Loved all the tips, especially about the importance of the farrier. This happened to me, my farrier refused to work with my vet, and I was fired as a client. It worked out for the best and my horse has been so much better with the new farrier .

I love that you mentioned the little things like changing the crow piece of the bridle, and especially having a bit that’s comfortable for the horse. Could you maybe do a video showing us how you judge if and what kind of extra pad Mowgley needs? That would be very interesting.

I wish my instructors from the past would have taken the time to teach the ground up , the intricate parts that are so vital. When I watch you guys I just learn so much, like……..whoa, why was I never told these things. The internet wasn’t around when I rode, but I would have taken my phone to the barn and been “ watch this !!!! “ Also, Alicia, I adore the video when your talking about horses, and fear, and you said something along the lines of “ They’re big, they do stuff, and YOU are NOT some “Cow spinny thingy” I have laughed since I’ve watched it. I have been injured several times , quite severely , and that totally cracked me up , because NO !!! I do not want to ride some cow spinny thing. Love you both !!! You make my heart happy, and I’m learning SO much. Take care all, 🐴🐴🐴🐴❤️

So, here are some of my takeaways: - get your tack properly fitted, pads and other temporary methods are for those times where your horse's body changes so much you can't keep up - good boots should support the horses leg, whilst letting air come and go - use boots if they are needed for that specific horse in that specific phase, if they aren't essential don't use them - keep the legs cool (brushing boots are bad, cool down the legs after work) - when it comes to feeding: little and often, 80% roughage - getting a good farrier no matter if it's expensive is key for the health of the legs (Cheap often becomes more expensive in the long term) - there is such a things as making shoes for horses based on X-rays (how cool!) Informative video, thank you!

Good to hear you talk about cold boots. I have them and I use them once in a while because I most of the time forget to take them with me to the stables. I need to get it in my system to take them with me, every single day. When I go to a competition I always take a bugget of slobbermesh because I want her to drink after a competition for the hidration, I have to get it in my system to also take the boots, so I can immediatly cool her legs.

I didn't know the difference between the two bits and how they affect horse's mouth! I love how the saddle can fit him even though his body changes day by day and even the boots are so well designed. Of course I will remember: "80% hay and little but often meals" The importance of a good farrier is so big and I appreciate that you point out the fact that horses need to excercise in the field and walker when they are not ridden. Hi Alicia!!! You're so awesome. I have had a special place in my ♥️ for Mr. Mowgley since the first 5 seconds I saw him. 🥰🐴 I also really appreciate how thoughtful & careful you are with him, even from Day 1 - starting with his stall prep! The fact that you noticed that Mowgley felt the brow band, etc., was uncomfortable for him, due to his narrow pole area speaks volumes about you. I love OTTBs (having had one) and they really do take a lot of reconditioning, retraining & slow introduction to their new way of life. So, if I can't have Mr. Mowgly 😢 .... then I am so HAPPY that he is in your care. Wishing you & Meghan tons of happiness & success!

Kathy Mitchell . The discussion about farriers and vets working together makes so much sense! Resistance is weakness in the farrier’s confidence in his/her skill. They must put the health of the horse’s feet ahead of their ego. I would like to hear more about the differences/benefits between hot and cold shoeing.

Great advice as always, thank you. I completely agree that your farrier is the best place NEVER to skimp. I follow several horse people on KZfaq and another is farrier as well as a small stable (Stable Horse Training) and he keeps his horses barefoot, but trims every 3 weeks or less and strongly recommends this as a way to keep his horses sound and happy. He doesn't show, but trail rides on his BC, Canada property and gives lessons there too. Like the old adage goes: no hoof, no horse ;)

So so glad to see you back Alicia & the Team!!! I've been so keen to find out the updates with Mowgli!! So thankyou - at last!! So happy to get a fresh current YRS fix!! My biggest learning so far - I've noticed in all yr hat wearing videos, the horses love the pompom!! 🤣🤣🤣 Now seriously: biggest gold nugget - so, so many!! #1 The whole horse care equals optimal horse ability! ie the food, the feet, the exercise, the tack! #2 Biggest benefit comes from farrier investment! And, Yes, it makes sense since those little feet have to carry all that horse! #3 Not this video, but overall - the value of the training scale! That rhythm + suppleness = contact! Huge impact, that had. On my focus, my understanding, my riding, my horse's progress! #3 The pelvic tilt - has made a massive difference to my seat - my posture, stability & therefore confidence! #4 The good ol' 🍌!! Again, massive difference to my riding! #5 POP! The aids: "make it electric"!! For the clarity to the horse!!! I even say now 😂, when giving the canter aid "pop!!!" #6 Grand Prix hands #7 "always ride with the end in mind" . #8 Then ride with no message - supplying work is so hard on the horse they need their regular, intermittent breaks #9 The value of the leg yield in suppling!! #10 Cooling the tendons - preventative care!!! So, so many more too! And not all in that order! BUT OMG my riding has improved 10-fold since following YRS, more so than in all my years of riding!! You have changed me, my knowledge, my confidence & my horsemanship too. I'm more grateful than I can ever express. 1 question: what were the signs that the contour on the bridle poll strap was too wide & needed reducing? How could you tell? Just love this video - holistic overview & love the input from the DMA participants - thankyou to them as well! And great to see you back 👏👏👏 I just thought of another nugget from you "Always have fun with it!" And that is really important! 🥰🥰🐴🐎❤🙏

WOW!! The transformation with Mowgley is incredible! You can hardly see any signs of bowed tendons, and under saddle..the way he’s carrying himself is night and day from where you started. Amazing work with him! I also agree that spending money on a good, educated farrier is so important in keeping horses sound and performing at their best. I know people who have hack-job farriers work on their horses and are trying to save a buck or two by skimping on a good farrier, and then they wonder why their horses don’t stay sound.

Such a great video!! I got my OTTB a few months ago so this videos and the series with Mowgley is so helpful!! I loved hearing about the importance of the farrier. In my area it’s hard to find farriers in general but this makes me want to reallyyyy search to find one that’s worth it! Especially with thoroughbreds since they tend to struggle with their feet anyways!

Thanks so much Alicia! The tips on the bit, boots and farrier were a great help! Especially the comments on cold vs hot shoeing! I never realised cold shoeing could have a detrimental effect versus hot shoeing.. I knew hot shoes were better but never realised actually how much until now! Thank you 😊

I love the thought process behind the open front jump boots. I definitely learned more about that. Also the way you feed him. I am super interested in feeding my horses. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your program.

It was great to see the progress Mowgley has made in suppleness and temperament. I loved all the little things that make such a big difference especially hosing the legs as it gets so hot here in Australia, even riding early when it is cooler. Thanks Alicia you have given me so much good advice about my position too and I still do the pilates daily.

Yay for Mowgli, I'm glad to see he's doing well. Thank you for explaining about the bowed tendons too, I always thought that this was something to avoid at all costs. This gives hope for so many horses that have tendon issues and I think more OTTBs will get a second chance this way. Way to go!

Just so excited to watch your videos, I am a dance teacher and I find you explain movements in the exact way I teach! We even just completed our first comp, using some of your techniques really helped when we were in the warm up arena which was really the area I was most worried about. I love using the rising faster than your horse or slowing it down to get my horse in front of my leg or just paying attention, also loved using the counter trot whilst asking to go up a gear then asking for canter to help in keeping him straighter. To be honest so many gems that I am excited to use. Loved the last video about where you sit for all the lateral movements!!! I have asked so many people to explain and I have never gained as much understanding as I did in that 1 video. Thank you so much!!!!!! Liza and Swayze my dance partner.

I loved the bit information and the coating that helps with saliva. But the big learning was the information Alicia gave on boots.I know of so many riders who wrap legs and don't ice or cold hose the legs. They don't know the damage they're doing by heating up their horses legs. Thank you so much for this important info!!!!!!

Wow, so much great information. I love all that you talked about with the tendons. We are lucky and live next to a really cold creek so I might start using that to cool down their legs. Thank you.

Wow Mowgley looks great! Handsome boy!!!! Loved the prt where you discuss the bridle. These little adjustments can really have such a difference in a happy well going horse. Good to know and interesting to look at/be aware of with the training horse I ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I have wondered about all the stuff put on horses’ legs. I knew about the hood farrier, but having him work with the vet-/coordinate X-ray and shoeing- terrific idea! Thanks
