So true! For the past few years I've had a old agitator washer which didn't hell of a job but then it died. The washer that the apartment complex just gave me the water never gets hot and the water in the rinse is never clear and the clothes are in there for over an hour.

The hack is to open the top part that gives you access to all the wires, The cover snaps off. Inside on a samsung you will find a blue Cap the diameter of a Tide laundry detergent, these totalitarians put the cap there so you do not have access to a plastic screw it uses a Phillips "X" cross. I took the cap off with a drill and drilled a hole in it for easier access. This screw is the one that you turn to give you more water. It's one of those things that you're going to have to play with it to determine how much water you want but these totalitarian companies decide they don't want the peasants using water. My machine now washes dirt out of jeans perfectly. You can't wash without water. I recommend everyone does this real hack.

My husband also does construction. Even HE can tell the difference! It also takes such a long time with cycles compared to the older ones. I didn’t want another inefficient (ie) but staying with mother in law while looking for another house. She has one and also a dishwasher that takes HOURS! I just don’t see any efficiency, it’s ridiculous! Does anyone else have problem with the washer being off balance at rinse cycle? _#1 - Try dunking your items in water (first) before adding to machine. #2 - Once soaked items are placed inside take 1 gallon of water (an empty milk jug) and slowly pour over the arranged items. If you pour too fast apparently the sensor somehow knows it's water and starts the spin cycle, but slowly doesn't. _*_It's absurd we're have to try all this! I agree whole heartedly, I bought a stacking GE washing machine from Loews not knowing about the "efficiency" BS with the washer. It wasn't 'til I had my first load that I realized that there was a problem. I went back to the store and the Sales Rep acknowledged that many buyers also complained about the lack of water. He recommended that I place my load setting to "Heavy" regardless of the amount of clothing. This works to a certain extent but now I us more water than necessary. Now I place harmless (foam balls) in the tub with each load to minimize some water waste which occurs. My only drawback to this solution is that I have to minimize the use of warm and/or hot water since this would contribute to higher energy bills.

So I accidentally bought a Whirlpool HE machine about 5 years ago thru Home Depot, and decided that the heck, I'll give it a try. After having it about 3 months I contacted Whirlpool and told them it was a total piece of ____t, and I wanted to somehow exchange it for a 'real' washing machine. They said no. "No no no." I had also bought a 4-year warranty and it's now expired. Yay! Can't wait til this thing needs a repair. I won't put $1 into this crappy washer. So, a year ago I needed to buy my daughter a washer. I found her a new GE with an agitator that you could still set the water level on. She gets clean clothes, I get semi-clean clothes. Sick of it. Whirlpool should have helped me. Still could.

That's a good idea. You waste water but your clothes are clean & not destroyed. 🤷 I remember my mom having her old washer repaired over & over when I was in HS & College (early 2000s) because she knew the newer washers on the market were all supposed to be water saving & energy efficient, while sure there are benefits there no doubt, having less water in a machine during a wash cycle means soap isn't thoroughly moved through the clothes to clean them & they are beat up by the washer & take more damage. She was trying to avoid those at all costs. When she was finally forced to get a new machine that thing drive her crazy; the 1 she has now does too but she's just used to it at this point. I came over to do laundry sometimes instead of going to laundry mats or my apartment shared area just because I like my clothes lol. My mom would pause the machine at the end of the fill , get pitchers of water & add 3-5 of them till she got the water level where she wanted it. She still does this sometimes but the machine she has now does full a little bit better. I just shopped for a new washer w/ my fiance. We choose a Whirlpool & I do like it. It does a good job of sensing, but I would still like more water in the drum especially w/ his work clothes, towels, sheets, etc..... I mean let's be real, everything! Lol I did see a few machines w/ an add water button & maybe those would do it? We liked this 1 because of the removal agitator & large capacity. I'm going to try what he suggested & see how it goes w/ loads that especially need more H²O.

Thank you for these tips! I started using the garden hose the soak everything in the laundry basket before adding it to the machine, and that absolutely helped with the water levels. I have both pre-soak and 2 rinses on, so the whole thing ends up using more water than if it was just a regular machine that worked normally. I also ordered "agitator balls" online -- with no agitator in the machine they are relying on the clothes tumbling around to get them clean and it isn't enough. I hope these help!

I also have to use vinegar in the fabric softener compartment and select "fabric Softener" after washing I must make sure they smell clean before putting them in the dryer. I sometimes have to wash the clothes more than once even after doing all the hacks. As an added bonus the washer ties the clothes in knots. So basically it uses MORE water and electricity, takes more time, than my old low efficiency model.

The sheets did not look or smell clean and seemed just damp at the end of the spin. After reading these helpful comments I am in the loop with the new machine models which are reported as lousy. I will look for the bulk cycle next time to see if I can get more water in the machine. But really!!!!!!!!!! Life is not hard enough - now we can't clean our clothes ! After much consideration, I've concluded that top-load HE washing machines SUCK for just this reason alone. Rather than listening to my input to "Deep fill" the f'ing basin with water, it instead thinks it is smarter than me by measuring the weight of my clothes in the method the guy in the video describes. In the mean time, I can HEAR the agitator BREAKING as it tries to agitate damp clothes with insufficient water. Another example of water saving products screwing things up.

This is a great tip, whenever I do my sheets/blankets I put my GE on Bulky items with deep rinse. The deep fill is a sham, it adds maybe half a gallon extra. Whenever I have to do a load of big items I add 4-6 gallons of water from jugs after the unit finishes filling the little amount it does, that's the only way I've found to get everything wet. Time consuming and reminds me of how great we had it with old machines.

Ive even tried putting in a 5 gallon pail full of water on top of the load to add a lot more weight and it still doesnt change. In the end I wound up filling 4-5 five gallon buckets with water, one of them gets the detergent, start the machine and as soon as it starts filling with water I put it on "pause" and I dump in the buckets of water with the detergent one last and away it goes. Seems once it starts filling with water it no longer has a sensing cycle. You are sure that the water cut-off isn't in the hinge of the lid, right? That it is, in fact, sthe locking mechanism (on the front lip on this model). Thanks for your suggestion. Would it not be better to add a few clothes to add weight and then start the calibration function?

Great info. My only suggestion is that instead of filling the washer then draining it, which is a huge waste of water, fill the machine with the dry load, lets say towels, and I pour about 4 gallons of water over the dry clothes. A gallon of water weights about 8.3 pounds, so adding four gallons that's an additional 33 pounds of weight the machine will sense in the machine.

That's what I do too. Add extra water before it agitates. Cleans my clothes a LOT better. What a waste of time. I want my old washer back.

Laurent Jacquemin Someone told me to use the bulky sheets option. It works! Gills the washer all the way up! WTH? Did the screw up the switch? Why does it fill deep on the bulky sheets option but not on deep wash?

If your front loader has a clean washer cycle like the Kenmore I have, you can select that option and use a hose or a old detergent bottle to fill the machine to your liking. If won't throw a code like the other cycles have to dump excess water.

How do You use a detergent bottle to fill up machine can You Please explain

@@jesussaves2246 take a big empty detergent bottle, and fill it with water. Then pour it into the part where water fill the machine. Nowadays I just soak the clothes before I put them in the machine. Works great.
