How to Thrive on 3 Hours Sleep: Ancient Yogic Method

Thrive on 3 hours sleep? Really?
Yes-according to David Shannahoff-Khalsa, mind-body researcher and author of Sacred Therapies. He recounts in his book at the age of 26:
“After 90 days of perfect night-to-night practice for 15 minutes immediately before bed, I was sleeping from only 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.”
The yogic sleep technique is attributed to Ram Dass and Yogi Bhajan who were prominent spiritual leaders during the 60’s counterculture.
Bhajan claimed that this technique can increase the initial time spent in stage 4 non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and alter the central nervous system (CNS) to support a more efficient, deeper, and restorative sleep.
Bhajan popularized Kundalini Yoga in the US, although he should be taken with a grain of salt based on recent controversy of his conduct revealed in a recently published book called Premka, authored by one of his top students.
Nonetheless, there may be some legitimacy to the technique based on anecdotal reports and the fact that there’s superhuman feats going on in the east that most Westerners aren’t aware of.
Like the kaihogyo monks in Japan who run 84 kilometers for 100 consecutive days, then 30km per day for 100 more days, all with very little food and sleep.
Direct experience is the ultimate measure of truth, so if you’re up for the challenge, watch the video!

Not really, no. Meditation is not sleeping. You are usually wide awake during meditation. You try to concentrate on one specific thing or even on nothing, which ist still some sort of concentration, even though with our language this seems a bit contradictory. But in reality its not, youre still focusing youre mind, even if it is on nothing. Meditating is an active process. While there is a passive form of meditation, it is more for beginners or lay people and for them even a passive meditation is usually challenging. But you have to be awake in any case, because otherwise you just sleep ^^ Which is not a bad thing, you cant fail youre meditation. if you fall asleep you needed some sleep, so thats just something positive in the end.

@@JonesP77 Normally I would agree, but the Buddha explicitly practiced "the cessation of perception and feeling", sometimes called "Nirodha" - I am unsure how rested that state leaves you. - for "normal" meditation I agree of course

It's about deep sleep without dream, where you yourself are not aware whether you are alive or not. There are Yogi's who do this and perfectly fine with it. Little knowledge is very dangerous what more dangerous is jumping ok conclusion without inquiring on your level

Ah common man, this isn't scientific at all... There is probably something to say about extremely experienced meditators being able to induce brain activity that strongly resembles rem and deep sleep whilst meditating, but we're talking about people who have meditated in the order of thousands to ten thousand hours! Perhaps the time spent in those meditative states could even be more restorative than the same amount of time in sleep itself, but it's silly to think 15 mins will replace 5-6 hours!

@@rAF-jz1yn if a person lives 90 years he lives 90 years, and the first qoute is not true at all because people who sleep less than 6 hours a day will most likely die before 65. Even if they sleep 12 h a day at least they are not stressed out(biggest cause of stress is lack of food and sleep).

Stop degrading the validity and respect of science by attaching it to some bullshit self proclaimed Yogi and Godman. That man has nothing to do with science. He'll just extrapolate a single point to a fucking passage and try and sound profound. He is nothing more than any other godman in India. It's just that he is well versed and can speak really good english. Just because you are blind in faith doesn't mean everyone else has to be. Educate yourself and stop being a bhakt. If he is the only man you look up to you need to find better mentors in life my friend. Don't believe everything you see on the internet. Reality is often disappointing.
