Beginning with model year 2018, Toyota Camry models with 2.5 liter engines come equipped with an electric coolant (water) pump. The electric coolant pump is controlled by the engine control module (ECM).
The ECM varies pump speed and coolant delivery, determined by engine temperature and driving conditions. It is used in conjunction with the electric thermostat to maintain and control engine temperature as needed. The electric coolant pump allows a variable amount of coolant to be circulated in the cooling system at any given time.
In this video we’re going to show you how to determine good scan tool values as well as electrical circuit function.
Fault codes like: P26CA Engine Coolant Pump Control Circuit
This video also includes the electrical specifications, voltage values, circuit current values, as well as known good waveforms of each electrical circuit for the electric water pump.
Scope connection info:
Terminal 1 is battery positive supply from the EFI relay - Scope channel 1
We are measuring pump current around the red feed wire for terminal 1 on scope channel 2
Terminal 2 is SWP Pump Drive Duty - Scope Chanel 3
Terminal 3 is chassis ground - We’ve voltage drop tested this independently.
Terminal 4 is battery positive supply from the EFI relay - We won’t be monitoring this channel
Terminal 5 is NWP Pump Speed - Scope channel 4
Terminal 6 is chassis ground - We’ve voltage drop tested this independently.
