Tying skates properly is a fundamental of skating; there's a reason why that scene in Yuri on Ice with Viktor tying Yuri's skates was significant to their character arks, because getting it wrong could lead to discomfort, falls, and potentially injury. To be honest, this is a reserve video I had, since the video I planned to upload today wasn't done in time (sorry about that).
Also, don't worry, I managed to pick up my sister from her bus in time :)
Anyways, I hope you have a lovely day!

I too have flat, wide feet due to fallen arches. Rental skates are PAINFUL because of it

Rentals are the worst😭 but I like having to put in insoles ‘cause it makes me feel half an inch taller😂

@@Hazook I definitely need to get me some insoles, the rentals dig into my arch in the wrong place and sometimes I have to stop skating because I'm in so much pain. I just don't know where to buy them XD (which is slang for I haven't looked lmao). I was lowkey kinda worried my funky feet would hold me back, but you're clearly an amazing skating despite it so that's good to see.

If you go to any shoe-retailer, they should have insoles for flat feet. My favourites are the small ones that go just in the heel because they don’t make shoes pinch but they lessen pain a fair bit (at least for me). They’re worth the twenty-thirty dollars and you can just swap them between your shoes and skates so you don’t have to buy a bunch!

@@Hazook Thanks so much for the tip! I'll make sure to take a look next time a go shopping, I've heard that having flat feet can really wear on the boot as well, so hopefully adding insoles will make them last longer as well as reducing pain.

So interesting!! I feel like with my inlines - RiSport RF3 Pro - I'm in this terrain where the skates are super hard, yet I love when my foot really feels 100% supported, so I hurt my fingers tying my skates on a regular basis :D

Figure skating and nerdfigtheria? Yeah! 🤘 Also - high five from a fellow fresh Jackson-premiere-fusion boot owner. I got them at the beginning of the month, with PIC frames. My crying ankles are sending good wishes to your ankles 😅. Apart from the higher stiffness rating I'm having the same problem with where the ankle sits on the padding. But I bought bunga pads - and let me tell you - they're not cheap, but it's a good investment - huge difference right away with the ankle pain (helpful tip: I just cut one in half and it's a perfect fit for my ankles). In my excitement and worry about transitioning from ice to pavement I totally also didn't think about the heat molding option. But in my case I do think I'll go get it done, the stiffness is 20 points higher than my skates and it shows 😬 Love your videos! DFTBA!

No way, a fellow nerdfighter AND the same boots?! I think I'll get bunga pads then, I'm sure my ankles will thank me in the long run!😂 I think part of the pain came from the break-in process though, I've skated about 10 hours in them and they're getting a little less painful (either that or my ankles are losing feeling haha). DFTBA!🖖🏼

I know this video is old now but if youre still having ankle pain try bunga pads. They will help you both with the ankle pain and the Achilles pressure.

I’ll have to look into those! Most of the pain went away after I broke them in properly, but if I skate too long I get that pain again😥

Thank you! I actually made them with some stretchy fabric (I think yoga pants?) that I bought from a thrift store, but most figure skate shops should carry them!

I used to struggle with my laces coming out of the last eyelet as I pulled on them until a friend told me to make knot right at the top of the lace, before the stiff part (there’s a name for it but I forgot it) to prevent that from happening and it was a game changer. Have you ever actually worn your black boots as regular shoes?
@Hazook
@Hazook 3 жыл бұрын
An aiglet! And yes, tying a knot on my first pair (the black ones) really helped because I did the same thing! Sadly, I haven't worn them outside yet, the terrain where I live is a little too rough. Since the soles were intended primarily for indoor use, I'm a little scared to make them brave the harsh Canadian winter sidewalks😂

@@Hazook 20 years ago we were contemplating moving to Canada but the harsh winters discouraged us. We live in a city in Mexico called Metepec with very mild weather. It’s neither too hot nor too cold albeit a bit dry during winter and early spring.

That sounds lovely! I love Canada but the weather tends to be a bit of a bummer most of the time😂

@@Hazook I hear you only have 2 seasons, winter and construction 😉 I visited BC and Alberta in early spring and Toronto during the summer. Very extreme weather indeed!

Hahaa so true! Construction season also coincides with bug season, and there's only about two weeks between either seasons where there's no bugs and its not freezing.
