TheJoshuaGuy No problem , they work very well below a beaver dam for the winter sets. Then you don't have to deal with much ice. I have also caught mink in them under the ice.

Reid Johnson It works great under the ice also. Above or below a beaver dam or in a small stream or close to an old beaver house. Any place that otters generally hang out at.

I can see where it would. I just usually set in channels or before the crossover on a dam. Like that idea though. I don't trap that much. Just an old beaver dam behind my house. I don't have a clue how to catch them off a boat dock do you? I can't find out where they are going to the bank. They are catching big bass around the dock and wild ducks and eating them. There leaving the fish heads on the dock. They are 20 otter's around it. I got a call today about another boat dock. He is wanting me to trap his otter and beaver's. I don't do it for a living I just do it to help out. Do you have any idea's how to catch them? I can't find my otter lure so I got Cavens otter lure supreme and fox hollow torpedo. I don't uses lure on otter's much. But I think it will pull the otter's to the set like you made. What brand lure have you had the best luck on? I have caught most of my otter's by snare. Thank you.

I would just use the fishing lure in the conibear trigger if I were you. But set lots of the traps at the same time. Is there any old beaver houses close by? If there is set the entrances of it for the otters.

Can you set the entrances of dead beaver houses? That was always a good one. Use the ladder set and block off the entrance. Or use the ladder in small creeks.

+Joseph Watkins 220's are not great beaver traps although I have caught many of them in there when set for otters.220's are better otter traps than the 330's. Can you set the traps so that they are partially in the water with the trigger just submerged? If not can you use the 280's on land? If no to either of those then set the 220's on the land and I think a lot of the really big beavers will go around. But I would check the traps daily to make the chance of fur damage lessen.

Really. How long did you leave the lure set in? I have caught lots of otters in this set. But then again I don't have any docks around. A couple other viewers tried this set and caught their first otters in them. But I have had them set before where they were there all season and did not catch any as well.

2 weeks. The otter's was catching fish getting on the boat lifts eating fish. I move down the dock away from there used lure put a fish on trigger caught one. I made some sqaure bucket/ cage buckets. Made a like wire trap put a 220 in each in put fish in middle. That works I think if I was out on the river where the otter's had a harder time with fish it would work. I put a shad on the trigger of a 330 it worked.

+Christopher Maxson Those things would work great. The only thing might be that the otters may tear them when they hit the trigger. I caught one 2 years ago by tearing a coke can apart and cutting out the shape of a fish and attaching it to the trigger, so those rubber ones should work real good.

If you have an area that the otters are moving in it will work. Really works near the entrance of an old beaver house that the otters are using.

ok where im at we dont have beaver anymore. we use to but were trapped to extinction in my county.

Otters love to go in and out of old beaver houses.

+john lindsay I have not tried them because the floaters always stay upright for me. I made a fish looking thing out of a coke can 2 years ago and attached it to the trigger and caught an otter with that so I can't see why they metal lures would not work.

333widowmaker I take my bear oil and every otter I catch I cut the scent glands out of them, cut the glands open and squeeze the liquid out into the bear oil.

Ya me too... but when this set was made I had already caught 6 otters on my small line. I have not seen an otter track since then. In a couple weeks I am going to move out to the farmland and I will set a couple of them and see what happens.
