I will show you how to diagnose your motor drive system on your Whirlpool Cabrio or any similar washer model that has a stator motor with a rotor and gear case. These are simple tests you can perform yourself. You will only need a multimeter that reads Ohms

Have you ever opened one of these units to expose the internal planetary gear box? I've opened them completely and revealed after removal of old grease inspection of plastic gears and repack with new grease. It's ridiculous to buy the whole unit just because the seals have went out allowing water to leak. You can however get the tub seal and inner agitator shaft seal online with a little searching. I got the small wash plate shaft seal from autozone for 3 bucks the tub seal took some extensive research to locate even with part number on seal but it was direct from whirlpool fir about 30 bucks. Bad thing is when tub seal failure happens it tends to fry the stator from water shortage. Poor design flaw imo but saved myself a couple hundred bucks

Finally. Someone who actually talks and explains what we're looking at. Is the gear case rebuildable ? I see rebuild kits on Amazon. Are they worth it?

Absolutely worth it but this particular one in the video is not serviceable nor do they offer just the seals for sale. I however refuse to pay for the entire unit when seals are the only failure it took some looking but was able to find the tub seal direct from whirlpool and used calipers fir wash plate seal dimensions and got it from autizone for 3 bucks the tub seal was close to 30 bucks. I even opened the case to expose the planetary inside as well as opened it up for inspection. It was fine other than rusty grease witch I replaced with new before sealing the "non serviceable " unit back together and installed it without issues. Someone makes those internal plastic gears as well and I'm sure with a little more looking g I could locate the manufacturer of those gears as well as aftermarket steel gears mire than likely. Just remember where there's a will there's a way and closed mouths don't get fed lol

Should the shafts of the gear case turn freely in both the clockwise and anticlockwise directions?

Does anyone have a old junk "gearcase" laying around that they would do an experiment on for me?? I believe you can knock the shaft out and replace the bearings,but the gearcase i have is still working and i don't wanna trash it in case i am wrong. Youd want to get a socket that only contacts the larger main shaft and beat on the bottom end where the motor goes and in the direction of the tub. The bottom bearing i believe is a 6006z and costs $15 and id bet the top bearing is probably the same one,so if i am right we could rebuild these cases for around $35 or less and save the $200+ cost of buying a new gearcase.

The main control board could cause a failure in spinning as well.

What about the clutch? I'm having an issue with the slider not engaging. I put on a new clutch and still no luck. Tub won't spin. I replaced the ACU and clutch.

@@solidsnake6405 Yes, It was the damn clutch slider... if you look closely to the part that he is spinning at 6:13 it has white dots around it, those plastic dots hold that black piece together... the black piece stripped from the white part causeing the no spin issue... there was no sign of wear until I took it completly off and it fell apart. Easy fix, lesson learned... but that piece is really made poorly... for the amount of weight it has to engage... poor design.
