How To Tig Weld Aluminum: The Corner Welding Joint!!!!
For the next two weeks, I will be continuing to release videos for my Tig Welding How To series, strictly about Tig Welding For Beginners. More Specifically, Tig Welding Aluminum.
On today's episode, I give a super detailed demo of the Corner Welding Joint... or Corner Weld... or Outside Corner Weld...I've heard it called many things in my days.
But what do I call it? FRIGGING FUN. If you have mastered the last weld in my series, the lap weld, ( • TIG WELDING HOW TO - T... ) this one will be a blast. And if you get it!? Get ready to be showing this one off to everyone on Instagram. This weld is a STAPLE joint to learn, and a showy one at that. But its difficult! So get ready to watch this tutorial several times and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE,
Not only do I want to teach someone how to do a weld, but to be able to look and analyze WHY it was a good weld, and to actually be able to teach SOMEONE ELSE too! Pass it on!
For Tig Welding For Beginners, Im going to be breaking down even more keys in the Tig Welding How To videos, Fillet Joint, Tig Welding Mistakes, as well as how to avoid LOTS of Tig Welding Mistakes.
Next video out on THURSDAY!
Tig Welding For Beginners, or tips for Aluminum Tig Welding Basics, Watch these and pass it on to someone else who is learning, or could use a refresher!
I WANT TO SEE YOUR WORK! TAG ME ON INSTAGRAM, @pacificarctigwelding, or join our FaceBook group page! I will never say that the way I teach welding, is the BEST AND ONLY way to learn, but after training welders for over 10 years, I definitely have a few tricks to share.

I modified a pair of clamps pliers with some angle iron to make a special clamp to hold the two plates at a 90 degree angle. Work quite well.

Practice practice practice. Time behind the hood with the basic movements and timing coordination will payoff. These videos can help all that are working toward a better understanding of TIG. A lot of info out there for basic setups if you need and don’t want to experiment, which I like to do. Another good video for a visual reference and help. Thanks for putting it out. Take care man!

Great info, thanks. I love your presentation, very casual but really informative. I haven’t started on Aluminum yet, will do very soon I hope. 🙏😊 PS, I love doing the random acts of kindness, it’s a great way to make someone’s else’s day as well as your own. Thanks for reminding me to keep them front of mind.

Awesome Greg. I’m actually considering redoing these vids, they’re a bit dated for my liking now, it’d be good to have them updated with better sound and filming tricks:) But happy they’re out there to help someone!

Glad to see you using a transformer machine. Lots of folks trying to learn on inverter based machines and using all of the adjustments and parameters for a crutch. I started with a synchrowave in my home shop and to be honest I find myself setting up my dynasty like a transformer more often than not. Instead of using all the bells and whistles they tend to hurt me Instead of help

Thank you so much for the awesome information you share mate. It is very much appreciated. Like a lot of people, I am using this covid downtime to learn how to weld and yours and Jody’s vids are invaluable. One thing I’d love to see is how much filler you’re feeding in relation to the puddle to get consistent welds. Would it be possible to do a vid with a sharpie mark on the filler rod so we can see how much you’re feeding? Thanks again 🙏🏽

if your building tanks for anything id recommend some interior burn through witch indicates 100% penetration. ive seen your second example what i like to call the "instagram weld" crack from vibration. it may look pretty but its just bridged over the seam not digging into it. great content man.

Is a foot pedal essential to get the quality weld you are pointing out here. I mean you are varying the current as you weld with the pedal. Should you be able to do a good weld without a foot pedal by varying the filler or travel speed etc etc.

I work for a factory that mainly tigs aluminum. Started practicing and have gotten okay. But all my bosses keep saying its too cold and want me to just start out at 160amp and force myself to weld fast... whats ur opinion on if i should get it down then crank up the amps and work on speed or force myself???

I know it is an old vid. so i hope you see this question. you are set at around 190 amps. but how much of that are you actually using?

I know this video is older, but it sounds like you have the Hertz turned down to like 60 or maybe 40. Is that necessary for this joint?

Ive actually started to get a welding shop together at my house here, so Ill be switching to filming and working strictly at my pad here! Really stoked. Should be easier to go make more vids when the kids go to sleep here haha

Doesn't this video precede the one where you describe the weld you made that failed, due to lack of penetration? And if so, is this the technique that doesn't have adequate penetration? That weld that failed was the same type of joint, edge joint. Not sure what the metal was you were working on that failed. Stainless?

If you are still curious , it should make a somewhat of a v shape (leading edge ) of the puddle going into the root of the joint , if not it will make a C shape of a keyhole. If it’s making a v shape that mean it’s penetrating and imo can give you an idea if your heat is correct as well.

Hey! Thanks for reaching out! I was around 160 (i think) amps, but my freq is always at 60hz, as it's a transformer:) My Ac balance for joints around that heat would be about 25% DCEP:)
