After tearing out 12 overgrown boxwoods this past weekend, I want to offer everyone a timesaving method to tear out landscaping quickly and easily.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have about 9 of them that were affected by boxwood blight this year. I already was able to cut back 2 with no problem. I will have my son dig them out. A landscaper wanted $2300 to do this... I would rather pay my son and for far less plus a dinner! Thanks again.

Thank you. I was just using my backhoe before and it didn't work out so great. I hit the basement wall with the bucket and I got a pretty big leak into the basement due to the rain. My wife had been sorting out the family pictures and they were all over the basement floor when that happened. Well, she got pretty mad at me and said some things that she probably regrets now. Anyway, her attorney was able to get her a pretty good settlement and now those bushes are her problem. So, I am saving up for a new house, which is kind of tough because the alimony payments are pretty stiff, and I will definitely use this method when I have to remove some old, overgrown boxwood hedges.

Thanks for posting this video man! I was thinking about renting a chainsaw but now just realize I can cut low and pull. Never occurred to me!

I have a good bit of wild shrubs and those skinny leafy plants taking over the chain link fence where I live. Any suggestions on how to deal with it quickly and effectively? I've tried the sprays. I have even cut the stuff away multiple times. It is all the result of the county not trimming up the side of the road.

I did not have a pickup truck at the time this video was made. So, this is an easy way to tear out bushes if you do not have a pickup truck.

For less back breaking you should try a chain and a farm jack. It can take it out in less than 10 minutes.

We have an entire hedgerow to get rid of...probably around 50 total... not looking forward to this at all. Moved to this home recently in late Feb. Now the hedgerow is all leafed out and makes it difficult, near impossible to see traffic as we back out of our garage, so they have to go.

Yes, tearing out bushes can hurt your back. Use your legs as much as possible and not your back.

I just dig them out without cutting. boxwoods have a very shallow root system. They dig out fairly easy. takes 1/4th the time and energy than cutting them for no reason. If you insist on cutting them I'd use a sawsall. I got a for $20 at pawn shop or ask a friend or neighbor to borrow one

I cut them to be able to more easily get to the root for digging. Cutting them takes very little time.

After tearing out bushes, I took them to the local dump. If I didn't have too many, I out them one if my trash cans.

That tool is not a hedge trimmer, it is a lopper. It can be used for hedge roots, but is primarily used to cut branches.

OMG.. Get a shovel and dig it up!! Who would have ever thought of that? Better keep this a secret!! 😂🤡

I have some land with hundreds of these but no access for a digger - any suggestions? Impossible by hand.

Can you get a heavy duty log chain and pull them out with a pickup truck?
@fayrayrita22234 жыл бұрын
They're called loppers

Use a farmjack to pull out those nubs. 5 minutes of work, no joke.
@mturner20038 жыл бұрын
Way too much work. Log chain and a pickup make short work of these.
@davidrhead874010 ай бұрын
sorry disagree you need to leave main stems on so when youve dug around you have some leverage.
@BENOITLENOIR10 ай бұрын
I can see what you're saying but for me it was easier to cut the main stems off so that I could see what I was doing underneath. Then it was pretty easy for me to pop the root ball out of the ground with my shovel.
@davidrhead874010 ай бұрын
obviously depends on the shrub and they way the roots grow,enjoyed the video@@BENOITLENOIR
