Having done several hundreds of feet of 90 degree inside corners, I've found the quickest and most efficient way is to load your mud on the center of the angle tool and make several passes at varying angles to apply and clean the extra away. Of course you'll need a 6" to clean the areas the angle tool can't clean to achieve the optimum feather. Apply with a light angle to the wall and clean with an increasing sharper angle. The key is obviously keeping the number of passes low and an even spread rate. Practice makes perfect.

Thanks so much for your vids .l am replacing a shower with a tub and having to replace half the Sheetrock on two walls. I use mesh tape on inside corners and found it to turn out well for me. Your vids have helped me greatly on the muddling. Hanging Sheetrock is easy , but muddling is an art. Have a large bedroom that has to be sheetrocked. I think I’ll hire a professional to do it. Just to save my own sanity. You have a nice day. 🤪

The angle tool ...its good especially for putting the tape on...on 2nd coat it's only ok that's my experience and I am not an expert! Tends to leave lines on 2nd coat where you'll have to smooth out with your flat knife as you mentioned. Drywall takes so much skill I'm surprised that anyone wants to try it especially larger jobs!

Michael, coating both sides is definitely tricky. I prefer to do one side at a time myself, but sometimes need to do both at once, so no harm in doing one side at a time. Patience is a good thing in this trade when you are learning the skills. 😎👣

I am glad I could help. I honestly really dislike the flex bead you’re talking about with the metal strips for the inside corners. And it’s really not necessary. Love ur videos thank u so much for the help…. What u find the best consistency for the mud to be for taping and corners? I’m doing my home myself and I did really good but I must of added too much water to plus 3 cause it was constantly falling everywhere lol… some people say sour cream some say mix it just a little water and keep it peanut butter consistency Yours seems a little on the thicker side but also looks so much easier to handle… again thank you and God bless
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
yogurt and pancake batter come in all consistencies so I don’t like to use that reference too much. When doing handwork basically you want it as thick as you can easily work it without it dripping all over. If it’s fighting you too much, thin it down. If it’s dripping too much, you probably over thinned it. The thinner it is, the more it shrinks and the less it adheres.

You might have covered this in another video, but...I'm starting on finishing my wife's bathroom. I gutted the walls after a walk-in tub install, and put up all new sheet rock (moisture-resistant), and am now ready to tape and mud. My question is, after I'm done prepping the walls per your videos, and covering the screw holes, which seams do I go after first? Do the inside corners, THEN the recessed joints, and finally the butt joints??? OR do I finish the recessed and butt joints first, and then finish up with the inside corners? Thank you in advance. Glad I found your channel, as it has made pretty plain the steps involved in doing this work. Hanging sheet rock has never been an issue for me, but finishing seems to me to be an art that has been beyond me. Your videos have helped make it clearer; it remains to be seen if my skill level will come up to where it needs to be.

What happens if you are retapping a ceiling after removing the textured paint and the walls are still painted. Do you need to sand/scrape the paint off the wall and feather over the top or just mud it to be level with the paint then feather and then repaint… if that makes sense.

if one wall is textured and the other wall is new drywall, do I need to sand down the painted, textured wall by the width of the tape, in order to have a clean install?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY

No, just sand it so the mud sticks better, refinish, and feather the edge well on the old textured side. I show feathering in most all my repair videos.

Hi, I'm seeing most of this is for drywall. My issue, I have a historical home that the inside walls are either drywall or plaster and the outside walls are cement. Usually after you mud it. But you can caulk most anytime. Just allow it to dry before the next step, and if you caulk after you paint, it may show if the color is different. 👣
