I have a couple of minor red bruises on the inner thigh of the right leg and the pain is not significant. I played soccer a week ago. Could it be related to groin strain?

I broke my ankle recently and got my cast off recently yesterday I was on my crutches and my crutch slipped on something I fell to the floor now my knee all the way up to the thigh idk what I've done but I can barley move it and it sticks out when I try and put it straight a bit if it's still bad I'm going to go to the hospital where I broke dosnt hurt it's just my knee do u know anything I can do?

I have restrained my adductor for the second time, post 6 weeks of rehab. All strains occured during straight running, while knee was near highest point mid stride. Through rehab i've increased overall hip and leg flexibility considerably, and performed various strengthening exercises routinely. None of which, however, feel like they "hit the spot" (strain location). Any chance you could post some adductor strengthening exercises? General content over the internet is very generic and basic.

I play sports that require jumping and splitting in the air, while playing suddenly I felt a snap at this area muscle while in the air n splitting. My question for all the gurus out there. How to maintain the split reach while recovering from the pain?

Hi I think have a groom strain because I was training and slipped and fell on that part. Now it's difficult for me to run and I have to recover quick because I have a big tournament. Instead of using I strips can I use icy hot strips and what exercises should I do to recover quick PLEASE REPLY ASAP THANK YOU

Hello sir, would you recommend putting some ICY HOT on it and letting that dry before i put on the tape? I feel better when i exercise with some sports cream of some sort on my muscles. Or, should i use the tape without any type of gels, whether the skin is dry or not? Thanks

john Sir, i have a problem since 9 months ,when ever i used to walk i got stuck to the road my leg not move upward correctly. while running with full momentum i used to felt down over the ground and i got disbalanced. for sudden while sleeping my leg used to shake and some times when i wake up in the morning and try to walk its feel like some body is holding my thigh. while running i wont be able to keep the momentum ok knee its pain !! i dnt knw what kind of problem is this please help me 🙁

I'm sure I tore my adductor kicking a football (not confirmed), I immediately had to lay on the ground for about 10 mins and eventually limped home while feeling sick and dizzy. overtime it healed into a strangely thick mass in the adductor area that contracts into a large ball when I close my legs together and stretches back out when I open again. its quite baffling 🤔

John, I am a fencing coach. During yesterday's training session I slipped and injured my adductor longus/Magnus area and my anterior cruciate ligament, rather then waste my GPs valuable time what would you suggest the best way forward during the first few days having both injuries?

Very tough injury to recover from. Torn mine 9 years ago in high school football and had surgery. Still feel a very uncomfortable popping from time to time when engaging my abs. Noticeably weaker on that side as well.

Hi I hurt my inner supporting groin muscle on my leg doing Side Kick drills in Tae Kwon Do class. It's been 13 months and I had a Orthopedic do an MRI and he said I didn't need surgery(this is 6 months into it after I just tried to rest for a few months then rehab on my own). He sent me to physical therapy which because of scheduling took a couple months to start. So after 4-5 months of PT it is stronger but still hurts when I try to do the Side Kicking move to get back to class. I've been training on and off for 20+ years prior to injury with never an injury to my groin. However when I was doing the drill I was coming back from a layoff and was heavier. I'm not sure if I should seek alternative treatment like acupuncture but while it's stronger it's still a sharp pain when ever I kick higher than mid level and sharp pain until I get warmed up. Please advise me on any ideas of treatment. I am in my mid 40's.

In hockey practice I tweaked my groin and was getting a sharp pain in the upper groin when I would try to turn and stuff. I rested for 4 days and then today tried to return, it felt good for a while at full speed and then about 45 minutes in I got the same sharp pain... I don't really know what to do. I have 3 games this week Tuesday Thursday Saturday.. Saturday is the big one that I really need to play in.. What should I do I am pretty lost at what to do

I got hit by a metal baseball bat in the area where the thigh meets the groin like at the pelvis. I'm female btw. I had a hematoma there and it's been 8 months and I've still got burning pains and sharp pains along with pressure when I sit down. It also makes me feel quite sick and tired and light headed. Please help

It sounds like the problem might be in the hip joint rather than a simple muscle strain of the adductor. I would try and see someone like the to assess your hip joint. regards JG

hi, so about a week ago i was outside with my friends, we were in the cold we were playing with the volleyball and then we were kicking it, i wasent kicking hard at all it was just a soft one im fact i was using my other leg more. i barely moved around or ran it was a small jog (less then a warm up pace) and it was so cold i couldent feel anything at all. when we went inside and got warm i felt dull pain on my right groin. the next day i felt a pericing feeling but it didnt hurt and ever since that day ive been feeling it but it doesent hurt but i can tell its there so wht should i do?. i run track and the season is about to start and i have practice Tuesday and i really wanna participate as my last year as a senior, its been a struggle. thank you

Hello JG! I do not want to go to the hospital for them to tell me I have a sprain abductor- and nothing for them to do- few weeks back I got on my walking pad wrong several days later I started having groin pain and now it’s affecting both sides. I have a bruise that is now starting to go away. I’m so scared it’s a sports hernia. Thoughts?

Hello doctor I was having the same problem then I took a mri it says I have a partial tear of about 1cm in pubic attachment of right adductor Longus tendon so I was medicated but still it shows no recovery what I have to do now plz reply this comment doctor

from personal experience..i recommend you do an MRI, sometimes a groin hernia can be disguised as an adductor strain, and vice versa. I know that it is often said that hernias will have a bulging, but thats not necessary in its early stages.

First thing I tried when pulling my groin was to exercises it and stretch it, found out the hard way that is a no no. Walking makes it worse also. WHole hip feels out of place. Will just ice,elevate and rest it for now

Everything I have read is that ice and rest for 48 hours only! After that should heat. The only thing I e does is reduce inflammation and provide some pain relief. As I say that is what I have read. First time I have had this type of injury and it’s sooooo painful.

Hello! I really need some help, and if you have the possibility to answer this question, it would help me a lot. Three weeks ago I strained my gluteus muscle, but at first I was feeling it in the joint and soon it extended in the glute. I didn't start the treatment immediately, because I didn't know that I had a muscle strain and I normally don't like to stop when exercising, so I went on. After I made things worse I took it easy, so I didn't do any strenuous activity but low to moderate impact, without any pain, I took ibuprofen and massaged my leg with ointments. I didn't feel the pain these days, but a little discomfort if I tried to stretch my leg or put too much force on that leg, and after I was done with a martial arts practice, where I used my legs a lot, I started the feel the pain again, not at the initial rate, but I still can't perform some of the exercises.. So what should I do to rehab fast? Is it okay to do some cardiovascular exercise as long as it doesn't hurt, or yoga, or walking? I dont want to stop the activity, but I also don't want to re-injure myself again, and I don't know what's best to do, so I really need some advice. I also mention that it doesn't hurt when I stand, walk or run, it only hurts if I try to stretch my entire leg.

Naty21Grl Hi, first of all I doubt that you have strained the Gmax as that is very rare so you might have got some issue with your hip joint or lumbar spine that is responsible for your symptoms. Without looking at you it is difficult for me to comment so I would try and go and see a therapist like me to give their opinion but if they say the Gmax is torn go and see someone else that knows what they are talking about. i fell from a skate ramp pretty hard yesterday and i can't walk normally without feeling sore around the groin, thigh (and the bottom of my butt), i used cream but of course it still hurts. what should i do to recover?

You probably have the usual tissue damage from the fall and I suggest Ice for next few days and some simple medication to reduce the inflammation. If pain is still present in a few weeks (not days) then try and get to see someone like me to check that there is no damage directly to the hip joint - common issue being a torn Labrum (cartilage). I have pain and swelling where he had the red stickers placed on his groin/inner thigh, that is shown in the beginning of the video. "How I think it happened" I was wearing tight underwear and shorts and went to bed like that. The next day I was fine until I changed out of the shorts and put on some Jean's. I'm not used to wearing tight cloths. At first I thought it was a hernia but I haven't been doing any heavy lifting. The only thing I can think of is tendonitis from wearing tight shorts all night. Is that possible. What do you think Doc?

You should rest for about 2-5 days without playing 'hardcore soccer' (playing seriously) ps. My parents are doctors

Yeah I've had the problem for 6 months now I can run and kick the ball but as soon as I kick with say 30 percent power it just goes again and I can barely walk.

Sounds like you just have torn the adductor muscles? If so try and see someone like me if possible and short term use ice packs for about 10 mins and repeat every 2-3 hours....if not sure what to do then search 'treatment of acute injuries'. regards JG

Muscular tears can take months to heal depending on the severity of the tear, I would also get someone like me to take a look at your hip just to make sure there is nothing going on. Sometimes pain in the adductors can be as a result of a referred pain coming directly from the hip joint. Good luck, JG

The problem / pain in the adductors might be coming from the hip joint so you need someone to check out the range of motion to that area as it can mimic an adductor strain and if you treat the strain then it probably won't reduce until someone treats the hip joint. Good luck, regards JG

I have glute pain and have for quite some time. I recently had an ultrasound and was told I have calcium build up on my adductor magnus. Every article or video I look up for the adductor magnus points out the groin, but my pain is in the glue :|

Hi, maybe the adductor magnus calcium buildup is is causing a secondary compensatory pain in the glutes but if honest I doubt it, maybe you have an issue with the lumbar or pelvis that is responsible for your pain. Good luck trying to find out....

Doug Thompson here. Thanks for the informative video. I have had a strained/torn adductor for a long time (as in years). From time to time when stretching it "pops" painfully and significant bruising occurs. If I leave it alone, it remains painfully tight; if I try to stretch it seems to reinjure. Any advice? Thank you for your expertise. It sometimes hurts in the groin when getting off the sofa from a seated position, to the point that I can’t stand up straight to walk. When should ice and heat be applied? Peace and Blessings!

I strained my muscle while playing football last year 2020 and MRI scan showed that my Abductor Longus got teared and there is a visible swelling on my right thigh. The pain has disappeared but whenever I stretch during a warm up session there is a little pain and the swelling has not reduced. Should I go for surgery to repair the Abductor Longus muscle?

Surgery is not normal for a tear of the adductor longus as they normally repair with correct treatment / rehab within a few weeks / months depending on severity of the strain. The swelling might actually be where the muscle is completely torn (Grade 3) and the muscle either side has bunched up...if you try to contract the muscle and you see the swelling (muscle) increase then it is what is aid it was. It might be coming from the joint in the front of the groin area called the Symphysis-Pubis and its a good idea to go and see a therapist that can take a look. Regards JG

Its quite rare to tear the pectinous but if you think you have then you can adapt the technique accordingly as not to difficult. If you have groin pain then make sure the hip is all ok as this joints mimics a pectinous strain. thanks JG

Hey, I was doing a lunge today, and then after over extension of my leg while lunging I think i may have overstretched/pulled the abductor muscle, now when walking the inner thigh feels tender and quite sore and aches. Hello Mr john, id like to ask about your opinion on this, i injured my inner thigh/ groin area in left leg during soccer game, its quite normal to get injured in football, so i thought its just another mild injuy, it has been like 4 months now since the injury, if feel kind of stiffness all the time and discomfort / mild bearable pain when i squeeze my thigh inwards in standing position for last 2 months it was the case, until yesterday i was pushing something with my injured leg, i heared couple of snaps sound and today i feel a more relief , still some small pain and discomfort when squeeze it, but less compared with before the snaps sounds

If you squeezed both legs together then it sounds like the joint at the front called the pubic symphysis might have released and this might have helped realign the position so hopefully it will start to feel better. If not then see someone like me to assess your hip joint as that could also be involved. Good luck, regards JG

thank you mr john for your prompt response, yesterday i visited a physiotherapist to diagnose this problem i described earlier, all the tests done for muscle strain in the groin, no reaction to it, it was normal, and after the incident, I mentioned earlier,its getting better, no stiffness anymore , just still a very dull mild reaction if i squeeze inwards, but by far less than before, id like to ask can i engage in sports again ? like to do gym or football gradually is it safe at this moment? i don't want to get it again, last 6-7 months was mental pain with this situation

My groind and abductor mucel is injured while playing football, seems I did not worm up enough and my abductor was little strained before couple of days ... I kicked the ball strongly I heard pop sound and paing in the lower abdominal and abductor I ice it very well first 4 days I took some anti-inflammation and I went 6 times doing therapy in hospital. It's almost 1 month a little bit better but still can't run fast but whenever I Do cracking sound comes still pain with some movments in lower abdominal and abductor. Please advice !!

Hello! I need desperate help, here. So I have spent three months stretching before being able to do the splits. I felt very achieved and proud of myself! I was able to do the splits numerous times that day and the day after, but after that, that's when it things started getting bad. I tried doing it again, but my inner thigh, (near the private areas, to be exact), had a sharp pain. I still continued doing stretches but lightly. I Decided to take a break for four days, and today I had just started stretching even more lightly again. Now my inner thigh makes a sound similar to when you run your finger or something again leather or hard rubber, except quieter, and an occasional popping sound. I massaged it and it is getting only only a little better. I am afraid I will hurt myself if I keep pushinguself to stretch and that I will never be able to do the splits again, after three months of hard work. Did I push myself too hard? Should I see someone? Should I still continue to massage and lightly stretch? Please respond! Thanks :)

Hi, its hard to say what you have done without looking at you. I presume you haven't torn anything as you would be in a lot of pain and you would have seen bruising etc. The clicking might be a tendon or ligament flicking over a structure but if its painful I would try and forget about it. Massage might help and if no better go over next 2 weeks go and see someone like me.....hope that helps....

@@l-am4606 I’m the same. I’ve had it for probably 5 years ongoing now. It has probably come through (I play football) kicking the ball hard all the time, pinging the ball and crossing it without warming up. I’m not even sure myself what the problem is but the video points in the spots/ areas that I feel the pain. I can only feel the pain when I tense that muscle and I haven’t even been able to find anyone that can help.

Hi John, I play Ice Hockey and have had groin problems for 1 year now. It will be sore just from walking around, other days it is fine. I have doscomfort in the upper 1/3 of the groin. Should i be focusing on stretching and strengthening, or just stretching? Does my core strength effect at all my prolonged injury? My hips/hip flexors are also very tight and I have a feeling it all pulls on each other. Any suggestions or recommendations help a lot. I will soon be seeing my university's athletic trainer a few times a week to get help. Thank you.

I would see someone like me as if it has been there for over the year then it could be a labral tear / impingement (FAI) within the hip joint and the adductor muscle is the source of the referral rather than a local problem with the muscle. Good luck, JG

Hi John I need help!! I have been playing both rugby and soccer intensively and hurt my abductor but had to keep playing for the playoffs. Iv had this pain for 2 months now... its really hurting when I put my hand in between my legs and I try to close them or when Im simply running, I need to get back well as I'm starting university rugby in 2 weeks!! The tear wont cause a problem after that long - the pain might be from a referral site like the hip joint, so I would get your therapist to check the hip etc, regards JG

What is the proper medical name of a doctor who could help diagnosis of this pain here in the States? Sports medicine? I had this off and on for 1 1/2 yrs. I had XRay which was normal. PA said it could be a muscle pull. Another said its the same thing as my knee. I am 74 otherwise in pretty good health. I have ostoarithritis in my left knee and this groin pain is in my right groin. When I get in and out of cars it's painful and up from siting. Are there any pain shots available. Thank you.

Sounds like it is a problem with the hip joint and a MRI or an MRA is the better option to confirm or deny and pathology within the hip, an Osteopath could help. regards JG

Hi, if you have a 'lump' now in the middle of the thigh then you might have ruptured the rectus femoris muscle...on a positive, if you have then it will ease off but might take a little longer than you anticipate....good luck, regards JG

I have internal snapping hip severely since 21 it disabled me. I have severe pain in inner thigh, ischial tuberosity and a huge swollen greater trochanter 18 years. I got tired of going dr to dr and getting nowhere. So I tried to cope for many years with pain meds. But the pain was drilling on me and I can’t take it anymore. Most say internal snapping hip causes pain on side of leg which I get sometimes. But most all of th pain is inner thigh, ischial tuberosity and the most pain is greater trochanter what could be happening.

Sounds like a problem directly within the hip joint look for a Labral tear or some form of impingement (FAI) so I would pursue a MRA Scan which is like a MRI but with a contrast dye and the 'A' is for the Arthrogram. Good luck, regards JG

John Gibbons Thank you for reply I’ve had many MRI’s and CT showing nothing. Recently a surgeron ordered an MRA hope it shows something. He said sometimes diagnostics don’t show problems actually 60% are negative when in fact positive. My left buttock and IT band feels so tight like a tight band is around it so painful and drives me mad. My greater trochanter is huge and burns like fire. My inner hip snaps I try to prevent it as much as possible and my ischial hurts a lot and also stays swollen. I’m hoping this new surgeon with give me a trochanter bursectomy, IT band release and somehow fix what’s snapping in inner hip. 🙏🏼

Hi JohnI have had a groin/adductor strain for 8 months now, I have seen 4 different physiotherapists & £ 2400 lighter. I am at the same point as I was in the first place. The discomfort in my deep groin & the soreness & tightness in my adductors does subside after a few days but as soon as I try a run, it flares up again. Any suggestions ?Thanks

Hi Malcolm, thanks for the message and it sounds like the problem might be coming from your hip joint and is referring to the adductors and groin. I would get someone more experienced like me to check the hip joint and to make sure there is no acetabular labral tear or a Femoral acetabular impingement (FAI) as these will give you similar symptoms to what you are are experiencing. I was running with a parachute on my back and I instantly felt a pop in my groin area and got the floor. I practiced on it for two months but it hurt to walk and lift my leg at all. I do not know how I managed to practice that long on it but sometimes I feel a lot of pops in my leg

@@tajhalexander6040 i literally just rested it. you can’t really ice it cause it’s in such an awkward spot but apply some ice to it if you can. but I would stay off of it for two weeks because now whenever i lift my leg and put it back down it pops

Please advise which tape is it as am not familiar in India about it. It’s a crepe bandage they pin up . This tape can be a remedy to thigh muscle pull women tend to have in case they slip . Please advise home treatment to be able to attend to everyday living and avoid stiffness .

Tore my adductor a year ago and it lead to diastasis recti which eventually got worse now my rectus abdominis protrudes on one side giving me poor core stability and pain in my abs (upper and lower). Pt has made it slightly better but it never goes away. One day it feels ok the next its like the muscle wont work and my abs will lump out again to the point it hurts to bend over. Im 25 and im starting to think that ill walk with a limp forever…

Bhagya bro i’m having the same thing, don’t play soccer anymore until the pain goes away, take a time or it will be a bigger problem!

How long does it take to recover broken thigh bone frent and back.

If its a fracture of the femur and you have had it stabilised with fixation pins etc then in reality will take about a year if not longer to truly recover. Bones heal around 6-8 weeks but that all depends on the type of bone, its location as some bones take longer because of the blood supply (scaphoid, distal tibia), type of fracture, age and gender of patient as well as nutritional considerations.
