Norway has alot of ''Coop'' and ''Xtra/Extra'' products which are cheaper alternatives than the regular marketing brands of food products.

That's one thing I discovered staying there a bit longer: the "store version" of the products is unbelievably cheaper than the famous brands. That's how I explained the ridiculous price of those corn flakes for example.

Yep, I am a Norwegian, and the ''Norway is so expensive'' is more of a myth than a fact, when Norwegians go to hollidays in other places in Europe, it's not like buy food, staying in a hotel, or doing daily things on a vacation is so much more expensive than a holliday in Norway would been, it's all about what you make it into.

If you ever decide to give my home city Trondheim a go let me know up front and I'll check out the prices in my area for any product you'd like me to check. Ma'am, I would love to see you traveling to the Philippines! You never have to worry about the money and the beaches are beautiful (sadly, those beaches I'm referring to are the few ones that are still not touched by pollution, so you have to first research the cleanest, cheapest resort before you come here...) you can also check Trivago for the hotel prices, they'll be really cheap for you and also, food is everywhere... from literally in the streets (you should try our street-foods hahaha) to fancy restaurants... but i advise you try the fast food chain we're known for (Jollibee)

It's great that you show how to travel on a budget. Some people have a mindset that travelling means spending a lot of money on luxury stuff. I bet there's a lot of people who don't travel at all because they're concerned they might not be able to afford going to a restaurant, with the idea that travelling abroad is for the rich. Some people's idea of eating cheap on a trip is eating at the famous fast-food shops (McDonalds, etc). I had some friends telling me once previous to a trip I was going to make "oh! In X city you'll end up eating everyday in a McDonald's because restaurants there are expensive". No way they considered other alternatives like buying food at the supermarket or eating at a kebap place. I guess those options weren't up to their standards or what they "were used to". Some people think that travelling like these is for bums or hippies. For those people it's good that a beautiful young seemingly middle-class woman like you shows them these alternative ways.

fuertesyrobustos travelling is still expensive(though it largely depends on your country, gender and ethnicity),you pay for flights/trains/buses/visas, and hotels. You are also missing work if you have your own business so yes travelling is definitely expensive.

@@Ilovepineapple The whole purpose of this channel is to show that travelling can be not expensive at all. Infact, travelling can be even less expensive than living in one place. I'm not going to repeat how in this comment cause as I said, every one of the videos I make shows it. Plus, if you're interested, I'm working right now on a serie of videos that address exactly this question: how to afford full time travelling. They'll start to be published at the end of this week.

@WhatashameMaryJane
@WhatashameMaryJane 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Hafid! There really are no general rules, every host has his own. I would say 99% of the times they have no problem at all if you use their kitchen. They usually also appreciate cooking together or even if you cook something good for them. To be sure, you just have to ask them. Be just mindful that every one of us has his own weird habits. It could always happen - even if it's rare - that the host doesn't like food smell in his apartment or wants the kitchen to be clean after every meal, or stuff like that. As always, the best thing to do is to have a communicative approach. If you do so, it's extremely difficult to have any sort of problem with the host.

There are 3 brands that are on the more cheeper side : First Price : This is the most cheapest of them all. This brand got the biggest selection in products of the cheaper brands. You will find this brand in KIWI and Spar shops and mayby some others aswell. Rema 1000 do not have this brand, they got their own budget brand called Euro shopper. Here are also a huge selection of products. The last one is called Eldorado. Also found in various food stores. All these brands got products as : Meat, Cerial, fruits, backeries, chocklate soda, vegstables, egg, butter most stuff for the sadwich, Frozen fish, ready dinners . +++. If you do some research on google before you go to norway you can save up to 1/2 to 2/3 on the food budget alone. The most conveniet brand to find is First Price. 230g Steak will cost you about 3 Euro for example, 1,2 kg of fries cost just over a euro and and some sauce were you just att butter, milk and water cost between 1 and 2 euros. A famely can make a steak dinner on a very budget price. :-) (If you have acsess to a kitchen that is..)

As a Norwegian, what I feel what I can get a lot cheaper when travelling to other countries are services, admissions to experiences and food when eating out. In most other European countries I feel like groceries are just a bit cheaper, except sugary stuff and alcohol that's quite heavily taxed in Norway. But stuff like going to the hairdresser, eating out, going to a concert or to an attraction can be a fraction of what I would have to pay for something similar at home.

Norway is great , but hideously expensive. To save money : book hotels and longer train journeys well in advance , use the seven-eleven stores for food and drink (seven-elevens will quickly become your greatest friends trust me) , also go to chain cafes/eateries in the daytime to eat at the cheaper end of the scale , stay away from restaurants in trendy or touristy areas , avoid drinking alcohol in pubs and bars unless you want to pay over ten pounds/euros for a single drink , avoid tourist trap shops and find bargains in markets if you are near one , use local tram systems to get around , buy city passes if you wish to see a lot of museums , galleries etc . Do these things and your stay in Norway will be no more expensive than a stay in London or Paris for instance . Throw caution to the wind and it will destroy your bank balance .

I'm born north in norway (Bodo) Here is a few tips Only buy grocerys from a place called kiwi, they have products named first price (wich is very cheap) If you staying for a week, buy food for a week not go everyday. It gets expensive Dont buy from fuel station, they are like really expensive Do not buy from Joker (As its more like a sunday shop, but increased price) Make food from scratch as its cheaper(If you do have the stuff or eligible to do it where you are) Try not to stay at a hotel, but try rent a room or a apartment on that website, i cant remember, but its like a worlwide website were you can rents apartments or houses.

Advice for people that want to visit Oslo, buy "Oslo pass". There you will have free public transportation for one or two zones (metro, trains, busses, boats), you can visit more then 50 musseums, you get discounts for restaurants and some shops. It last 24, 48 and 72 hours from the moment of activation. Cheepest way for you to see everything in this city. And buy food at Gronland, stores there are cheapest for some reasone.

Why do you always travel alone ? I feel self-conscious and kinda lonely when travelling alone. How do you overcome that ?
@WhatashameMaryJane
@WhatashameMaryJane 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Elia, good question! First of all, because it makes you feel self conscious, travelling alone is a great self esteem exercise! A bit extreme maybe, but very efficient :) You're there alone, far from every friend or relative: you either strengthen up or you sink. Many people who have tried travelling alone have sunk, which mean they went home feeling vaguely depressed about the trip and promised theirselves never travel alone anymore. But if you are able to take courage and deal with being by yourself, your trip will become the best one you've ever had. Second: in my case, Couchsurfing is the answer. The moments when we tend to feel more alone are usually in the evening and in the morning. With Couchsurfing you usually have dinner with your host and he/she will tell you goodnight with a smile before going to bed and good morning in the morning. Those are simple gestures, but I think they make the difference. If you have a strong human contact in the evening and in the morning, then you're probably not going to feel lonely during the day. And when you do, just start to talk with anyone: the guy who serves you food, the one at the info desk at the station, the girl sitting next to you on the bus... Often you'll find a person who you get along with and have a good conversation for half an hour, then you're ready to continue doing your things. Or if you need more company, use Couchsurfing Hangouts! You'll still have company for the whole day but at least you get to know somebody new!

This would probably work if you do not need a huge amount of calories, protein, etc. each day. For me, this wouldn't be nearly enough, haha. x) I live in Norway (this city, even!) and I spend a decent amount of my student loan on food items. Trying to buy the cheap brands when the quality is acceptable, though.
