A conversion is an important interaction that you want your visitors/users to complete. It can be a purchase, a download, a signup or anything else that either brings your visitors/users to the final goal (purchase) or is the actual sale.
*UPDATE:* all settings from the "Configure" section were moved to Admin of GA4

In this video, we will learn how to configure and track conversions in Google Analytics 4. Those who have worked with the previous versions of Google Analytics, for example, Universal Analytics, are familiar with the term “Google Analytics Goal”. Basically, that’s how GA was calling conversions in the past.
So whenever you google something like “how to track goals in Google Analytics 4”, you should be looking at Google Analytics 4 conversion tracking guides.
The configuration process is different (compared to Universal Analytics), thus watch this video carefully. Also, I have an accompanying guide that you can find below.

Hello, this tutorial has been very helpful. I have a question about Google Optimize. I'm running an A/B test and want to track conversions on GA4. How would I set up the Event to include the ID for Google Optimize?

Hi, great explanation. But I have a question: I have a site with a demo (on a unique URL) and people can register to the site. I now want to see how many times someone is converted (conversion = register) after they have done the demo, and how many just register without doing the demo. This would give me insights if the demo is actually useful or not. That means I would like to see something at like 8:40 where it shows: Organic Search > View Demo. So it shows the demo was part of the conversion path. Hope I make sense. How would I implement something like this?

Thank you for the video! Do you know to set it so Google Ads sees GA4 events as a conversion? My custom GA4 events are converting properly in GA4, but if someone clicks on one of our ads and then converts (clicks the Book Now button on our website) this isn't counted as a conversion under that campaign/ad. Is it possible to connect these?

Hi Julius, I have marked some of my events as conversions using the toggle switch and they appear in the conversion tab now but doesn't show the green flag against the same events in debug view and after waiting for more than 48 hours, doesn't show in the conversion reports too :(

Thanks for the video! i have a question. Our GA4 account has data streams from both apps and website. How am I gonna know whether the auto-created events are from the website or app? Is there a way to distinguish app and website conversions? Thanks

If we have a conversion on page 3 but Acquire users to page 1 (URL with UTM tags on Facebook ads) and then they navigate to page 2 and from there to page 3 (e.g. thank you page) will the conversion be tied up to the UTMs?

Hi, I have created some event tags in GTM, I can see them as event in debug mode in GA4, but cant see them in event name list there. I want to set them as goals and import to Google Ads as conversion tracking. Is this the rightway?

Hi & thanks for the great videos. A scenario I'm curious about -> Lets say you have several forms on your website and you want to track the conversions for each one individually. So, you set up events for these based on the event generate_lead . How do you handle the conversions? If I create custom events named form1, form2, form3 as conversions, and generate_lead shpuld be a conversion, we are double counting conversions?

Thanks for greate tutorials... I have one issue that I try to find in GA4 that might me interesting. In Google Analytics universial Acqusitions -> Source/Medium . there is a column "Goal Completions. I can find the number of Goals and in a small number within ( ) paranteces i can se the porcentige out of total Gaols. For example that 53% out of my Goals is from Google / cpc etc etc. How to get this porcentige number in GA4? When building own reports in Explor. Happy for answer :)

1. so if i toggle the button from event all the history of the event will be lost? 2. if i keep it on event it will save the history info? i looked at 4:30 minutes

What would you suggest if in the GA4 debugger I can SEE the purchase event occur, AND i can see all "Event > parameter" and "Items > Product Name" details being passed from the dataLayer, but the item name isn't showing in my Ecommerce reports?

You are doing great work. i really appreciate your videos. hopefully you will upload a video in future where Conversion tracking with value in GA 4 will be mentioned. Currently i cannot find any videos about it. i only find videos with google ads. here is the problem which i am facing: We have an online shop an sell products. I want to count the conversion with its true value (price). We have also the problem that your product is to be configured by a costumer. (you have a base price + upgrades). Our Data Layer shows transactionproducts: id, name, price but this is only the base price (without upgrades). The total shopping cart is listed as conversionvalue with correct price. but i have no clue how to grab this information

Juliau, I have a problem! I have followed your tutorial to a tee and managed to set-up event & toggled the switch where it says 'mark event as conversion'. For a few days it was working well, but then it stopped! The event name is still visible, it's selected to be conversion, but it's not conversions do not appear! So even is being fired, but not the conversions... I googled the problem and couldn't pinpoint someone having similar issue.. Maybe you know what it might be?

Hi . Great video, thanks ! I would rather have my conversion marked once per session in GA4 (as UA does). This metric sounds much more relevant to me. Is there a way to set up a conversion to be triggered once per session only. For instance, if someone ads a product to the cart, I want the tag to be triggered the first time only, not if they keep ading other products to the cart. That's because I want to know the ratio of people how visit the website / people who add at least 1 item to the cart. Thanks a lot !

I am an Electrician as my web site takes Quote Enquiries. HOWEVER the only place I can control SALES Events is in another piece of cloud software (ServiceM8) which I complete a job and invoice. There is a "Job Complete" event in Zapier that this exposes, and I use it for Facebook Purchase events. HOWEVER is it possible to send a GA4 event in this way? (From the external cloud based software/service or Zapier)?? I can track Leads with forms submitted, but Purchases is what I REALLY want to track ultimately. I can see that Zapier would manage this in GA3 (UA) but NOT currently in GA4!

i hope you will answer to this comment because i see you dont reply to any one. i did everything like in your tutorial but when i make an order and get to thank you page, in GA4 > conversions reports i dont see anything. in debug view i see green flag and nothing on the reports. not the event, not the conversion. how so? what did i miss?

Yeah, none of this has any bearing to what I see in my Google Analytics GA4 account. Within a year, Google's ridiculous interface has made this video useless.
