Thank you so much! Our baby (6months) spends around 90 mins a day on the floor (spread apart) but most of the day on a swing that he loves. He is not in a sitting position in this swing, but rather an inclined resting/laying position similar to a baby car seat. Is the swing recommended?
@friendlykiddoc8796
@friendlykiddoc8796 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebeca. I appreciate your feedback. Although many babies enjoy the baby swings, it's recommended to limit the use of baby gear like that to around 30 minutes a day. It's great that your son already does around 90 minutes a day doing play time on the floor. Now that he is 6 months, hopefully you can get him to do more activities sitting on his own, crawling or doing tummy time, rather than being in baby gear. The time a baby spends in baby gear limits the time the baby could be spending exploring and learning from their environment, and strengthening developmental skills.

Thank you for the video, very informative. I am also glad that you mention about the baby sits, unfortunately I see so often people using it in videos and recommending it. They have no idea about the danger to babys motor development and how it can affect the babys spine and back muscle, since they are not strong enough to hold the back, it can compress the spine. :)

@friendlykiddoc8796

Thank you for watching this video. Tummy time exercises should be started in the baby's first month. The other exercises are usually better tolerated by the baby when they can hold their head up more steady, which typically is around 4 months of age.

Hi, do you have any tips for my 5 month old who seems ready to sit, she does the tripod position but she still randomly kicks her legs and throws her head back so I am constantly to scared to step back so she can practice more. Does that go away when she’s ready?
@friendlykiddoc8796

Yes it’s common for babies to kick or lean back, and then fall over from the tripod position. I encourage sitting the baby of a thick blanket on the floor or play mat, and then surround the baby with pillows

Hi i found ur video may baby is 7 months and a week today and is still unable to sit straight. Should i be worried that she is still unable to sit straight even with support at this phase?

I appreciate you seeking my input. There is no need to worry about your baby not sitting straight yet at 7 months. All babies develop at their own pace, and some need more time to master the ability to sit straight. Continue to give your baby time every day to practice.

I sit behind her and put a toy infront of her while she is sitting and leaning on me. Then while she's busy i slowly move backwards (just 2 or 3 inches making sure she's not leaning on me anymore but keeping te distance incase she realizes it and starts panicking. My baby is 8 months old and when sitting on the floor with him, his back turned towards me, it only lasts a couple minutes before he’s arching his legs and back against me and is sliding on his back to roll. He isn’t crawling he rolls to get to place to place and has good head control and neck strength but he won’t sit up long enough. He does use a sit me up seat and has since 4 months old but sitting up unassisted is still a challenge, he just slides down on his back and wants to roll.

@friendlykiddoc8796
@friendlykiddoc8796 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching this video. I recommend doing the exercise slower, and instead of you pulling the baby up, allow your hands to serve as support that the baby can use as an anchor to pull himself up against. Think of this exercise as you having your baby doing abdominal crunches. This way the baby is engaging the muscles in his arms and core, and the exercise is more effective in helping to strengthen those muscles. Doing it slower will probably also help with getting the baby to go into a sitting position instead of standing. Most babies are not able to support their own body weight on their legs without having a lot of support until around 7 to 9 months.

I have seen some babies try to sit as early as 5 months. But at that age they sit in the tripod position, sitting with their body bent forward and hands resting on the floor in front of them. Most babies are able to sit in the tripod position by around 6 months, and then sit without support around 7 months. Also it's usually only after 7 months that babies are able to get themselves into the sitting position from a lying position.

@friendlykiddoc8796
@friendlykiddoc8796 3 жыл бұрын
Marta thank you for your question. It’s okay if the baby starts to try to go into the crawling position when you sit her down. Keep giving her opportunities to practice sitting. Get a toy or object that your baby really likes. Hold it a little out of reach at her face level or a little above after you sit her down. This wash as she focuses on it, you can keep her in the sitting position a little longer. It takes time and practice, but your baby will get there.
