Three summers ago I went to look at a chrome bumper MGB. Clean, no rust, but had been sitting for years. Parked next to it was a red Ferrari 308 with a broken timing belt. It had broken while sitting at a stop light, so maybe not much broken? Anyway, the seller had passed on and the daughter just "wanted her garage space back". Price? $15K And nope, didn't have the cash...

I got a deal I thought was a scam back in the pre internet days. Back then you would just show up and get robbed. It wasn't a high end car, value was around $18k and the seller had it listed for $4,000 from an original price of $15k. I showed up armed to the teeth with backup also armed to the teeth in case things went South. Turns out the lady had ordered a new car planning to sell the old one before the new car arrived and being in GM country in the early 90's, no one wanted this Nissan. Her new car arrived and her credit wouldn't handle both cars so the Nissan had to go before she could get the new one. She was down to her last 48 hours before the dealership called off the deal on the new car. I ended up paying the $3,754 she owed on the Nissan and taking it home.

I had a Similar situation happen with my current daily. It's a 08 Nissan xterra 6SPD, the guy was asking $6800 and said he was moving out of country in a week and needed to sell asap. Had really sketchy description too like "absolutely tank in the snow" " this is a unit to drive". I was nervous but called since the car was only 15 min away and surprisingly the guy answered his phone but he was already out of the country. He said I could go meet his brother and check the car out so I did and ended up buying the car for $4500. I've drove the car for 1.5 years now putting 25k miles on it with 0 problems. Best car I've had yet and I managed to pay half of the kbb at the time of purchase from a owner in Taiwan. Man was I nervous but it paid off!!

The operation you described at the start with the closed or smaller lot is something my stepdad fell for. Had a legit website, cars that checked out, they even had a "physical location" on google maps that checked out. The google listing for this address had their phone number and email on it, everything. They'd somehow completely hijacked this dealers online presence, using promotions to put the link to their copy of the dealers website above the legit one. Calling the dealer off the google listing led to the fake dealer, and after our money was gone I managed to get in contact with the real dealer, who'd been fighting the hijacking for a minute now. Smaller dealer.

Man that is 100% what happened to me! Dealer closed, someone got their number and a license so everything looked legit. Car was 20% less than others like it (Audi S8+). I didnt PDI (because stupid) and now I am out $43,000. Turned out to be 23 Russians and the FBI has caught them.

There are two or three dealers in the Metro Phx area that are known scammers. One guy had 4-5 different dealerships, and he'll take your car in on trade for another high-end used car, but will 'forget' to pay off your existing loan or resell it and not give the new owner a title (because it still has your loan on it).

It’s sad they don’t even do it on highend cars I almost tried to buy a mr2 that costs around 6k here for 3k and they had a dealer account but if you called the dealers number it said this place is closed and they now use it for Facebook scams

Thanks for this video, a few days ago came across a listing on facebook marketplace and the person said that exact thing pay using 'Paypal VAD' or something and we'll ship the car to you and if you dont like it you can just give it back.

When i see a deal ive been suspicious of. I try and reverse image search and a lot of times i can see if its been posted already, or if it seems like the pictures were stolen from another ad.

A few other things that are red flags in the response email: "Due to injuries I sustained in the military I can't talk on the phone." "I accept your counter offer. (After only sending will you take x?)" "The car will be shipped via US Military aircraft as it is over seas with me where I am stationed." "eBay will guarantee the transaction."

Curiously enough I think the airport he's talking about in Maine is actually 10 mins from my house. I frequent car meets and other general car forums in my area and this car has never come up. Has probably been in that hanger for a long time. Also fun fact, John Travolta frequently flies up to that airport.

In January of 2017 I got a 2012 Volvo XC60 T6 with 100k miles for $12,975 from a local dealer. KBB listed the value at $20,500 and NADA listed it at $21,500. It's been great to me and now has 207k after becoming a part time Uber car.

Actually I just had a similar deal a couple weeks ago I found a 1966 Chevy Belair with a very solid body even with a the little rust it had the value of the car was double what the seller was asking for it. I drove two and a half hours to look at this thing and had to have it because I was sure it wouldn’t be there tomorrow

lol legitimate question: what if I am actually overseas and have a car in the US I'm considering selling? I've made a couple attempts before but (for obvious reasons) everyone thinks I'm a scammer. I moved to Czech Republic to work in MotoGP, but am an American with a car in the US that I may sell, and friends/family that could arrange viewings. Are there recommended strategies to show people it is a real listing, especially during communication?
