Your video on Basal Cell Carcinoma is what made me realize that I had one right near me eye (I had it for several years and thought it was dry skin or an irritated blood vessel). I went to a derm, got a diagnosis, and got Moh's surgery to have it removed. It was quite an ordeal. I needed plastic surgery to prevent a scar. Thank you for all that you do, Dr. Dray!

@@DrDrayzday Dr. Dray, in non-sun exposed skin like genitals, how does a person bring that up to a dermatologist? (This is a real question). Does a person with non-sun exposed skin moles, do you bring those up to the dermatologist? Or primary care? Or OBgYN? My provider only has male dermatologists and I simply didn't bring this up when I had my last full body skin check.

After your melanoma video, I noticed a new large mole on my husband's back. He resisted going to the doctor but I convinced to at least go to a primary care provider and get a referral for a derm. PCP got concerned and took pictures of the mole and sent it to a dermatologist in the network and they were able to see my husband right away. They removed the large flat dark mole and the biopsy came back as a stage 0 melanoma! He had to go back to the derm and get more cut out to have cancer free margins. We now are super vigilant about sun protection and use hats and UPF clothing together with sunscreen. I am SO grateful for your videos, Dr Dray! Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have paid attention to my husband's back and I shutter to think what would have happened in a few months/years.

My husband had a mole that was suspicious (7) yrs ago diagnosed .Melanoma. so it was exceeded, margins were clear ..Fast forward 2022. My husband had severe headaches, large brain tumor removed,, he also had a tumor behind his heart , one in his lung , ,and one in his pancreas. He was once again diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Malignant Melanoma. He's had radiation to his brain, fifteen month's of Immunotherapy. We were completely shocked to say the least. My husband is a bodybuilder and has always been physically fit his entire life . .We are going through a very difficult time .Melanoma is no joke .

I had melanoma in my 20's on this tiny mole in my back that had gone from light brown to pitch black. I wore spf 50 and stayed in the shade for my whole youth. It was a miracle I even saw it because I never stare at my back in the mirror. Be vigilant everybody.

Thanks Dr. Dray!! Everyone reading this: PLEASE pay attention to anything 'new' on your body! A few months ago I had a rather large area of melanoma removed from the side of my face...fair, red hair, older... We did not have sunscreen when I was young and as a child, spent a lot of time outside & experienced many, many sunburns. I had been having regular skin checkups every 6 months or so ... My melanoma did not present itself as a dark mole like growth but simply like an area of hyper pigmentation (a very large, light freckle) that was going away! When a small patch of 'dry skin' appeared in the middle of this area, I went to the dermatologist for a biopsy (I previously have had squamous cell carcinoma that presented as a no color, flaky dry patch so I thought it was another occurrence). The biopsy came back as a very low grade melanoma and I was fortunate to be able to have MOHS surgery and a flap reconstruction! Please do not be afraid to get anything suspicious checked and be vigilant & advocate for yourself. The human body has an amazing ability to heal and it's amazing how quickly the surgery wounds fade! As Dr. Dray mentioned, the sooner you discover a cancer, the better the treatment options & outcome. God Bless!! :)

I'm in my 70s and have many spots removed from face and body. Some were benign atypical moles, some were precancerous. One freckle on my leg turned out to be melanoma. I recently had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my face. I'm now paying the price of getting sunburned as a kid and tanning at the beach as a teen before we learned about the importance of wearing sunscreen.

Skin care, everywhere, down there, matters. Initially, my gynaecologist noticed changes that have needed to be addressed. If you don't feel comfortable asking your GP or Dermatologist to check the bikini area, please consider asking your gynaecologist to check the area, front and back. Thank you, Dr Dray for providing the opportunity for me to comment in this space. This is a vulnerable and extremely private topic and I rarely comment online but I am doing so in the hope that this helps someone out there to be brave and take care of themselves. Our bodies and our lives are a gift :)

Anyone who is a carer (or has been a carer) please keep on top of your own health needs & medical tests, including dermatology visits. Even if it's just an online appointment. If you need to go to the doctors office, it's the time to take up any kind offers that friends or family have made, so that can take over the your caring duties for for a couple of hours. It's been two years since my husband passed away and I'm still trying to catch up on routine check up appointments & specialist visits, as the waiting lists are quite often long. 👱🏻♀️♥️

I just saw an ad for the Glow Recipe’s new sunscreen. It’s $30 for 0.05 ounces. It’s time for companies to bring down the price! I don’t care what they charge for their other products. But we need quality and pleasant products that people will wear and can afford.

I go for a yearly skin check by the dermatologist. Had something very small on my face and had a MOHS procedure. Sunscreen.... check your skin... sunscreen... check your skin. It's important.

My first basal cell was a small pimple that would bleed, heal, and then bleed again. Then had a spot on my nose that was biopsied twice by one dermatologist. Changed to another dermatologist who diagnosed it as basal cell and had the mohs done. So watch those recurring sores especially if your childhood was in Florida before sunscreen.

A basal cell carcinoma was finally diagnosed after I had it for 15 years and 3 doctors said it was not anything to worry about. It was the same color as my skin, no more than 2 mm in diameter, perfectly symmetrical and in my nasolabial fold on my face. The dermatologist who biopsied it was one of the 3 doctors who dismissed it. After I expressed my concerns and she did a full body check she changed her mind. Ultimately I had Mohs surgery and it was removed on the first round. It was not painful and my scar is well hidden in the fold. If you are concerned, speak up, and push. I now question everything.

I had skin cancer. It looked like nothing more than a small rash over on the side of myface. I thought it was an allergic reaction to my headphones. When in doubt see a dermatologist, they don't look like you think they look and even doctors get it wrong. I am being neuroendocrine cancer at the time and was walking around with a 2cm/1inch cancerous mark on my face and not one of the 3 oncologists and 2 gps I saw in that time ever noticed or mentioned it. See a dermatologist or a NP that specializes in them.

This was very good information. I had one of the experiences you spoke about. My hands raiser saw a spot in the bowl of my ear. So I had it checked by my doctor and they had a biopsy. It came back normal. I had it checked a couple of times and they finally sent it to a different lab that found it was cancerous, and I had Mohs surgery They did a small graft from under the ear on my neck and everything is fine now. I go yearly for skin check ups.

@@jenm6476 I’m trying a lot of them 🤦🏼♀️ new rabbit hole I wish I had gone down years ago. Elta md has a balm with spf on Amazon. I think it’s 2 tubes for 33$. Mdsolarsciences has one in colors. I like the slight color with shimmer I’m waiting on the Rodan and fields one to release. I’m getting a sample this weekend. I use a lot of medical grade skincare but I really like some of their products.

@@SGSG-jf1wu yes. Definitely get it checked. Scc (squamous cell carcinoma) is common on the lower lip and is 11X more dangerous (metastasis) per Google. The dermatologist didn’t tell me that. I googled it. She just said let’s biopsy and cross that bridge if we have to. Just wanted to clarify where my info is coming from.

I’d like to incorporate a Vit C into my routine and there’s even more affordable ones on Amazon as low as $10 such as Skin 2.0 and Eve Naturals to name a couple but I’m curious on your opinion. I couldn’t find any reviews on those from you. Have you tried/heard of them and if so, what’s your thoughts on efficacy? Thanks!

My sister-in-law had a scaly patch on her temple for a year. My brother kept urging her to see a doctor, by the time she went,they had to remove a large area of her forehead. She wears her hair long to cover her scar.

I have been getting yearly skin check. I had a tiny little shiny spot near my eye Not a mole no color just a tiny shiny spot. It turns out it was a BCC. I just had Moh’s surgery a few weeks ago. Not a fun time.

I have a question for you. I had a mole removed years ago on my back. It was also "burned" (I'm sorry, I can't spell the proper word). Several years later, my back started itching really bad and my entire back was covered in moles. They seem to come and go , depends on my stress level. I never know when they will appear so making a doctor apt doesn't seem to be an option. Any suggestions?

I have burned every summer until about 15 yrs ago. I am in my 40s and pay for it by “age spots” which is slightly raised causing me to feel I want to cover them. I am also thinking about having a spot near my eye and on my back checked. Though they are not super noticeable in color but they are rough.

I have a tiny pink lump at the side of my nose which sprung up about 6 months ago. (I'm 40, white, UK). Looks possibly like a Basal Cell Carcinoma. Am sure my GP would laugh me out of the surgery (if I can get an NHS appt) so probs will have to pay for a private dermatologist.

I do a full body thermography scan for cancer and other systems review annually. It’s read by a regular doctor. It’s also replaced my mammogram and is noninvasive. Can’t recommend enough.

I worked for an integrative physician and we saw multiple patients receive cancer diagnoses whose thermograms had not detected them. Please do more research and continue getting mammograms.

Thank you! As I do do research, follow-up questions would be how long since thermography? Only one? Any type exam must continue annually and changes can happen in between. Thermo won’t pick up precancerous like a biopsy. But neither will just a physical exam.

I have a question... I'm not exactly concerned it's a melanoma, but it just makes me super curious and I couldn't find an answer googling. So, I occasionally have this weird, kind of oval shaped bump, on EXACTLY the same spot on my chest, looks like a mosquito or bug bite (just a bit larger), it comes and goes away (pretty quickly), I just notice it when it starts to itch a little. At first I thought it really was a bug bite, but then I noticed it repeatedly appears on the exact same spot, how weird...

If you could answer me this I would be really appreciative. Why is it so hard for me to get a doctor to refer me to a dermatologist, you can only get a dermatologist around here with a referral, I don't have a family doctor because she passed away and I've seen like several different doctors at the clinic and the hospital and they just won't do it. What's the deal with that ? It's a known thing around here anyway

It just got to the point where even the doctors that I have a very good and personal relationship with or just like any other doctor I'll have like the same response for they just kind of beat around the bush and don't want to do it and it just seems so odd they don't explain why they're just kind of like I don't know but thank you very very much, people like you make KZfaq a good place, you're sincerely a wonderful person

I had a big cyst on the front side of my neck. Luckily not cancer. I didn’t thought much of it and were busy with my studies and internship so I let it grow for about half a year before going to the doctors. Had a surgery to get it all removed. Luckily it wasn’t a bad cyst. But don’t wait to long people 🙏🏻🩵🌊

My mom and sister visit the tanning salon weekly and no matter how much I tell them its bad for them. They just tell me I worry to much. It makes no sense to me since two of our family members have stage 4 cancers and another passed from cancer a few months ago.
