This video is still extremely useful for sumo pullers! It's a good reminder of methods to improve the all-important starting position.

Somehow I got unsubbed but catching up on the last couple months of vids. Was wondering why I hadn’t seen anything pop up. This video is so awesome though! The biggest thing here is the transitioning of tissues to a new position. Super happy to have this to send to people! Great work

almost 2022 and still can't believe that gems like this go unnoticed. Most underrated powerlifting channel for sure

Its funny, I dont see many, if any people talking trash on the sumo dl as opposed to certain IG channels like King of the lifts. Could it be due to the fact that only true power lifters follow this page whereas random gym rats follow king of the lifts? im not sure. Good to see that real power lifters show love for the sport.

This & belt squats are fixing things in my old age that squats and regular deads do not. It's NOT cheating, just different, and very effective for strengthening your innards that never see the light of day. Most excellent video btw...glad it's stil here.

Awesome video. Have always struggled with sumo variations with no access to bands, chains, etc.

As a conventional puller switching to sumo I’ve realized another key difference is with conventional you want your shins basically touching the bar at the start of the lift and sumo you keep an inch gap in between. Although I’ve been lifting for a while I’m still really young and would love if you could confirm this

Switched over semi-sumo style and its so much more comfortable going heavyish at 6'3.

Hi Bryce, could you do a quick five minute video on the cues that you use for your sumo deadlift please. TIA.

Would you add additional mobility work, or would that take care of itself with the sumo reps?
@Andino.

For me, sumo seems safer for lower back. I'm gonna try to fix my conventional form first though. I'm shooting my hips up causing all the weight to go to my lower back...

Hey Bryce you ever thought about a collab training with Brian Shaw? Just curious since your both in Northern CO. Could be a cool video and would be cool to see it.

Why is it important that the knees lock before the glutes?
@brycebyte
@brycebyte 4 жыл бұрын
Pulling like this allows you to continue to use your quads and especially glutes later in the movement rather than smaller muscle groups. By staying over the bar for longer, we have the glutes and low back to use during the finish of the pull. It also allows most athletes to better stay in their center of gravity under heavy load.

@@isaacfitzgerald07 thanks for asking! It goes really good. Went down initially to get weak links time to adapt. Now I am starting to go up i weight. I feel that I am much stronger or to be correct I can move heavier weights using sumo. 👍

I've incorporated about everything you mentioned in the video when transitioning from conv. to sumo. Doing higher rep sets my sumo e1rm surpassed my 1rm conventional quite easily. But when I progressed into the lower rep sets and higher intensities my e1rm on sumo dropped significantly. I took about 3 months to progress from 6@6 sets to 4@8. After the 4@8 block I programmed a 1@8 followed by some back-off work. My 1@8 = 4@8 from the previous block. I just can get the weight off the floor if it gets heavier. My 1@8 conventional is actually stronger now then my sumo, and I haven't done much conventional lately. What could be the mistake I made in the transitioning?
