Thanks for a great class and instruction. I'm 67 years old been blacksmithing for years Thanks for reminding me about doubling the hammer angle it becomes second nature but you forget to mention that when trying to teach someone. So thanks again, awesome job young man.

As soon as I started blacksmithing I could tell it was important to get good at tapering. I started practicing my tapers on 3/8 and 1/2 inch rebar. Pretty soon I figured out I could turn the tapers into coat hooks without too much trouble and it really upped my excitement about "practicing" because now I was making something someone would like to have.

I have been watching videos for sometime this is the first educational taper video I have seen and actually got it your skills for explaining the technique has been far superior than all the other videos I have watched thank you again.

Do you think drawing out off the edge of the anvil would be a good way to make a nail?

When practicing my tapering I am continuing to get this "fish mouth" look at the end of the stock. Am I hitting at the wrong angle to get a clean taper?

Sounds like you are flattening one end instead of tapering remember to keep the stock at an almost 45 degree while striking at around 30 degree angle with your hammer
