I have the exact same amp with the exact same symptoms and decided to search for amp repair videos on KZfaq. I was completely blown away when this was the first video that come up in the results list! Thanks Dave for taking the time to make the video, I think it will save me a lot of time troubleshooting the amp.

you got lucky steve... my crate GLX212 combo is messed up & after 10 min. or so, the sound just fades away, like somebody was slowly turning down the volume knob. i turn off the amp fir about 15 min. and it comes on & plays normally , for about 15 min. ive look & watched every vid on you tube & i only find reviews & closely similar amps.

I was asked to try to fix a dropped BX1800 that had no output. I found the problem, and tried, for six weeks, to get a replacement board thru the "Music Tribe" support outlet that's supposed to support Behringer equipment. Finally I got the part, only to find out it was the wrong part. It took another three weeks to get an RMA and ship it back. Strange--I was given the shipping label and RMA, then was asked to Track the part and Call THEM when the part arrived at their Las Vegas shop. Altogether, a useful lesson on the quality of support to expect for Behringer products that made a me decide to avoid, and not recommend, Behringer products.

All good stuff.. Finding one fault doesn't mean it's all that was wrong, so your strip-down and check of the amp was justified in my opinion..
@ab9957
@ab9957 3 жыл бұрын
Not in this case but when you've found a blown fuse, you've not found the problem yet. Those big electrolytic capacitors in the power supply do not usually short, they dry up and go open. And the fan removes heat from the heat sink area by pushing it out of the cabinet. They are DC and you should measure some resistance across them.

Behringer is not made for eternity!The small potis on this amps are so cheap and garbadge. Don't try to repair this one, because you destroy more while trying to work with a soldering heater. You'll damadge more than repair it! Mostly the potis cracks or speaker/cable are defect! Without any additional preamp/compressor or effect boards they sound so quiet and fully ugly! This Vid helps very good!!

I bought a behringer 5 watt infinitum head. Registered it for warranty before it actually shipped. Never heard from them. Never could get through on the phone. Well it just quit in the middle of a session sitting on standby. No one could troubleshoot it, at least at the time no schematics on the net. Was a great sounding little amp but I will never buy from them or other bargain based outfits again. Someday I'll get around to building a point to point out of it but I'd rather be just playing.

It is Open not blown....the voice coil determines the Ohms of the coil within the super structure (magnet), sometimes variations of reading because the burn may not be severe. Typically a quick check is push the cone into the structure, and listen for a scratch or no movement at all...

Check your connections for the reverb and clean out the switches and pots. Hopefully, the reverb tank isn’t shot. Check out my channel and look through the service videos. I did videos for a Peavey amp, for a Crate amp, and for a Univox amp. I think those will show how I service solid state amps. Good luck!

Hi, I’m an. Amp tech in SoCal. I was wondering why you didn’t just plug in a new speaker before you tore the amp down?. That was step # 3
@davetriestofixstuff4744
@davetriestofixstuff4744 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. Good question. Three reasons: First, the fan wasn’t coming on and I was under the incorrect assumption that it was supposed to start spinning upon initial power up. I was looking for the cause of that too. Second, the video wasn’t just about showing how to find out what was wrong with this particular amp, it was about showing steps you can take to narrow down the possible issues. There were a couple of steps I performed in this video that I would have skipped if I hadn’t been making the video. But simply unplugging a speaker, testing continuity, then changing a cable doesn’t make for an interesting video. Third, all the stuff I work on in my videos is mine and part of the process for me is cleaning up the amp. So although I didn’t show it (I do on other videos) the amp was torn down as part of the cleaning I did. Thanks.

Bought one working for 60. Speaker jack broke so my dumb ass goes to replace the jack, then one very tiny curl of smoke it's toast. I have built several tube amps from scratch and feel very confident in my ability, my advice if it works leave it alone. Don't ruin it like I did.

I can’t say for sure without having it in my bench, but I would say it sounds like the main electrolytic capacitors on the power rail need to be replaced. Sometimes you can tell if they’ve gone bad by checking them for bulging and/or leaking on the board.

That's a pretty broad question without knowing anymore about it. If it's the distortion built in on your amp, try cleaning all the buttons, pots, jacks, etc... using deoxit or something similar. Good luck!

My Marshall gfx 30 stopped powering on It has a rocker switch Where should I start to figure problem out?
@davetriestofixstuff4744
@davetriestofixstuff4744 3 ай бұрын
Start with the simplest first. 1. Is the fuse blown? 2. Is the switch getting power? 3. Is the transformer getting power? 4. Is the transformer putting out power? See if all of those things are doing what they’re supposed to. Zero power would normally mean that it’s one of those. Good luck!

@davetriestofixstuff4744

Cricket the fuse didn’t blow. It was a bad plug end on the speaker cable. My bass player has actually been using this amp at rehearsals for over a year without any issues since. Not the greatest bass tone in the world, but I’ve been impressed with its ability to keep up during a rehearsal with a full band.
