I quit using Air BnB. If there is an issue, you can't just change rooms, you are stuck at the mercy of the host. Consider yourself lucky if you haven't ran into an issue yet but you eventually will.

We are a family of 8. So my hubby always love booking airbnb. I on the other hand don’t want to stay in an airbnb. I’m on vacation I don’t want to cook & clean. We have stayed in many airbnb and the check out process is freaking insane. That’s why I prefer to go on cruises. I don’t have to worry about food, cleaning or doing anything that I would normally do at home.

Another tip for families is to book a room that has a kitchen (Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites, etc) and prepare your meals vs eating out every day.

For long haul just look for airline sales and book early is my best advice, short haul here in Europe so long as not 2-3 weeks in advance flights are pretty cheap.

Another option is utilizing the hotel's complimentary shuttle if they have one that can take you to tourist spots. I did this in Las Vegas when I stayed off strip where the hotel drops you off within the Strip. I also stayed at a Hampton Inn in Anchorage and they had a complimentary shuttle that took guests to nearby locations and even Walmart haha.

Thanks Chris, you always have good tips. Here’s one I experienced regarding holidays: If you’re flying out of the US, make sure you’re not going to a country where they are having a holiday, and if it is a holiday, learn more about what that holiday entails. The first time I went to Japan, I arrived on children’s day. Everything was sooo crowded.

To me, the best tip was Google Flights; not in this video, but in an earlier one. But try to stick to one airline to collect miles, baggage allowance, lounge access etc., obviously. Also, I can skip breakfast more often than not, so it’s cheaper to get something simple on the days I can’t rather than paying for a breakfast I don’t eat 4/5 days.

I have found airlines are creatures of habit and seem to have sales around the same time each year. For international codes share flights, airlines don't always do sales at the same time. I have used American Airline discount precursor to Qantas discount so I can snipe the limited sales tickets when they become available 😊

Sad I missed the live. I just booked my airbnbs for our summer trip to force me to commit to buying the tickets when they hopefully drop $ next month. 😅 I will watch prices for years without actually taking the plunge but my husband is egging me on though I don’t think he’ll survive without me for 2 months he says it will save money 😂 I find Airbnb is better and cheaper for longer trips and long family trips, and living like a local. (At least in Japan) I stay 3-4 weeks in each place and being stuffed in a hotel room with kids and no kitchen would be a nightmare 😂 you get a monthly discount usually if you stay 4 weeks. By myself I would use a hostel or sharehouse depending on length.

Helpful video Chris! Good idea searching other nearby airports for your origin/destination. Many airlines allow you to search for LA area airports vs just LAX. Another one is for Tokyo, search TYO for Tokyo area airports to search both HND or NRT. I can go on but you get the idea. Keep in mind for flights to and from US (domestic and international), you have 24 hours window to cancel a flight and receive a full refund. This can be helpful if you snag a great airfare but find out hotels are way out of your price range (I snagged a direct flight from Southwest just under $300 for Long Beach to Maui but the hotels were averaging $800 and up - ouch!). Very important to use that 24 hour window to research hotels, etc.

Chris, I'm visiting Bath England in April 4 days. Do I book flight then what if Hotel is not available? I check with hotel, then book flight and call back hotel? What about a change in plans? Is it easy or very expensive for return flight. Don't mean to go on however I must also take train from Paddington to Bath. How do I coordinate all this? Don't mean to bug ya too much. Is it better to have a travel agent handle it. Is that more expensive? Too many questions please don't bother. I know you're busy. BTW I ALWAYS enjoy your webcasts. You work so hard on your casts.
@sheilaa1333
@sheilaa1333 3 ай бұрын
We did this a few years ago. I always book the flights first since there are more hotels than flights. Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington. Then Paddington to Bath was easy, but I’d make sure your train ticket is changeable in case the flight is delayed. An upgrade on the train ( not sure whether they called it First or not) was relatively cheap and welcome experience after an overnight flight in coach. 😂

Appreciated this video!! These tips will be so useful as we're gonna be heading on a cruise for Spring Break!! It's a Pacific Coast cruise on Princess, one way to Vancouver, BC from Long Beach. Planning on staying in Vancouver a few days after and booked a hotel. The trend is all hotels in Vancouver are quite expensive so booking the no-breakfast rate saves money since we'll just stock up at the grocery store with the fridge.
