Just watched this..I used my light box..I was surprised how much I didn't notice when I first drew something...I always felt if I didn't do a drawing completely by hand I was cheating..The masters used different tools...I was taught can't erase and only use a pencil..You're the best...Thank you.. Thank you Karen. Drawing it again makes a lot of sense as good practice and I’m going to try and do that more often. I do want to print sometimes but I always end up with the paper having a grey background instead of the white colour of my paper and I have never been able to work out how to prevent that and it’s really frustrating! I have an Epsom printer and I use the Epson app with it. I gather from your video Karen that printing isn’t your favourite method but any tips for avoiding the grey background would be much appreciated .

Hi Karen, this is great. I remember scribbling on the back of my drawings with graphite or charcoal when I was in school. I use that technique all the time. Also you hair looks so nice! 😁

Yes!! That technique probably goes back centuries! lol! As this is an age-old problem for sure! And thank you for the lovely compliment!

The other problem with using a printer is that some of the inks run if you go over the lines with markers or water-based paint.

True! Luckily you’ve got lots of other options and laser printers are actually smudge proof so that can be a viable option for those peeps too.

I love graphite paper, I use it on all my paintings. I make a nice neat tracing of my original messy design. Then I tape that tracing on to a canvas that already has the background colour on it. The graphite paper can then be slid between the canvas and tracing paper. My graphite paper came with a metal tool, it's like a pen with a little ball on the end. I've heard that an empty ball point pen also works well.

Yep!! Me too!!! I used to use this when I did a ton of paintings that had text on it, made perfect text without ever having to actually write anything, Amazing! I also love transfer paper because you can re-use it a million times. Honestly, its' the best!

When using graphite paper I use a stylus, then no marks on the original. Works like an empty ball point.

NEVER use carbon paper, it will bleed through your coloring. I really screwed up an acrylic painting learning that lesson. Use graphite transfer paper instead, they sell it in sheets or big rolls.

Thanks Wendy! I've use both no issues with either but thanks for the warning! Those who are particularly concerned will now know to steer clear ( I actually prefer carbon to graphite because it works so much better!).

@@KarenCampbellDRAWS yes, but it just kept bleeding through the acrylic paint no matter how much I tried painting over it, very weird! Maybe it works better for other mediums, I don't know because I won't go near it now, lol!
