In this video I introduce Theo (a new hot OTTB to our yard) and talk through videos as I ride him in his first few rides to help explain what to avoid and try to achieve during training/ schooling. Mainly the aim with all OTTBs and any horse really is to achieve relaxation so that further training can be commenced.
I will continue to record Theo's journey so that you can follow along in his progress.
Clicking the Bell symbol the the bottom right underneath the video to turn on all notifications will make sure you don't miss out of any new videos.
Thanks for watching

The off the track I ride, she definitely favours the left lead, but over the past few weeks she’s got way better.

I do think as a general rule they find the left lead easier. It’s odd as they canter to the right but I think they find it hard to with themselves flexed that way- completely different balance.

Hi Jeds, before you doing canter and trot, it is better to do walk, just simple thinks to help the horse, good luck.

Hi, sorry unsure what you mean. My horses have about 15 minutes walk warm up beginning of every ride. These videos are edited. Thank you

That was interesting. Think my days of hot horses are over. Wanted to describe my current horse but it's difficult. Some people hate him and find him to be really intimidating. I think he's sweet.

Oh why do some hate him? Each horse and human matches someone different. I don’t think anyone can truly understand each of our bonds. I often find sweetness in horses that others aren’t fond of- I think that’s a good thing

My ottb is 20 and still doesn’t understand that leg pressure does not mean go. I’m now getting him use to leg pressure. What I’m doing is circling him at the walk and getting him used to leg by applying leg and then use my reins to control his front end. He is starting to understand that leg in does not mean go. He also does not know voice cues so I’m getting him used to that so when I’m away at school more people will be willing to ride him. Right now he acts like he is 4 and takes of with his rider if he doesn’t like what they are doing.

Hi Tasia, sounds like you're doing a great job! I talk to my horses a lot and use my voice heaps, it can make such a big difference. Amazing that he is going so strong at such an age- you must be taking great care of him

Something going on in that right hind. Perhaps hock or stifle. Defiantly looks off.

Because he holds himself so tightly it’s hard to assess as a lameness. However due to not improvement with relation/ use of himself under saddle i recently took him to some fellow vets for imaging of his back etc. see today’s Vlog at 6pm

@@jedsequine1564 good luck! Ill watch later. I train racehorses and I had a gelding that I retired and sold to a friend who trains showjumpers & he had a spur in his hock but never showed any lameness. I know stifles / pelvis issues are hard to find too. Hope they find the it
