I do something similarly to what you do ...I take mine out and sit her on my lap or ony bed and Indo crotchet..or crafts...or like you Instead books....and mine are interested in what I'm doing. As they grow and get bigger they go with me almost everywhere....they are so loving..my last girl would crawl up and lay on my neck and go to sleep while Im laying in my bed watching TV.

I think, regardless of technique, that the main thing you are doing here is demonstrating respect for the animal. As well as showing it that you are a non-threat. While I agree that it can be very easy to tame certain species of reptiles, I think it's important to remember that they do not feel/view emotions in the same way we do. Giving animals human traits, while wholesome and positive, can also spell your demise if you become too careless with the wrong species.
@Animal1Guy
@Animal1Guy Жыл бұрын
this is correct they do feel\have emotions but in their own form. that goes for all animals.

I'm glad to see you're a bit better. And all of your animals are beautiful in their own ways, and they show off how well you take care of them. And you explain things so sensibly, from the animal's point of view. You're a good role model for young people who develop an interest in reptiles and other "exotic" pets. Simba acts as if he's able to read! (I just recently read that they've discovered that elephants can read.) Just because lizards look like dinosaurs doesn't mean they are primitively stupid. And most animals are smarter than people give them credit for.

i gave up trying to find the right enclosure for my white throat and just let him have free reign in my 1 bedroom apt. mi casa has literally now be he casa. thankfully he mostly shits and pisses in the same spot everyday which is right by the front door so thats about as good as one could hope and truly what makes keeping this way possible.. they tend to shit as far away from their hide as possible so i made the front door that spot and it (usually) works like a charm.. as for his hide he sleeps like 20hrs a day in a large whicker basket thats full of some thick soft hemp rope and towels and he has a heating pad on the bottom which he must really like because hes ALWAYS in it. he comes out to bask, explore, eat and cause chaos at 6am like clockwork and goes back into his basket around 9am and thats all folks. hes a bit of a snob about his food as well eating mostly the same stuff i like(with added calcium n vitimans of course), i.e ham, turkey. beef, pork, shrimp, eggs etc and rejecting all of the stuff that i would too like insects. worms rodents etc. you learn alot this way and socialization happens naturally and quickly because im basically living in his enclosure with him (from his perspective) but obviously this is an extreme method for most and not a suitable option for obvious reasons but it has some really awesome payoffs if u ask me. for example today was the first time he voluntarily climbed up my leg all the way to the top of my head and then he just sat there chillin like he did this everyday. hahaha yesssssss. great channel btw.

Well said mate! Just a tip never locked them up teach and let them know that they are not locked that they are free. My monitor lizard moves free in my flat and he is 100% healthy physically and mentally - 0%! Also spend time with him always when u can a few hours a day. Once I have tried to lock my monitor lizard and instantly he seemed stressed and immediately he tried to get our starting scratching the glass. 23 years I am taking care of monitor lizard. They are very intelligent animals, easy to get bored, they like to explore new things like environment, food, toys & anything... Teach them to accept your flat/house as it own home never lock them. You can also teach them were to shit at one spot all the time easy to maintain and clean. For more info u can contact me the share some tips and experience. :) Your monitors look healthy, good job mate. Also you treat them as a living being character not like just the another animal. Good man!

This reminds me of my female savannah, Savvy, that passed away 2 years ago. I do miss her a lot, she was super tame and really good with kids. She had quite the personality.

@@Animal1Guy They really are. Haf her for 9 years, since she was a hatchling. And do Black Throats have like a similar temperament like a Savannah? Been thinking if I should get one or a B&W Tegu.

I need this. I had my baby out on my bed. And he was layed down and was chilling, (his name is bacon) he is going through his toddler stage, and he decided to turn around out of no were! Literally he was fully asleep and ran full force up my legs, up my stomach and bite me right on my boob. He fully latched, thankfully I gave birth to three kids breastfeed. And I just waited. After about a minute and a half he let go, and ran back down my body and went back to sleep. But the blood on my boob said other wise.

You are so caring and loving with each one or your reptiles. They all seam to adore you. I sometimes wonder how you have the time to work, take care of and spend time with each one. I love watching your videos and I don't even own any type of reptile or any pet at all right now. I've had pets in the past but never a reptile, but I love them! I wish I had the time and money for a black bearded dragon, or an Indian ring neck parrot (I watch a few of those on you tube as well). I'm glad you are better from the wreck. Any update on another vehicle? Not sure if I missed that or not. 💜💜 🦎 🦎

There's a couple of channels who got Blackthroats at the same time and they're nowhere *near* as tame as yours. Until now, the only explanation we had was "Animal1Guy is a Druid."

@@Animal1Guy I have never trained a lizard but I think comparing your trading style to Kenan's is like comparing apples and oranges. Yours are hand raised by you and loved on a quiet calm environment. Kenan's are a wilder animal that he has received as adults. A crocodile monitor is a totally different species than a savanna. Also, every animal is different.

Hand feed from the start. Keep enclosure where it can see you and whatever else is in the house (including pets) constantly.

@@Animal1Guy Right. That's true. I've fed mine from the start by hand, very little hiding spots, and I have the enclosure on the floor in the middle of the living room. Mine fears literally nothing now. Not even the dogs and cats. Lol Only 6 months old. Mines personality can even compete with NERDS "socialized babies". Lol I have some videos on here showing his/her progress.

You might remember a few exchanges we've had in past comments sections about cats being "furry lizards" and their similarities. Continuing on that idea: 1)Other than perhaps fanning the pages at them, the rest of this advice would absolutely work with cats! 2)In the same vein of cats being attracted to people who dislike them(because they're being ignored), have you found lizards to show the same behavior? Lastly, this brought to mind an idea for a video that I think you might like to do in pursuit of educating us about these wonderful creatures - What NOT to do around them, i.e. what spooks them, scares them, or could cause a defensive or even aggressive response. Just thought it could be good information for new caretakers and perhaps their friends and family - like loud noises, quick movements/actions, perhaps strong fragrances/perfumes(?), etc. Thanks again for the great content, from a "furry lizard" caretaker and fan!
